UTM parameter problem
-
Hi guys,
Google Search Console gives me an error on these pages:
I see there's an UTM tracking in the URL from Google+. We do have an account there but I don't see how this might give an error.
Is this hurting our ranking score? How can we solve this?
-
NO, this is not hurting your ranking score. UTM parameters are being used for tracking purposes but won't have any influence on the pages. If you want to be absolutely sure about this you can do two easy things:
- Tell the crawler in Google Search Console that these parameters don't influence anything, you can read more about it here.
- Use canonical tags, which you already seem to have, so you should be good.

Hi Conversal
You have the root URL https://www.conversal.be/ set as your canonical so just ignore these spurious errors. Google knows that this is your page, it just pops up the odd anomaly now and again. It is not affecting your site's indexation or ranking.
There is a little more help here: https://www.terminusapp.com/blog/7-faqs-about-utm-parameters/
Just don't use them yourself anywhere!
I hope that helps
Regards Nigel

Redirecting one domain to another using utm tags
I have two live websites, which have both been live for over 10 years, so we have plenty of backlinks to both...domain1.com & domain2.com. Domain 1 and all urls is being merged into domain2.com. So 301 redirects will be setup for every page of the site....domain1.com/abc-1234/ to > domain2.com/abc-1234/ In Google analytics for domain2.com we want to be able to see which visits we have received as a result of a redirect from domain1.com. It is possible to see these visits that come in via organic, referrals and social etc, as those will come to us with the referral as domain1.com. However, with direct traffic, i.e. if someone types domain1.com into their search bar, these visits will be assigned as direct and we are not able to tell in GA if those users have typed in domain2.com, or domain1.com to get to our webpage. There are some suggestions in forums of adding utm_source tracking to all redirects (and add canonicals to those urls pointing to the non utm_source version), but my concern is that Google is going to have to go through one extra step to reach the page on the redirected domain. So without the utm source code Google will follow this route

domain1.com/123/ to domain2.com/123/ With the utm source code Google will follow this route
domain.com/123/ to domain2.com/123/?utm_source... then see's canonical, so moves to domain2.com/123/ So essentially I am giving Google one extra step to follow before it gets to the equivalent page on the new site. Is this an issue, and/or are there any other ways to track this redirection without adding extra parameters to the url?0 -

URL Parameters
Hi there, I have a magento sort by feature which has indexed loads of pages in Google with urls that have /shopby/ in them.Over 8k pages have been indexed like this. I cannot edit the robots within the page but have now disallowed the urls in robots.txt - i guess this will prevent new ones being indexed but not deindex current ones? So I looked into URL parameters, I added 'shopby' as a parameter in webmaster tools and told Google not to crawl any urls with this in it, will this deindex the pages already indexed? The only other way seems to be manually removing 8k urls, which i do not want to do. Any advice much appreciated. Obviously I do not want these urls indexed as they are weak/duplicate sort by search pages, I fear the panda update would not be too kind on it long term?

Mod_pagespeed lazy load meta redirects, is it a problem?
Google's mod_pagespeed has a lazy image loading facility which is great, but it uses meta refresh to auto disable itself for people without javascript and the moz crawler says it is not good for seo, but we are not using them for that, example code <noscript><meta HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" content="0;url='http://www.example.com/?ModPagespeed=noscript'" /><style><!--table,div,span,font,p{display:none} --></style><div style="display:block">Please click <a href="http://www.example.com/?ModPagespeed=noscript">here</a> if you are not redirected within a few seconds.</div></noscript> Will this cause SEO problems? If not then is there anyway to filter the warnings out of moz, it finds this issue with every page

Link value when with parameter ?
Hi all, I added some links to my website, but because I want to track traffic and other things, all links were created with Google URL Builder and slightly customized. So the end result looks like this: http://www.example.com/example_home.asp?acs=986lfqa&utm_source=keyword.fr&utm_medium=RP&utm_content=example_Link&utm_campaign=General All links are containing keyword as anchor text. And the question is if Google is smart enough to figure out that the anchor text is for http://www.example.com and not for the whole /example_home.asp............ I'm afraid that it will see it as entirely different page and don't pass link value.

SEOBook Rank Check Problem
Has anyone who uses SEOBook Rankcheck in Firefox (version 7) had problems with the tool picking up rankings for Bing, but not Google? I've got keywords that I know I rank in the top 10 (and my Raven account confirms it), but when I run a report on Rank Checker, those same words aren't ranking; instead I just get a "-". I've tried restarting my computer and emptying my cookies; but no luck. Any thoughts?
