Anyone Got An Honest Opinion Of WPengine
-
Hi Guys,
I wonder if any of you have used / are using WPengine. I am had thought about using them before and was really impressed by there load speeds. They are pretty expensive though when compared to others.
Now, I already have ok hosting but everything is run through a cdn and S3 for streaming HD Videos. Is it worthwhile shelling out for WP engine (pro) or is it better to just stick with an OK host and cdn.
Opinions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jenson

So you know you do have to tell him to turn on the content delivery network with zippy kid and if your site is not performing let them know they will tweak it

Signed up Zippykid this afternoon for 1 site to see how well it works out. Already the backend system is 100% better to use that wpengine.
now 12.5 hours and counting for an answer from wpengine...shocking!

Hey Jensen,
just happened to see your reply. Thank you for the kind words and the helpful answer. I think that if you really want them to get back to you immediately that's a big priority for you obviously it is for the one. I can say this and you have to understand I like WP engine a lot there very good to me but I can understand where you're coming from.
I know that it it sounds like I'm probably trying to promote a company who is not as well known. Why have some hidden agenda because I keep referencing company. Zippy kid is the only manage WordPress host have F5 load balancers that there the fastest. Best load balancer there set up with rack space would cost without markup 6000 something dollars a month. Their sites are ones that you can add collaborators you add your URL then it takes about a minute or 2 to build the site send you an e-mail you can then log into WordPress after which if you need your site migrated they can do that or you can do it yourself. plus the fact that you're in England I am going to private message you 2 numbers one is the CEO's cell phone please don't give it out I just texted him and asked him if I could do this is that okay. The 2nd one is their main phone line. If you want really fast WordPress hosting with excellent support I know. Page.ly has certain hours that they do not do active support. if for whatever reason somebody can help you right away called 2nd number Tom said it was okay.
I should also tell you web synthesis is very fast in replying. However I think you'll like the Zippy kid better. You get the 60 day money back and the content delivery network built-in their base plan.
Check your private messages please in a minute after this.
Sincerely,
Thomas

Quick update for anyone considering using WP engine
It is such as shame because they have fast servers, polite staff BUT the slowest support of any host I have ever come across. At $105 per month for my package I would expect at least a chat function but 9 hours wait for an urgent ticket is unacceptable. I stayed awake until 3am trying to sort a problem then at 8am there was no update. The night staff actually get back to you quicker than the day staff. Now 12.15pm and no update since 3.30am.
Backend software is the most confusing I have ever come across and migration is near on impossible, so much so that even there support staff wiped my site back to standard wp install and then said "fixed".
Luckily I am on a free trial so I can bail but wasted 2 days now trying to do something that with any other host would take an hour.
They claim to have a phone number but if you can get anyone to answer then you are doing better than me. I am in the UK so I am not going to hold for hours on end to a US number.

Thanks for that really detailed reply. It has given me a lot to think about. Also just seen the mozperk for 4 months free which is great as it will give me a chance to give it a good run out before deciding whether or not to shift my money sites there or not.
Thanks Again

I have had WP engine for a little bit over a year now went from there base to their Pro package with the CDN. It is extremely fast and a very good host. I really love them you can add the CDN to the base package for $20 a month In addition to using S3 for your images and videos. I actually have an account with every manage WordPress host for the big ones WP Engine, Pagely, web synthesis & ZippyKid
I can tell you the only one that gives you true free DynECY dns is zippy kid pagely does not allow you to use your MX record if use their name servers so you must get another DNS host and you point your domain at their IP in order to use mx or e-mail. Web synthesis is very good they are base price $27 a month to believe and 2000 visitors they promote using cloud flare as DNS as well as using it as a CDN for both the base and the Pro accounts. The pro accounts are reeled business club flare which is a real big difference.
WP engine and Zippy Kid both have phone numbers which is a huge plus. Both have excellent customer service Zippy kid gives you a CDN with every plan and they have Net DNA and now edge CDN pagely makes you pay $50 for the right to pay them an additional $20 for a CDN and they use edge. WP engine uses Net DNA for their CDN and will sell it to you for an additional $20 on their base price. So base WP engine 20,000 views a month $29 +20 for CDN or $100 100,000 views a month and 10 domains built-in CDN. Zippy kid $25 on 100,000 views a month built-in DNS by dynect built-in cdn phone with great customer service they share some technology with WP engine they both got along very well. Pagely $24 base no cdn 20,000 Views a month to upgrade to the CDN you pay $50 a month for hosting and $20 a month for the CDN and get you believe 50,000 views. Web synthesis like I said 2000 views for $27 a month because of $200 for I believe 50 thousand views a month still no CD in and wish to order it separately.
If you do get WP engine if you wouldn't mind helping me out here is my affiliate code. http://www.shareasale.com/r.cfm?u=669394&b=398424&m=41388&afftrack=&urllink=wpengine%2Ecom
I know I've been very honest about everything.
Sincerely,
Thomas

What is your opinion in the use of jquery for a continuous scroll type of page layout?
So, I'm in 2 minds about this; let me start with a bit of background info. Context
Web Design | | ChrisAshton
We have a new client who is in the final days of their new site design and were when they first contacted us. Their design essentially uses 5 pages, each with several pages worth of content on each, separated with the use of jquery. What this means is a user can click a menu item from a drop-down in the nav and be taken directly to that section of content like using internal anchor links as if it were a separate page, or they can click the top-level nav item and scroll through each "sub-page" without having to click other links. Vaguely similar to Google's "How Search Works" page if each sector of that page had it's own URL, only without the heavy design elements and slow load time. In this process, scrolling down to each new "sub-page" changes the URL in the address bar and is treated as a new page as far as referencing the page, adding page titles, meta descriptions, backlinks etc. From my research this also means search engines don't see the entire page, they see each sub-page as their own separate item like a normal site. My Reservations I'm worried about this for several reasons, the largest of them being that you're essentially presenting the user with something different to the search engines. The other big one being that I just don't know if search engines really can render this type of formatting correctly or if there's anything I need to look out for here. Since they're so close to launching their new site, I don't have time to set up a test environment and I'm not going to gamble with a new corporate website but they're also going to be very resistant to the advice of "start the design over, it's too dangerous". The Positives
For this client in particular, the design actually works very well. Each of these long pages is essentially about a different service they offer and the continuous scrolling through the "sub-pages" acts as almost a workflow through the process, covering each step in order. It also looks fantastic, loads quickly and has a very simple nav so the overall user experience is great. Since the majority of my focus in SEO is on UX, this is my confusion. Part of me thinks that obscuring the other content on these pages and only showing each individual "sub-page" to search engines is an obvious no-no, the other part of me feels that this kind of user experience and the reasonable prevalence of AJAX/Paralax etc means search engines should be more capable of understanding what's going on here. Can anyone possibly shed some light on this with either some further reading or first-hand experience?0 -

On site SEO opinions
Hi all, I have been testing different configurations for my on-site SEO for a while now and I think I am pretty much there. However it is always nice to know what other SEO's think about my keyword density and usage. My site is http://www.tomlondonmagic.com I am curious as to what you think regarding landing page content, whether you need lots or text or little text? I have just removed links in the text as I feel I want to keep as much juice on my landing page as possible. Thanks all!

Does anyone use Ultimento for Magento?
We're working on a re-design and want to start with SEO rather than leave it until the end. Of course, saving time and money on a custom template would be great. Ultimento found at www.ultimento.com boasts great SEO features. Has anybody used it? Please comment. Thanks in advance! Kevin
