Google auto-correct affecting one of my keywords
-
Hi there,
I have a keyword "finao montreal" that used to rank 8 or 9 in Google serp.
All of a sudden it dropped under the top 50 results, I was wondering why and I found out that Google now auto-corrects "finao montreal" to "final montreal".
Finao is a well know brand of custom high-end photo albums and I find it strange that Google corrects it.
Anyone has an idea on what to do with this situation? Is there a way to provide Google some feedback about the autocorrect?
-
I used the feedback link on the bottom of the page to report the issue to google, we'll see if it helps...
-
I just tried to logout and do a search but with the search settings in french and the keyword also gets corrected to final instead of finao. So it looks like it is more of an auto-correct issue than personalized search results but the auto-correction only happens in french...
-
Well, the results displayed while you are logged in and while you are logged out are different because when you are logged in Google prefers to show you personalized search results. May be the email you are logged with is in someway connected to your domain/ webpage or something that identifies you with your webpage/ domain. If that is the case then Google does not feel it is necessary to show you the results for your page. Also, since you are logged in and since your search becomes personalized, Google will show the results that you've shown interest in...For example, it will show results related to friends or pages (Actors, Music etc.) you have circled on Google Plus etc. (Basically, where Google can identify from the logged in details, who the person is) and so on and so forth...you get the drift.
So, anyway since this could happen to other people who are logged into Google and is searching for your content or keywords, it is necessary to also utilize that area in SEO as well. I mean...if your page or articles (or a link to it) are liked by someone or if Google knows that you are the author of that article and if a friend of yours who has circled you on Google Plus is doing a search while logged in, then Google might show your result first to that person because Google feels that, that person might like to see more articles from you related to that keyword.
Basically, now a days you need to keep an eye on how to optimize the personalized search aspect (along with normal stuff) so that you or your article will appear for a personalized search by someone who is connected to you. So yeah. get your social circles growing especially on Google Plus.
And, the fact that you are still doing all right when you are not logged in, is a good thing to know.

Humm, strange, it seam the results vary if I am connected or not in google account. My site (danielvaladas.com) is now listed first for this search and the term is no longer auto-corrected if I am not connected. And the search was without the quotes.
If I connect to my google account and try it again, then I get all sort of corrected results such as:
Fiona Apple @ Olympia de Montréal – le 3 juillet | Montreal.TV
Dépôt final - Bibliothèques - Université de Montréal
Sprint final à Montréal et Sherbrooke - Le Journal de Québec
News Final on Global Montreal | Global Montreal
Critique concert: Fiona Apple à L'Olympia de Montréal | Sors-tu.ca
Well you get the point, anything similar to Finao but nothing including Finao in the first pages.
I also get this:
Résultats, y compris pour final montreal
Rechercher uniquement finao montreal.which indicates that finao was corrected to final.
If I change my google account search settings to english, then it gives me about the same results as when I am not connected, this post is also there!

May be I haven't understood what you mean when you say that Google Auto corrects the search for the keyword you are talking about. When I typed those words into Google it did not do any auto correction and showed me a list of pages with Finao and Montreal in it. But, yeah, when I typed those keywords in " " it said that: No results found for "finao montreal" and just showed me the pages which has finao and montreal in it, as it did not find any pages with the exact two words knitted closely together to form that exact phrase.
Can you tell us what is the name of your website and also how did you come to the conclusion that Google auto corrects your keywords?

Google Contacting Clients in an Adwords MCC?!
I am curious if this has happened to others and if so if you were able to resolve it. Today a client forwarded an email that went to a client account and we were in no way copied on it. This is a client that spends in the 6 figures with us and I was shocked to read (Any bold or italics I have added): Hi *****, My name is Jimmy Morrow and I am an Account Strategist at Google on our Agency Team. Your account was recently selected for free dedicated support this quarter and I will be your new point of contact at Google for all things AdWords. We can go over a few housekeeping things I noticed, broader strategy, and some betas that would be a good fit. Please let me know when you have time for a 20-30 minute phone call when we can go over the accounts and make a plan for working together this quarter. Thanks and just let me know a time that works best for you! Best, Jimmy To me, they have essentially gone around us and with the "housekeeping" and "beta" comments sought to make us look either incapable and/or uninformed. We are Google Partners, etc. and we have clients in our MCC for Adwords. I have never seen an occasion where Google blatantly tried to steal the client as it appears is happening here. This is a client who heretofore had NEVER used Adwords and they have been in business since before there was a Google or an Internet. We brought them to Adwords about 6 - 8 months ago!!! They are spending 6 figures on Adwords and I am ready to pull them out and spend the money elsewhere. We sent emails from our UK and our Houston office and no response from lil ole Jimmy. Our UK team has tried calling Google and nothing and then Chatting with them and we can get nothing. This is a client who has a lot of faith in our abilities based on many things we have done for them that worked and they are the kind of client that let's us know when issues arise. So, they are not going to switch and that is not the issue. The issue is Google acted as if they wanted to embrace agencies and if that is so, why then try to back door them? I hope to hear from others who are handling PPC with Google. Thanks a ton. Robert

How do I correct the facts in the information boxes to the right of search results for an individual.
Today it looks as if Google has assembled some information about my client keynote speaker Garrison Wynn and made an info box for him on the right of the results. The information is outdated and incorrect as I see it is for several people I looked up. I have a Google + Profile for him that is linked to his site. But Google seems to be ignoring that information and selecting information from various sources that are outdated. (Garrison has not been an ACTOR for over 13 years and the internet is full of relevant sources that give his title as a keynote speaker. How do I show Google the correct information to use. Do I need to create a BUSINESS Google + for him? The search term I used is Garrison Wynn. They have our buddy and fellow PRO MOZ user, social media expert Brian Carter listed as a football player..LOL. c0oUi0F.png eWWX1tg.png

Getting Google Plus Page to Appear
I've recently been making changes and updates to my company's verified local Google + page--my question is when and/or how do I configure it to appear in the search results? When I type my business into Google (Exchange Capital Management), it's not even within the results displayed. The page isn't accessible unless someone were to Google "Exchange Capital Management Google Plus." As mentioned, the page has been verified, updated, and has about 8,000+ views. Any advice or feedback is appreciated! All best, Lauren McLaughlin

How to Host Microsites: Mission Critical or Six of One / Half Dozen of the Other?
Hello, fellow Mozzers! Been racking my brain. Thanks for your help on this one! I am in the process of putting together several microsites for our marketing agency. The sites feature similar theme and design elements, but are focused on delivering a customized industry-specific visitor experience with unique navigation, brand messaging, services, case studies, etc. I am struggling with whether I should host as entirely separate websites, as subdomains of the parent site, or as separate WP installs in subfolders of the main domain. I have been leaning toward the sub-folder option to share domain authority and keep our SEO efforts consolidated. But I am also concerned that the microsite "home pages" will underperform as sub-folder pages, versus being an actual home page of a unique domain or sub-domain. Is this a six-of-one or half-dozen of the other situation, or are there some important considerations I'm missing here? Thank you for your help here!

Branding Association for SEO, and Google's understanding of a "brand Name"
Hey guys. so I currently run my own business here in Queens NY, for Web Design and online marketing, specifically SEO, SMM, SEM, and some inbound marketing that ties to SMM and SEO. When starting I was in a different business, and had kept my old business name. I plan on re-branding myself January 1st with a brand new name, the name i'm seriously considering is "Media Marketing USA". I was able to purchase MediaMarketingUSA.com. I feel this name is good and bad at the same time, and here are some of the reasons. The pro: Easy to remember, sounds big, and describes my business well. The con: Sounds generic, and I worry it will be hard to brand. I used the mentioning tool provided by Moz and see that nearly everyday 500-1,000 people are naturally mentioning Media Marketing USA, one of my biggest questions is will this give me a competitive advantage in SEO, or will it hurt me in SEO as Google may not see this or understand its a brand name? Do you personally think this is a good name to re-brand myself and use as my main website? The Website itself will be used as a corporate website, a method of inbound and outbound marketing through content creation, Social Media, and of course SEO, targeting specific locations, and specialty services and industries in the NYC area. Please share your thoughts with me, THANKS!!!
