Unique page for each product variant? (Not eCommerce)

Hi Mozzers,
Just looking for a little advice before I launch into a huge workload. We have landing pages for vehicle manufacturers. We then have anchor links in that page for each vehicle model that manufacturer has, with further info on the model further down the page.
So we're toying with the idea of launching a unique page for each of the models rather than having them all on the same landing page.
This will take an age and a minute but if it is worth it, we want to do it. Do you guys see a benefit to having unique pages for each model? Do you think it would attract more natural links? Would this help or hinder the manufacturer landing page in general? Should the manufacturer landing page be noindex so as to avoid duplicate content issues?
I can see a lot of work and risk, just looking for a few opinions.

Cheers for the input Nico, you're right. Variant is not the right word I just can't find the right terminology ha!
Our product is always the same it can just be applied to all models of car/van etc so this may be one of those grey areas. It's a vague question really, I think we'll just have to run a trial and see what happens over a few months.

I recently posed this question the other way around, i.e. a site had different pages (technically totally unconnected) for each product variant and it caused certain problems: https://moz.com/community/q/duplicate-content-through-product-variants
I am not sure if this 100% applies to you: I would not use "different model" and "variant" as synonyms. If they are different models, they are different, unique products and have distinct features, advantages, maybe extras etc. Variants, to me, are for example different colour, maybe the same model with different extras or similar. There might be some grey zone where different models might actually be quite like variants, differing little from each other - then I'd ask if they differ enough to say something about each and/or contrast them.
For different models I would in fact chose different pages that go deeper into details. (Think of different books from the same publisher!) For variants, having more than one page is problematic. If I had the free choice, I'd bundle all variants on a single page with dropdowns to select the variant. There is also the question if variants are sufficiently different to write unique content for each - if that is the case, it could justify separate pages. A definite benefit of those is that they can be linked directly.

Interesting point. I would like to share my points to handle it from UX and SEO perspective neatly. So, here's my understanding about your product: you have multiple product pages and their variations, say you have a product "My Product" which has 2 variations "Variation A" and "Variation B" (variation can be based on color, type etc. attributes).
Here, you can itemise these product variations and consider the following solution to handle it:

Variation pages would be available at www.example.com/my-product/variation-a and www.example.com/my-product/variation-b respectively for "Variation A" and "Variation B" of the product "My Product".

Make sure you have the canonical URL without the variation id/title set for your variation pages. For instance,
for these variation pages.

Mark one of these variations as your default product which will be available at www.example.com/my-product. For example, www.example.com/my-product will display the same content that www.example.com/my-product/variation-a will display.
This way you'll have one single URL for a product page for bots which is www.example.com/my-product and all other variation pages exist with variation identifier which will resolve customer's experience point. Also, as we're exposing only single page to bots in this case, we're neatly able to handle duplicate content penalty issue as well.
You can refer the following 2 variation URLs for the same:
- Apple iPhone 6 - Gold: http://www.flipkart.com/apple-iphone-6/p/itme8ra6fzzme5sz?pid=MOBEYHZ2VSVKHAZH
- Apple iPhone 6 - Silver: http://www.flipkart.com/apple-iphone-6/p/itme8ra6fzzme5sz?pid=MOBEYHZ2VRNZZ2J5

Safety Data Sheet PDFs are Showing Higher in Search Results than Product Pages
I have a client who just launched an updated website that has WooCommerce added to it. The website also has a page of Safety Data Sheets that are PDFs that contain information about some of the products. When we do a Google search for many of the products the Safety Data Sheets show up first in the search results instead of the product pages. Blog Page Titles - Page 1, Page 2 etc.
Hi All, I have a couple of crawl errors coming up in MOZ that I am trying to fix. They are duplicate page title issues with my blog area. For example we have a URL of www.ourwebsite.com/blog/page/1 and as we have quite a few blog posts they get put onto another page, example www.ourwebsite.com/blog/page/2 both of these urls have the same heading, title, meta description etc. I was just wondering if this was an actual SEO problem or not and if there is a way to fix it. I am using Wordpress for reference but I can't see anywhere to access the settings of these pages. Thanks

How to create site map for large site (ecommerce type) that has 1000's if not 100,000 of pages.
I know this is kind of a newbie question but I am having an amazing amount of trouble creating a sitemap for our site Bestride.com. We just did a complete redesign (look and feel, functionality, the works) and now I am trying to create a site map. Most of the generators I have used "break" after reaching some number of pages. I am at a loss as to how to create the sitemap. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

How to determine which pages are not indexed
Is there a way to determine which pages of a website are not being indexed by the search engines? I know Google Webmasters has a sitemap area where it tells you how many urls have been submitted and how many are indexed out of those submitted. However, it doesn't necessarily show which urls aren't being indexed.

Splitting Page Authority with two URLs for the same page.
Hello guys, My website is currently holding two different URLs for the same page and I am under the impression such set up is dividing my Page Authority and Link Juice. We currently have the following page with both URLs below: www.wbresearch.com/soldiertechnologyusa/home.aspx

Total Links: 128 I am under the impression that if the URLs were the same we would maximise our backlinks and therefore page authority. My Question: How can I fix this? Should I have a 301 redirect from the page "/" to the "/home.aspx" therefore passing the authority and link juice of “/” directly to “/homes.aspx”? Trying to gather thoughts and ideas on this, suggestions are much appreciated? Thanks!0 -
Is it worth setting up 301 redirects from old products to new products?
This year we are using a new supplier and they have provided us a product database of approx. 5k products. About 80% of these products were in our existing database but once we have installed the new database all the URLs will have changed. There is no quick way to match the old products with the new products so we would have to manually match all 5k products if we were were to setup 301 rules for the old products pointing to the new products. Of course this would take a lot of time. So the options are: 1. Is it worth putting in this effort to make the 301 rules? 2. Or are we okay just to delete the old product pages, let the SE see the 404 and just wait for it to index the new pages? 3. Or, as a compromise, should we 301 the old product page to the new category page as this is a lot quicker for us do do than redirecting to the new product page?

What's the difference between a category page and a content page
Hello, Little confused on this matter. From a website architectural and content stand point, what is the difference between a category page and a content page? So lets say I was going to build a website around tea. My home page would be about tea. My category pages would be: White Tea, Black Tea, Oolong Team and British Tea correct? ( I Would write content for each of these topics on their respective category pages correct?) Then suppose I wrote articles on organic white tea, white tea recipes, how to brew white team etc...( Are these content pages?) Do I think link FROM my category page ( White Tea) to my ( Content pages ie; Organic White Tea, white tea receipes etc) or do I link from my content page to my category page? I hope this makes sense. Google counting numbers of products on category pages - what about pagination ?
Hi there, Whilst checking out the SERPS, as you do, I noticed that where our category page appears, google now seems to be counting the number of products (what it calls items) on the product page and displaying this in the 1st part of the description (see image attached). My problem is we employ pagination, so that our category page will have 15 items on it, then there are paginated results for the rest, with either ?page=2 or page-2/ etc. appended to the URL. Although this is only a minor issue, I was just wondering if there was a way to change the number of products displayed on that page to be the entire number of products in that category, is there a microformat markup or something that can over-ride what google has detected ? Furthermore is this system of pagination effective ? I have considered using javascript pagination, such that all products would be loaded on to the one page but hidden until 'paginated', but I was worried about having hidden elements on the page, and also the impact of load times. Although I think this may solve the problem and display the true number of products in a section! Any help much appreciated, Stuart b4urme.jpg
