Disavow 401, 403, 410, 500, 502, 503
-
Dear people,
I am cleaning my backlink profile and I am not sure if I should disavow links that drive you to a: 401, 403, 410, 500, 502, 503.
I do understand that since last Penguin update, it won't be necessary, but I would like to be sure about it. Any hints out there?
Thanks in advance

I am still trying to decipher rather you're talking about them pointing to your site that resolves in these codes or if when you query the URLs or domains they are giving you these codes: 401, 403, 410, 500, 502, 503I still think that I need to see a little bit more information however if you are cleaning house and you have backlinks that resolve to dead domains and 404's etc. Please remember anyone can make these domains and URLs live anytime. so it is best to err on the side of caution and disavow spamming backlinks. whether or not they're coming from dead / 500 backlink or hitting your site with an unauthorized 401.( I have placed what the codes mean below in hopes that it may be of some help to you)Successful 2xx

The only way to know would be to look at the links and your domai ( at the very least understand the type of Business you’re domains is)
If you’re willing to a put the here that would be awesome if not you can send them to me private message
If not I can place a URL that works for only one click and you add the URLs that way?
all the best,
tom

Is it worth Disavowing 15 links?
After a few months of blogging and redoing the home page, my client moved up from #40 to #1 for terms like "baltimore office furniture", "cubicles washington DC" etc. I did not do any link building for this campaign. This week, ranks are falling like a stone, and after months at #1 we're now back to #23 and lower for these terms. For the six months prior to August, we were getting about 10 clicks from referrals each month. Half way through August, we already have 35, and they are from spammy sounding sources like "search-error.com" and "search.pch.com". (screen shot attached) Should I disavow these links? There are about 20 different sources I do not recognize (see screen shot). Thanks! 6sD3oLL

Can 410 links trigger a penalty?
Hi! This is a follow on question from my other post - http://moz.com/community/q/site-dropped-after-recovery. As mentioned there, I've ad a manual penalty revoked for http://www.newyoubootcamp.com/. This came after the forum was hacked and some poor quality SEO was done. We've managed to clean a large amount of links, but ones such as http://about1.typepad.com/blog/2014/04/tweetdeck-to-launch-as-html5-web-app-now-accepting-beta-testers.html (anchor is "microsoft") are still being found and indexed. My question is that although the forum is now 410'd, can these junk links still be causing any harm? A huge amount have been disavowed, and many others taken down after a manual outreach campaign, but still others are appearing. The site is performing poorly in search despite having a much better domain authority, driven by largely great links from national newspapers, than its competitors, as well as solid user metrics such as a bounce rate of 30% and few on-site issues. This makes me think it must be the link profile. Any advice would be much appreciated. S

Disavow first (and link removal outreach second) as tactic?
I need to remove/disavow hundreds of domains due to an algorithmic penalty. Has anyone disavowed first and done the outreach thing second as a tactic? The reason why I was considering this was as follows: Most of the websites are from spammy websites and unlikely to have monitored accounts/available contact details. My business is incredibly seasonal, only being easily profitable for half of the year. The season starts from next month so the window of opportunity to get it done is small. If there's a Penguin update before I get it done, then it could be very bad news. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. (Incidentally, if you are interested in, I also posted here about it: http://moz.com/community/q/honest-thoughts-needed-about-link-building-removal)

I want to Disavow some more links - but I'm only allowed one .txt file?
Hey guys, Wondering if you good people could help me out on this one? A few months back (June 19) I disavowed some links for a client having uploaded a .txt file with the offending domains attached. However, recently I've noticed some more dodgy-looking domains being indexed to my client's site so went about creating a new "Disavow List". When I went to upload this new list I was informed that I would be replacing the existing file. So, my question is, what do I do here? Make a new list with both old and new domains that I plan on disavowing and replace the existing one? Or; Just replace the existing .txt file with the new file because Google has recognised I've already disavowed those older links?

Understanding how to fix a 403 issue with my website
Hi guys, I hope you can help solve a mystery for me! My site FranceForFamilies.com has been around for 9 years and has always ranked well - at least until I launched a new Wordpress version earlier this year. The purpose of the relaunch was to improve the look of the site, so I kept the content and meta titles the same but created a new design. However, from the day of the new launch the search engine rankings have plummeted, to the point where most seem to have disappeared all together. I have found that when Moz crawls the site, it only crawls one page. I asked the Moz team about this and they said that the site is returning a 403. They also tested this using a curl and received a 406 response: curl -I www.franceforfamilies.com/ HTTP/1.1 406 Not Acceptable However, when I check our Google Webmaster tools I can't recreate the issue. I don't really know what is going on, and I don't have the technical knowledge to solve this - can you help? Thanks, Daniel

Disavowal & Reconsideration request - Can I do one without the other?
I submitted a link disavowal file for a client a few weeks ago and before doing that I read up on how to properly use the tool. My understanding is that if you received a manual penalty then you need to submit a reconsideration request after cleaning up links. We didn't receive a penalty so I didn't submit one. I'm wondering if anyone has used the tool (not stemming from a penalty) and if you did or didn't submit a recon. request, and what the results were. I've read that if a site is hit algorithmically, then filing a recon request won't help. Should I just do it anyway? Would be great to hear from anyone who has gone through a similar situation.

Huge spike in 404s and 500 erros
I'm curious what might cause an inordinate amount of 404s in the reporting from SEOMoz's dashboard. I'm exploring links that are marked as 404s and they are (for the most part) working. I talked with the sysadmin and there were no outages this weekend. We also had a number of 500 errors reported in Webmaster Tools but everything seems to be up. Any ideas?
