How often do you submit to local search/citation sites?
-
I recently received a Network Solutions spam/offer email regarding their internet marketing packages. One of the "benefits" they cited was that they submit your information to local search/citation sites once a month, to keep it up-to-date.
I don't know about you guys, but my clients' information isn't changing on a frequent basis. I remember when it used to be a tactic to submit regularly to the same citation sites, but that seems like overkill now. Does anyone still do this, or is NS just trying to make their product sound good? Do we need to update citation sites frequently, or is it enough to update when there are actual changes to make?

Good to know, Jess! I'll mark your question as 'answered'. Thanks to everyone on this thread for contributing such helpful answers.

Definitely helpful answers!
Everyone pretty much confirmed my suspicions. We get a plethora of Network Solutions "offers," and my boss likes to investigate them to see if they're really offering anything valuable. More often than not, they aren't.

Hi Again, Jess,
Do you feel you've received a helpful answer here, or do you have other questions about this? I want to be sure you've been helped!

One of the "benefits" they cited was that they submit your information to local search/citation sites once a month, to keep it up-to-date.
I was on the phone with them recently and they started offering this... and I am thinking... "OMG... Please! NOOO! Then they told me the price and I was relieved that they were not going to do it for my site.
Does anyone still do this, or is NS just trying to make their product sound good?
Now I wonder how much they know about domain registration and hosting.

Hey
This seems like a 'feature' and as it goes I would not want to submit my details in a highly automated fashion like this as duplicate listings on major citation sites can cause problems (duplicate automated Google+ listings) etc.
Audit the listings every so often but there is no need to update the basic Name, Address and Phone number if nothing has changed.
Hope that helps

Hi Jess,
Good question! You should only need to actually submit a local business listing to a directory or index once. You do not need to resubmit it. That being said, some platforms offer the ability to update your listing on a regular basis with little posts (like a fully merged G+ Local page), giving the listings a social aspect somewhat like a blog or Twitter account. Additionally, some Local SEOs are fans of 'poking' the Google+ Local listing, which basically means logging in, not changing any of the information in the dashboard and hitting submit. There has been some evidence that this can help clear up certain buggy issues.
While I have no idea what the meaning is of the Network Solutions offer you received. I'd be tempted to call them to see what it is that they are actually offering. If it's automated resubmission of all your listings, this doesn't sound very valuable to me. It's not something I would recommend.

We've submitted our sites to the reputable local directories and update only as needed.
Looking through our backlink profile I've found our store on ooodles of local directories I have nothing to do with and never signed up for.
I'd direct the money elsewhere.

Why rich snippets have disappeared in Google search results ?
Hello, Few weeks ago, we have implemented a snippets strategy in order to increase our ranking for our blog posts. That was successful and our results were showing up in Google. But today, every single snippet has disappeared. We go back to a simple search result, without snippets for us or for our competitors. It seems that Google has delete rich snippet for specific keywords because for the generic keywords (for exemple "inbound marketing definition" in our case), there is still a snippet result. Do you know if Google has changed snippets parameters for keywords with low search volume ? Thank you !

Does my website need a search bar?
We're redesigning our agency website and during development we noticed our current design doesn't feature a mock up for a search bar. It was a simple oversight, but it got me thinking how valuable it really is. I noticed the Moz blog doesn't have a search bar (unless I'm blind) and was wondering who else has made the decision to get rid of it. We have a blog of almost 400 posts over the course of three years, unsure if that sways the decision in either direction. Is it better to just focus on good SEO instead of relying on a search bar nowadays? Opinions appreciated!

How Popular is Google Image Search?
Are there any stats on the volume of searches through Google's Image Search? My assumption is that more users are turning to image search to shop but I haven't found any supporting data. I know that click-throughs to site have fallen after Google's recent changes to the UI but still just interested in initial search volume.

What are realistic goals for local serch results?
I have a brand new domain, 2 months old, and am just finishing design. What are realistic goals for the 1rst year in local search results? My competition appears to be the local directories. Manta, yellowpages, angieslist, BBB and so on. Is it realistic to expect to eventually outrank them for the local search terms? (City Service Keyword) If so, what is a realistic time frame for someone putting in 10 to 15 hours a week on SEO, Including content creation. This was the humbling report I just ran. Looks like my choices are to beat them or pay them excessive amounts of money. http://pro.seomoz.org/tools/keyword-difficulty/results.html?commit=Run+Report&date=2013-02-19&engine_id=96&keywords=Lakeville+snow+plowing&utf8=✓

Using the same Google Analytics account for two sites
I have a friend who is concerned that his competition is trying something funny to show high traffic. The competition has two sites using the same GA tracking code. What impact would this have on his actual traffic. One site has high traffic 7500 daily the other site has 150 daily but gaining momentum
