What does "Number of Linking Root Domains" in Open Site Explorer actually mean?

I've read through the forum, but I'm confused as to what "Number of Linking Root Domains" means in the Linking Domains report. For example, if the root domain is Moz.com and the number is 135,000 does that mean there are 135,000 links from Moz pointing back to my site or does it mean there are 135,000 sites linking back to Moz?
Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

That sounds correct to me - if the number of Linking Root Domains associated with SearchEngineLand is 135,000, that's links pointing to SearchEngineLand's domain, not Moz's domain.

Hello there!
Just to help Tawny clarify this.In those reports, " Root Domain" means just the domain. In the case of Moz, it is moz.com. This also means that they are taking into account the whole site.
So, for example, consider that you have 3 pages:On one hand, if every page has one separate link pointing, fron different sites. Let's say: example-1.com, my-blog.org and site-overseas.com
In the report, when checking for site.com, you'll fine 3 root domain links.
On the other hand, if every page ( just to keep it generalistic, but it could be applied for just onepage) gets a link from the same root domain, but from diffetent pages (let's say: site-A.net/page1, site-A.net/keyword-two and site-A/whatever) in the repport you'll see just **ONE **root domain link.Can you see the difference?

Thanks Tawny. So just to make sure I absolutely understand, here's another example:
If the root domain I entered in Open Site Explorer is www.moz.com and one of the root domains that appears in the resulting Linking Domains report is SearchEngineLand and the number of Linking Root Domains associated with SearchEngineLand is 135,000, that means SearchEngineLand has 135,000 sites linking back to it -- not Moz right?

The number of Linking Root Domains you see is links from other sites pointing back to your root domain (or the root domain you entered in the search bar in Open Site Explorer). So, in your example, that would be 135,000 sites linking back to moz.com somewhere on the site.

REACT site and sitemap.xml
I have a REACT site www.nettheory.com. MOZ seems to only index the homepage but not all the internally linked pages, even the sitemap.xml is there. The reason I say that is the crawl result only shows the http and https version of the homepage, no other pages mentioned. I also noticed MOZ crawl results point out my content is very thin (<50 words). As a matter of fact, it has a lot more words if the JS runs correctly. Do we know if MOZ crawls REACT or JS based sites correctly?

No link to Open Site Explorer from Campaigns tracked keywords?
Hi there, The Guide to tracking your keyword rankings in Moz Pro states that "Click on the keyword to analyze it, the URL to be taken to that page in Open Site Explorer or the Optimize link to get a Page Optimization Score with recommendations.". But my URLs all target to the specific page on my site. I figure it would be nice to dive deeper in analysing specific pages, using Open Site Explorer Is just the link with Open Site Explorer broken, or is the Guide out of date? Thanks, Arnout

Moz error with domain and page authority if no www in my domain
Hello, so our domain is website.com and we do not use www in our domain. Now moz shows our page authority as huge (website. Com) and domain authority very low. But our domain is our page that we rank. Is this due to the fact that we use no www and we rank our main index page? Am I correct? Thanks!

Flauctuating number of Internal Equity-Passing Links affecting DA
My site has a high number of fluctuating internal equity passing links in open site explorer from month to month, theses range from 30 000 and sometimes as high as 1,million. The fluctuations occur even when I have made no changes onsite. I have noticed that when the internal equity passing links are very high the DA drops and when they are low the DA is high, has anyone ever experienced this with open site explorer ?

Open Site Explorer not reporting all 301 redirected links
Our site had over 2,000 root domains linking to it as reported in MOZ Open Site Explorer (and Google Webmaster Tools). We then changed the domain and made sure that 301 redirects were set up for all pages across the site. That was about 1 month ago. Open Site Explorer is now reporting less than 300 linking root domains. For the links that it is reporting the majority of these are being 301 redirected to the new URLs (some of them we changed the links directly). However the majority of the links that are being 301 redirected are not being reported. It is reporting most of the links coming from the old to the new domain. Google Webmaster Tools is reporting over 1,000 linking root domains to the new domain (it has a max of 1,000). We did notice that MOZ took some time to update the domain authority of the new domain. It was 1 for along time and it has now jumped up to 46 ( it was previously at 74). Maybe this is a time delay thing and eventually Open Site Explorer will report all of the 301 redirected links? It is a bit frustrating at the moment as we can't fully analyse the links to the site to try to focus on the high domain linking sites to get them to change the link directly. Also, If all links are being 301 redirected to the new domain should the authority not be close to where it was previously after one month? Our search traffic has dropped considerably since the launch of the new site and hasn't returned yet, so just wondering if the 301 redirected links pass on as much value as thre original direct links. Why Open Site Explorer is Showing 0 Total Internal Links?
Open Site Explorer is reporting "0" value under "Total Internal Links" as well as "Internal Followed Links" metrics for my website. I have a good interlinking of pages throughout the site.

Do 'Just Discovered' Links get added to the main link index?
Hi, I was wondering if the 'Just Discovered' links get added to the main link crawl index? It would seem to make sense for them to do so, as this would enable the enable the link index to be more up to date than it would otherwise be. Observing the link index it would seem that at the moment it does not do this and they are totally separate indexes (based on personal observation). Thanks
