Oh great mozzers, I fall at your feet... I feel like I'm going insane...

My client, 35 Degrees (http://35DegreesSteaks.com) is quite the mystery.  I handle SEO and paid search for them, and we're doing great in those areas... however, we're just not seeing the conversions once I deliver these folks to the site.

The people are targeted, the keywords are sound, and from what I can see, the checkout process isn't a mess... but they are just not getting the sales.

We're currently starting to test some price points with some newer, lower cost "intro packages", so we'll see if that's one of the pain points.  I'm also in the process of convincing them to include a Verisign or some other logo in the checkout process.

However, I was hoping the great minds here could take a quick look and see if I'm missing anything else.

      Thanks in advance!

      Jeff

Thanks for the advice... I have considered suggesting a different form layout, but since I've seen so many similar ways out in the wild, it's hard to tell (we tested a one pager while I was at Napster and it flopped, yet had success other places, so you never know).

What's a high bounce rate for a cart these days?

Aside from what Ryan pointed out, I made it to the checkout page and felt very overwhelmed with all the information being asked. For the novice web user, they may also be confused as to some steps appear side by side, while others take up both columns. Maybe do some split testing on this page. For example, maybe use Ajax to hide all the required data for each step, and it simply gets expanded when clicked on? Would make the user feel less overwhelmed and at the same time able to easily see how many steps are needed to complete the checkout process?

Also, do you have a rather high bounce rate for the checkout page (/cart/basket/)?

            Thanks, Ryan!

            • Totally agree on the trust seals... I'm trying to move those up and into the checkout process as well (plus doing a test with Verisign).
            • I wish it was a small price to pay... I'm fighting this one right now, but let's just say that $20 for shipping within CA is a right bargain compared to reality.
            • There may be something to this... we've tested different copy on the home page recently, but to no avail.  Will just keep trying on this front.
            • On the containers, now that's an interesting insight... have to discuss this further with the client.

            Thanks again!

              Hi Jeff.

A few thoughts after looking at your site.

              • your trust seals are in the footer, very small and almost impossible to see as the color matches the background. Knowing information like your site is a member of the BBB and you have "Certified Angus Beef" can only benefit your conversion rate. The primary reason I advise clients to add trust symbols to their sites is for conversion rates. Double their site and use colors. An example I like is www.vzw.com.

              • Consider adding a special offer or some incentive for customers to order? "Free shipping on your first order". I realize shipping is a large expense for the company, but if you are offering an exceptional product and service, then it's a small price to pay for earning a customer who could potentially re-order on an ongoing basis.

              • Perhaps a bit of salemanship on your front page. I don't specialize in marketing but I feel your home page lacks any clear incentive to order. Why should a consumer pay a minimum of $185 and fill their freezer with a lot of meat when they can purchase fresh meat from the grocery store every week? I am sure you have a good answer but perhaps you should let potential consumers know on the home page.

              • I read the shipping information and learned you have special containers which somehow keeps the meats cold for 48 hours. I feel some form of education on this topic may be needed upfront. As a consumer, I am not educated on your product and I don't understand how you can keep meat properly chilled as it ships for 48 hours. I am sure you can educate me but it's important you educate potential customers upfront and not make them dig for the information.

I very much agree with Jason on the A/B testing and CrazyEgg.

At this point, they haven't tried any conversion optimization methods because we can't even see what would be holding anybody back.

Not that I would ever think that they're perfect, but at first blush, I can't see anything that would stop me from checking out.

I guess that's the real crux of this question... where should I even start?  What do you folks see as possible show stoppers for the checkout.

The tracking tool is secondary (I've made GA and a bunch of others work on this task)... I really just need to know the pain points.

What have you tried in terms of conversion optimization? I would strongly suggest using a tracking tool (like crazyegg - i'm in no way associated with the company) and/or A/B testing to determine what it is that people like and do not like..

Can Very High Impressions and 0% Organic CTR Impact our SEO Rankings?

I have a very strange feeling that someone bad is trying to hurt our company, but maybe I am wrong. Let me explain. In the last two month, we have seen a very significant drop in sales on our website, but we couldn't figure out why. We have looked at different metrics (Google Search Console, Moz, Google Analytics), but everything looked alright. We had 10% loss in traffic, but we didnt believe at the time that it could be the main issue. Just yesterday we've discovered the following (please see attached screenshot😞 On August 18, 2018 Google launched Search Update On the same date, we had a jump in Organic Search Impressions for one particular keyword, which we never tracked before: "free facebook login". Majority of all impressions (233,000 out of 258,000) were from Philippines. Very low total number of clicks (50 clicks) led to 0% Average CTR for this keyword. Which in return, also lowered our global CTR by 1%. One month later we had 1000's of spam emails sent to our Helpdesk from two IP addresses, also from Philippines. We blocked them of course. It could be all coincidence. I dont know. But do you think that someone can use this fraudulent tactic to lower our CTR and drop our ranking and traffic? Can this influence our SEO in any way? It's also possible that someone is attacking Facebook and we just happen to be there, on the first page, for the same keyword. Should we try to eliminate our page for this keyword and see what happens? I've checked this article from Rand Fishkin - https://moz.com/blog/impact-of-queries-and-clicks-on-googles-rankings-whiteboard-friday and it seems that CTR is an important factor. However the article is from 2015 and maybe it's no longer relevant. What should we do? Thanks! G86Nge4

Will Landing Page Design with Large Areas of White Background Enjoy a Higher Conversion Rate?

My designer has created a landing page with a dark background. Text is white and other colors. Does a dark background impact the conversion rate? Is it better to have a white background? I am concerned that a dark background may distract visitors. The landing page is: http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/MidtownLawOfficeSublet3300SFBelowMarket We plan on using this landing page for LinkedIn advertising. Thanks!!

Bounce rate vs main domain and subdomain

So there is a website www.domainname.com that is based on wordpress. Basically this site has 8-10 pages  but it is not a blog. And it has a subdomain  mystore.domainname.com which is based on magento. While developing the site the circumstances were such that we had to use a subdomain for ecommerce based on magento. So the wp site is ranking and people are landing on that site. It makes sense when it has a bounce rate of around 72% because people are actually going to the subdomain ( store ) after they land on the wp site. Because they are actually looking to buy. My question is will this bounce rate affect in ranking of the wp site ? Because for now only the wp site is ranking for most of the terms. Should i consider  removing the wp site and have the whole site based on magento ? I appreciate any kind of feedback and suggestion 🙂

Is it possible to set a Goal conversion tracking from a subdomain to a root domain?

Hi Mozzers, Here is an issue I am going through: I have a root domain(www.example.com) that is the core website where you are able to schedule a service I have a subdomain (sub.example.om) that is part of content strategy offering free tips and follows a different branding strategy. There are internal links from sub to root domain I have a GA subdomain tracking code installed on every page for both domains I would love to set goal tracking on GA for visitors coming to my subdomain, then going to root domain and then schedule a sevices? Is  this possible? If it is, can someone show me a How To because I tried it anddidn't work? Thanks mozzers!

How to track full path of website visitors until conversion, not just landing page?

hi, This is my first question in the forums and I'm looking forward to be part of a great SEO community. I was wondering ow to track full path of website visitors until conversion, not just landing page? I've been using Wordpress jetpack site stats for while, which shows great data like keywords used in google, landing page etc. But I would like to have access to the full path for each separate visitors (including their IP address and country is possible) to improve my website and conversions. Example: step 1: Visitor X types "seo" on Google step 2: visitor lands on my homepage step 3: visitor visits to order page and buys Is there such tool available as a Wordpress plugin? Or do I have to use Google analytics for this? thank you for your help, Marc

How to find average organic traffic growth rate for ecommerce startup?

Happy Friday Everyone, I have a quick question: I am in the process of crunching some numbers to try and figure out an organic traffic forecast for a client. One of the crucial metrics I can't seem to figure out is traffic rate of growth over the next year or so. The reason this is complicated for me is that I have only ever done this sort of thing for an established business before, and had plenty of past organic traffic data to work with. What I am looking for is a source that could give me a reasonable idea of what kind of growth rates I might expect for a startup with practically no data; I would be perfectly happy with a national average for online retail startups. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

How highly do you value a link from the BBB?

What I would like to know is how valued a link from the BBB is. I've searched various forums and websites to try and put a value on it, but I can't find a whole lot of useful discussion on it and how it can affect rankings. My ecommerce company has been approached by the BBB for Accreditation, which is something I've always been somewhat interested in. I realize many business owners either love/hate the BBB, but so far I have had several claims with them and they've always sided with my company, despite not being accredited. The BBB rep immediately started spouting off the benefits of having the BBB link to you, and I could see that as being true. They have a DA of 96, and obviously not everyone can get a link on that website (money and good reputation required). However, he probably exaggerated when he said often times businesses skyrocket in the rankings because of this backlink; he also seemed to think having the BBB code and badge that link to the BBB website seemed to affect rankings, which I don't think is correct. I also think that having their badge on our website could increase sales conversion (and maybe even increase the number of people that complain to the BBB). I'm not too worried about the complaints since we don't have ethics problems. The accreditation is $750 (seems high) and I'm not sure if it's really worth that amount, but I could be wrong. Would love some professional insight on if the BBB is worthwhile link or if it's overhyped and the money would be better spent elsewhere. At face value, it certainly seems like a good investment and I'd love to hear some insight as to how much value their backlink truly has to a company or if that money is better spent elsewhere.

Conversion optimization with Optimizely, impact on SEO

I am looking into signing up with www.optimizely.com for conversion testing.  They put scripting on my site which will then redirect half of my site visitors to an alternate home page.  The site I want to test on is ranking quite well with Google and I do not want to hurt my rankings. And with this set up,what Google will think is my home page is not and so I am essentially sending visitors to a different page than Google reads as my home page in source code. So, my concern is whether this will have a negative impact on my SEO rankings to redirect 50% of site visitors to a different page using this testing tool? I would use Google Web Site Optimizer, but many of my sites are in Wordpress and it seems that Wordpress and web site optimizer are not so compatible. Advice would be appreciated. Thank you, Robert
