      Hi folks,

My homepage has 3 identical H1 tags due to the fact that I have had to create individual hero images (with headings) for desktop, tablet and mobile. I couldn't get my theme to display the layout in exactly the way I wanted on each device without doing a specific hero image and tag for each device type.

Does this have a major impact on my SEO?

      Thanks,
      Mike.

        Thanks Paul,

Agreed. Its for the hero image only on the home page and I'm in discussions with the theme provider to see if there's a way to have only one H1 tag, but have the image change behind it as you move between devices. We'll see how I get on with that!

Thanks for your help it's greatly appreciated!

        Mike.

          Thanks Stephan,

That's good to know. You're totally correct, it's the same heading and same image with the image just cropped differently per device, and with only one of the rows appearing on each device. It seems to be displaying fine.

Thanks for your help with this!

          Mike.

Agree with Stephan - the dupe H1s, while not ideal, are not going to be a significant SEO issue.

But what will be the issue is the extra page bloat and therefore load speed of all those pages. Not necessarily for SEO, but most certainly for usability. There are much more efficient ways to get your pages to scale for different devices than to run three sets of headers.

            Paul

              Hi Mike,

I wouldn't worry about it—it won't have a major impact. Google will see all those H1 tags, but unless they get the sense, from the rest of your content, that you're relentlessly stuffing the keyword into the article text (and it doesn't sound like you are), it'll be fine.

What I would want to make sure of, though, is that Googlebot is definitely rendering the page in the way you expect. Sounds as if, rendered properly, only one H1 and header image should be visible on each device type? You should take a look at the page using the Fetch and Render tool in Google Search Console to make sure that, whether as desktop or smartphone, everything looks as it should. If you're carrying out this exercise across many pages on your site, you will find it faster to use Screaming Frog's "render screenshot" option.

Duplicate content with tagging and categories

Hello, Moz is showing that a site has duplicate content - which appears to be because of tags and categories. It is a relatively new site, with only a few blog publications so far. This means that the same articles are displayed under a number of different tags and categories... Is this something I should worry about, or just wait until I have more content? The 'tag' and 'category' pages are not really pages I would expect or aim for anyone to find in google results anyway. Would be glad to here any advice / opinions on this Thanks!

                Multiple Cities in Title Tag

My question is how to avoid having a spammy title. Currently I'm working on a project where a business serves four cities, but two of them are out of its home state. I'm trying to create a title tag that is appealing to the eyes, and meets what I need it to do at the same time. I was wondering what everyone though of this sample Brand X Dealer Serving Newark, DE; New Castle, DE; Glens Mills, PA; and Springfield, PA I know that too much repetition can be a bad thing, but this might not be a big deal since they are separate instances. Let me know what you all think. Thanks!

Page Title in Local SEO Title Tags?

Hi All, Still working on my title tag usage for local SEO, and I was hoping for some more feedback. My question is this: In Local SEO titles, I'm using location + keyword combinations, unique on each page. However, since each page has a specific title for the client, I figure I should be placing that at the front. My thought here was that this helps with the overall usability to the reader of the website. Ex. Contact Us page for Pizza shop Contact Us | Springfield IN Gourmet Pizza | Moe's Italian Pizza Anyone have thoughts on this one? Thank you!

                Title and Heading Tags

Firstly I would like to comment on how helpful this site is. I haven't posted much before but have been reading tonnes of answers for many months now and have been finding it really useful. I used the SEOmoz scanner and the main problem highlighted was duplicate content so I started to add 'customer product reviews' I had received and unique 'further information' to each page (hopefully this was the right thing to do to solve duplicate content! : ) ) Then I looked at heading and title tags. Currently I set title tags for each product page to be "Brand Name- Product Name" but after doing some research we are thinking of putting Keyword Description of Product | Product Name | Brand Name (around 60 characters long). So is this the advised thing to do and create unique titles that are relevant to each specific product page for over 200 pages we have? In addition, any advice on setting optimum tags would be great. We keep reading varying tips online. I gather ideally h1 needs to be a shorter keyword rich version of the title tag? Many Thanks

                Submitting multiple sitemaps

I recently moved over from html to wordpress. I have the google sitemap plugin on the new wordpress site, but in webmaster tools, it's only showing 71 pages, and I have hundreds, but many are html. Is it okay, to submit an html sitemap as well as the wp sitemap that's already in there?

Using commas in the title tag?

Is there a disadvantage/advantage to using commas to separate words in the title tag. Which will be more effective as a title tag: "keyword1 keyword2 - Brand" OR "keyword1, keyword2 - Brand"?
