Click fraud

Whats the best software to use to protect against click fraud?
-
If you are using any paid search services other than Google or Bing, I would strongly look into click fraud detection. The easiest way to do this is on your own end...
First, you want to make sure that it is a real user, not a bot. You can check the following...
1. Does the user carry a referrer?
2. Does the user accept cookies?
3. Does the user allow javascript?
4. Does the user allow flash? The above are some simple tests - neither of them individually conclusive - that can test if it is a bot.
Secondly, you want to make sure it is not the same user over and over again, by tracking IP addresses.
Third, you should make sure that your clicks aren't being generated in small iframes or popunders - the easiest way to do this is with javascript and capturing the window size and/or whether self.window = top.window.
Fourth, you should track what users are doing once they reach your site. If your conversion rate is less than 1/10th of Google AdWords or Bing, you should be concerned.
You can always use a third party software like AdWatcher, which is pretty good. It can get buggy in large volumes though.
Good Luck.

Google and the other search engines have pretty good systems in place to detect and protect against clickfraud. They have billions of dollars invested into the reliability of their ad programs. I wouldn't be overly concerned but you should definitely use analytics tools to monitor your data. If you suspect clickfraud, definitely let the correct representatives know and they will investigate.. Google in particular has been very good at making reps more available to endusers even with lower adspend.
Click Fraud is much less of an issue today than it was a decade ago. These companies have too much too lose if the reliability of the ad system were compromised. They need to serve relevant ads to relevant searchers otherwise advertisers wont pay and the system would break.

Adwords Conversions - Trying to track button clicks that fire when Bootstrap modal contact form clicked/opened
Hi there, I'm trying to implement google adwords conversions on a particular client's website. They have used bootstrap as the framework for their site and mainly open up contact forms within a bootstrap modal, after a button is clicked. See here: http://www.gtwstorage.co.uk/ I thought I had successfully implemented the adwords conversion tracking however it has been a week now, and my conversions still say they are "unverified". I wonder if anyone else has encountered this before and knows what I might be doing wrong. Thank you in advance, Darren

Why does my google analytics show a massive discrepancy from facebook's reported website clicks?
We're running a Facebook news feed ad that is pointing at our homepage. Facebook says that for yesterday there were 47 website clicks. Google analytics shows 15 total visitors from facebook with 3 of them landing on the homepage. I understand that there is likely going to be some discrepancy with users accidentally clicking and clicking back before the page loads, but this seems a little insane. I tested the ad using a page that pulls the Analytics cookie data using php and it is working properly so I don't understand what's happening. The url isn't tagged with utm parameters, which is going to be fixed. Anyone experience this or have any insight as to what could be this issue? Is this click fraud? Edit: For more clarification I was checking on my completely unfiltered google analytics profile/view.

Claiming SEO Services But Really Pay-Per-click
I just started marketing to dentists. I spoke at a local gathering to about 6 dentists and 3 of them said they were using SEO services. I looked at their sites and absolutely no SEO of anything was performed. They were quite taken back by this. Page titles all the same, no page descriptions etc. These dentists were paying about $800 per month and some had micro sites set up for them. It appears that this SEO company was using Google adwords to "artificially" drive traffic to the dentist or dentist micro site... and calling themselves an SEO company. This SEO company was also using tracking phone numbers on both the primary and micro sites. Which I've read can harm local NAP issues. I'm a bit worried that if I tell these dentists to stop using this company and go with me that the traffic will decrease while I work on real SEO. Maybe I should use adwords too until the "organic" power of SEO kicks in and they cut back until traffic stabilizes?

Google Adwords Clicks v.s. Google Analytics Visits
Hi Guys, This question has been asked several times before but after doing some research, I haven't really found the right solution and/or explanation. I'm currently seeing a 30-50% discrepancy in Adwords Clicks and Analytics Visits, where there are more clicks than visits in most situations. E.g. 74,127 clicks v.s. 46,845 visits (34 add-to-carts, 67 initiated orders, and a revenue of $12,000). Can anybody in the forum help explain this? Thank you, Jurgen P.S. I've also looked at all the tracking codes and everything seems to be alright, I've checked if any internal redirects are stripping off parameters but to no avail. Lastly, I'm not sure if this is a behavioral issue here in SEA--will first click (Adwords) and last click attribution (Analytics) be the only explanation? P.S.S. I'm seeing the same discrepancies with Facebook ads and Analytics.

Has anyone seen a recent study on % of clicks on Adwords vs Organic results?
HI, I am trying to find out what percentage of people click on organic search results on Google versus the percentage of people who click on advertisements. I have found many references online to studies that supposedly say 70-80% of clicks go to organic results and the rest go to ads, but I have never seen an actual study claiming this, let alone a recent one. Can anyone help? many thanks in advance, Annemieke
