What is Semalt?
-
I have noticed Semalt appearing on my traffic stats for several clients. I have had a look online and there doesn't seem to be a great deal of information. Is this ssomethingto be worried about. Apart from anything else, it is affecting my data.
-
Recently I had to use them & I regret using them. Even if you do trial plan they will remove all backlinks they helped built and render somene alone.

I noticed my traffic went up fast from unknown source, should I be worried?
-
Glad I checked in here..Almost subscribed to their service. I wanted to have my website SEO done with them. But now I have to find something else. If anyone knows a good agency that is not too expensive, but also good, I would appreciate it.
-
I do not trust them if you do mistake to purchase their plan. Once you don’t have money to renew your package with them they will start removing all the backlinks they built for you one after the other till your website is empty and they will keep your bounce rate.
I have used them plenty of time and I regret using them. Even if you do trial plan and didn’t do main plan they will remove all what they built.

I have a new website (https://sernukers.com/) and there is only 1 article published. I saw some traffic from different countries for last few days. Yesterday I checked my email I find an email from semalt. Should I reply to them or ignore ??

Here is more info on them: http://www.slideshare.net/MyLocalBusinessOnline/how-to-block-semalt-crawler-and-clean-up-your-analytics

Great. Let us know what happens.

On this page of the Semalt site, they offer a form to remove sites from their crawler list, promising removal within 30 minutes.

I just removed one of our sites as a test - because they're showing up as our #2 referrer. I don't recommend using the above link and know no more than the page says - just sharing info.
-
I added code to block them from accessing the site. Is my assumption correct? That they essentially click on the site, then becuase they don't actually view the site, it causes the bounce rates to skyrocket? That's what the GA shows. So, won't google at some point, downgrade the site in the SERPS due to high bounce rates? Or am I not understanding that correctly?
-
Hello Buck,
How would you block them? You mean removing their data from GA? Or truly blocking their bots?
-
I just noticed this in my GA. They are dramatically increasing my bounce rates!!! Blocking now!
-
Also seeing hits from these guys. 9 so far today from Viet Nam, Brazil, India, Turkey and Colombia.
Very annoying. I sent a note to Alex@Semalt.com requesting they remove me from their crawlers. I guess the consensus is they are harmless from what I have read on the web, but it messes up your analytics.
-
I wouldn't worry about them. In theory they track your serp placement but they do a bad job of it. I suspect the get a link and then people pay for a trail to see what its all about and thus they make money.
It shouldn't be affecting your traffic in anyway. Ignore it for now and they will go away.
In short- Semalt tracks serp placement If you're worried you can look here-

Should I Report A SEO Agency to Google
Our competitor has employed the services of a spammy SEO agency that sends spammy links to our site. Though our rankings were affected we have taken the necessary steps. It is possible to send evidence to Google so that they can take down the site. I want to take this action so that other sites will not be affected by them again.

The Importance of Bold Keywords in SEO?
Hi all, Recently I came cross an RV lifestyle blog named RVing Trends. The website features high-quality contents about handy RV camping tips & guides, and in-depth RV product reviews. They seem to spend a lot of effort on the content quality. I've followed this website for a few months and can see they've been producing 3,000-5,000 word length contents regularly. One thing I notice is that they emphasize the main keyword as bold in almost the posts. You can check 1 sample here about RV mattress reviews. Just want to ask for your opinions about the efficiency of this technique and is the keyword density still important for blog content to rank well in Google. Thanks!

Is buying traffic from Internet traffic club harmful to rankings
From looking at one of our clients’ GA stats, we’ve discovered that they have signed up with a site called Internet Traffic Club (or they have asked someone to do it on their behalf). Their hits on one day went from a fairly standard low number to a few thousand. The hits came from cities all over the world, yet this client is a local UK solicitor offering a local town service. We feel doing this - if they do it regularly - would be harmful rather than beneficial to their rankings. Has anyone here any experience of using these traffic buying services and how Google views these hits? Of course it is also nonsensical to pay to buy traffic from Nigeria if you’re a local solicitor, but I want to explain to them the evidence behind the harmful effect it could have on their rankings.

Malicious backlinks
Hello to everyone! We have identified some weird links that are pointing to our site and we are not sure if they are considered malicious backlinks and we should disavow them. Most of them are directories of websites, the most common one is called "Top million domains by alexa" (you can see an example here: www.besafe.in/domain-list-237). Have you ever seen these kind of links before? Are they causing harm to our site? Thank you so much!

I redesigned a clients website and there is a pretty massive drop in traffic - despite my efforts to significantly improve SEO.
Hi there, I redesigned a clients website that was very old fashioned and was not responsive. I implemented 301 redirects, kept the content pretty similar, website linking structure very similar - the only things i changed was making the website responsive, improved title tags, added a bit more information, improved the footer and h1 tags etc.. however although clicks are fairly similar search impressions have dropped about 60% on average over the past week. The old site had some keywords linking to pages with no new content so i removed those as seemed like black hat seo tricks and also there was a huge list of "locations we deliver to" on the homepage followed by around 500 citys/towns I removed this. Could this be the cause for the drop? as i assumed those would do more harm than good? Fairly new with SEO as you can probably tell. Looking for advice on what may be the cause and what steps I should take now. Thanks for reading! duGeW

Link Building vs. Straight Earning Links Discussion
Hello, I'd like to start a discussion on link building outreach techniques vs. just building a good website with good 10X content. I don't like to receive unsolicited emails in my inbox, so why should the people in my industry? Also, I've seen plenty of evidence of 10X content soaring without link building outreach. But link building isn't dead of course, so can you tell me your personal experiences either way and the ethics of what you do? I especially want to hear if you've had luck with just building good websites and being successful based on the content itself, but an open discussion of either side is welcome. Leaning towards just building good websites and letting the Google algo do it's thing. Would love to hear your experiences either way. Thanks.
