PPC for Luxury Goods Website

Hi Mozzers,
I am starting a PPC campaign for a website that sells high-end products. The search volume for the generics is very high but I think the conversion rate on those will be quite low given the price of the products. Does anyone have any experience in doing PPC for high-end retailers and what type of keyword I should be bidding on?

Hi Karl
If it is a brand new PPC account with no or very little history I would advise you to start bidding on brand terms only to build up your quality score. Use exact and phrase match only. Once your CPC has come down a bit do your generic keywords research and try to find keywords that are a) relevant to your brand and its target audience, b) have decent search volume and c) affordable d)are present on the landing page of your PPC campaign. You might have to select / create several landing pages for your PPC tailed for individual PPC ad groups each with its set of narrowly themed keywords.
Keywords' components like "luxury", high-end", "quality", "designer" etc may be relevant, but it depends on your product category and brand. You can also right away add certain keywords to negative list e.g. second-hand, cheap, ebay, gumtree, amazon etc, basically all the keywords that are opposite of luxury and premium.

again I would say trial and error, you might find though that words like that have a high CPC so might cost you a bit.
I would also recommend maybe extending the cookie window if they are high end products as people might not be able to impulse buy and may take several pay days to save up for the items. By doing this you may get to find out which keywords trigger the initial customer interaction.

So bid on the generics and see what we get from it? Would you bother bidding on terms like "luxury..." and "designer..." as well?

I've found from my experience is that no two campaigns are identical. I would suggest trial and error and things that don't work - use negative keywords to stop the words that don't work appearing.
Go in with a lower CPC while your testing so your not wasting as much money and as soon as you have the stat's start to increase your CPC.

Correlating Form Submissions to PPC vs Organic - COA
I currently don't use a landing page model. From either Adwords or Organic you reach our site, find the event product that appeals to you, and then fill out the form. I need a way to determine which of those form submissions came from Organic Vs Paid so I can calculate my cost of customer acquisition (COA). Via Google Analytics I can see that X amount of Organic were submitted and X of Paid. If I get 5 submissions in one day there isn't an efficient way to correlate the form submissions to the medium. Any suggestions on an attribute method that would help me sort out COA?

PPC Adwords Trademark Protection
Hi Wheres the form for filling in/registering your brand with Google for trademark protection in adwords ? I can only find an infringement/complaint form, which given no one currently infringing i imagine will be pointless filling it in. Does sitewide SEO affect PPC Quality Score?
When evaluating a PPC landing page for Quality Score, does Google evaluate the other pages that the landing page is linked to? For example, if we have a well optimized page on the site for "Widgets", can it outscore a well optimized PPC landing page that is isolated in a "disallow" directory with no links into or out of the page? I'm not sure if I am making myself clear...

Is ppc becoming more influential than organic search with consumers?
Simply put, are consumers clicking on ppc in lieu of organic search. In the past, people use to say that ppc accounted between 30-40% of traffic with organic accounting for majority of activity. My question is whether those numbers have changed, and if so, where are we now? A friend in Boston in does SEO, remarked that many of her 'sophisticated' friends didn't know the difference between ppc and organic. Seems odd, but with the move to place ppc results from the right hand sidebar to the top left hand column, certainly gives it more presence and makes the separation between ppc vs. organic less distinct. I certainly understand the value of doing both, but depending on the answer, it begs the question... is the expense of moving up a position or two in organic worth the effort and monies, if ppc is becoming the dominant raffic tdriver? Anybody have any recent statistics on ppc vs. organic? Thanks.

The SEOmoz PRO tool shows how keywords rank in the organic part of the SERPs. Does anyone know if there is another tool out there that shows the same thing for ranking in the ads section of the SERPs?
