      Is this an RSS feed link? How was this page generated?

      http://blog.moregoodfoundation.org/category/technology/feed

      What causes it to show up as a backlink in open site explorer? And how would you go about removing these links? Lots of questions there 🙂

      Thank you.

        Thanks Paul, I'm more curious about how and why these links are created.

          Unless you have a very specific reason for not wanting the feeds available, there's really no reason worry about removing them, moregood. They're not visible to normal visitors unless they use their own feed reader software to subscribe to the feed. If you're concerned about the full content of each post being available, you can go to Settings -> Read in your Dashboard and select Summary instead of Full Text.

          If you do want to remove the RSS Feed links from the page entirely, you'll need to add some code to your theme's functions.php file. To do this properly, you'll need to create a child theme and edit the functions file there - otherwise each time you upgrade your customisation will be overwritten and you'll have to redo it.

          The code to add in order to remove the additional RSS feeds is:

          remove_action( 'wp_head', 'feed_links', 2 );
          remove_action( 'wp_head', 'feed_links_extra', 3 );

          Note thought that this just removes the links for the page code, it doesn't stop WordPress from generating the feeds. Doing that requires more hacking than I'm prepared to cover here.

          Bottom line: there's no reason to worry about these extra feeds or their incoming links. They may be useful to a few users, and for the others, they'll be "out-of-site, out-of-mind". I'd consider just about any other SEO opportunities to be higher priority than worrying about these.

          Hope that helps?

          Paul

            That feed url link is coming from my own site but I'm not sure how it was created and/or how to delete them. Any ideas?

              Yup, that's an RSS feed, moregood. By default, WordPress creates a number of specialised feeds in addition to the basic site feed. These include feeds for Categories, Post Comments, Tags, and Authors.

              I'm not clear from your question if this feed lives on your own site or someone elses? If it's on someone else's site, its a perfectly legitimate backlink. Some sites choose to allow their feeds to be indexed by search engines to aid in indexing of their pages. There's no reason or need to remove these links from your backlinks unless they're from a spammy site. This link is just showing that one of the posts in that category feed has a link to your site. You'll probably also have a backlink showing from a regular page on that site as well.

              Does that answer your question? Or is that link coming from your won site and you're wondering how to remove those special RSS feeds from your own site?

              Paul

                Weird, I can't figure it out either which is why I'm here 🙂

                I'm using Open Site Explorer for the backlink report.

                  A feed is generated from the content of a your website. As for why this link is showing, when it isn't there is a little odd. Saying that, I did have a similar problem about 2 years ago and can't think what it was for the life of me!

                  What were you using to generate the backlink report?

                    Okay thanks, what about a feed url like this one? http://ldsimages.com/category/uncategorized/feed. Open site explorer is showing it as linking to this site; mormonbeliefs.org, with [No Anchor Text]. How is that link being generated?

                      Yes, it is an RSS feed and all blogs have them (im sure they can be disabled) - normally at the same address /feed or /rss.

                      I am guessing that you have links in your articles back to your primary site? As the blog is on a subdomain, it will be seen as a separate site and links back will be seen... If I understood correctly 🙂

                        We are a UK business and if we have links mostly from US based blogs and websites does this penalise us.  The links are from relevant websites and topics.  Should we be focusing on .co.uk sites

                        Value of Links? What is each link worth?

                        Morning Everyone, I just had this thought and wondered what everyone's opinions were in terms of link value in monetary terms. We'll assume for the purposes of this that the links come from contextually relevant sites and that the sites in question have got the Moz DA from being high quality and have a good quality incoming link profile. Its a bit of a theoretical question, but i guess imagine if the only way you could get links was to pay for them, what would they be worth to you. This is link value for SEO purposes, they will have in addition value from traffic from good sites, that no doubt varies wildly depending on topic. I assume everyone also agrees on: The first link from a domain is the most valuable High DA sites are worth  more than low ones. So could anyone who has an opinion on the link value suggest a monetary value for links. Its really just using a monetary amount to see how best to target my time.  Here is my example of what might be expected, but I am hoping people with more knowledge will perhaps correct it. DA Rating    First Link  2nd-5th Link  5th-10th Link 10Plus Links 5               $5         $2            $1              $0 15               $7         $3            $2              $1 25              $25         $10            $5              $2 35               $45         $20            $7              $3 45               $65         $30            $11            $4 55               $95        $45            $19             $5 65               $200        $100            $45              $6 75               $350         $120            $65              $9 85               $700         $240            $95              $15 95               $1100         $450            $200              $30

                        If I disavow bad links on "disavow link webmaster" will they still show up on my moz reports?

                        We recently found out we have a lot of bad links linking back to our website from spam sites, I disavowed them through the google disavow link webmaster. On my moz report it still shows the links, is that normal?

                        Footer Links And Link Juice

                        I'm starting to learn about link juice and notice in GWMT > Traffic > Internal Links, that the list is in this order by the links counted on each page. Some are in the footer and some are in the header, with some being more important than others commercially i.e. /register /privacy /terms /search /sitemap /disclaimer /blog /register So I am wondering if I should add a 'no-follow' attribute to the footer links i.e. privacy, terms, disclaimer and leave the others as they are? Does this help retain link juice on each page where the links appear? Or am I missing the point all together? This is my website: http://goo.gl/CN0e5

                        Does the ratio of external nofollow links to external "do follow" links matter in terms of SERPs ranking?

                        My site has an external link nofollow:dofollow ratio of approximately 1:1 That is, there are about as many nofollow external links as "do follow" external links. I have an impression that the ratio of no-follow to "do follow" links is a factor in the way that our website shows up in SERPs. I have the impression from reading a variety of sources, and from looking at Seomoz, that calculate "trust" factors as if they mattered (in SERPs), that seem to value a relatively low nofollow:dofollow ratio. Am I correct about that? Thanks,
                        Tim PS - I don't know whether or not this matters, but our website is at: www.trustworthycare.com - Tim

                        Do links within imbeddable widgets carry link juice?

                        I'm dipping my toes into infographic design. On of my desired outcomes is to gain links by having other sites embed my graphic. I'm considering using Tableau's interactive data visualization software to do so; thus creating a widget, embedding it on my blog, and including the embed code for others to post. Is it possible to include a juice passing link in such an infographic?  I know its possible to include links inside the tableau graphic but not sure if they have straight SEO value. If these links are not juice passing would it be better to go with a simple image link that passes value?
