How to increase page authority
-
I wonder how to increase the page authority or the domain authority to begin with. It seems you are putting a lot of weight on this in your analysis.
-
The adult industry is something else. It's something you should have stated in your original post. It's like the gambling industry.
I'm not sure if SEOmoz is the place for you. I know it's definitely not the place for black hat or even grey hat SEO.
I wish you the best in your company!
-
Francisco, I dont say it's wrong what you say. It may work for Nigerian car dealers or the like. It may even work to a certain extend in many industries - and in others not.
I am in my industry since 2002. I know what my audience is looking for - otherwise I wouldn't have survived so well. Because I know my audience, I know it holds top secret confidentiality above all - means really all. People write us angry comments whenever they belief that the sender's address of our parcels could reveal to the postman anything about the content... it's in the so called adult products industry.
Believe me, nobody links to those offers. Just a few specialized forums. And there we are present as you may have guessed already.
So, this SEO game, for all of us in this industry IS about how to cheat better than the competition. While I was mostly ahead of them for 10 years now with numerous domains, I have now suffered a serious setback. Guessing what it might be that made me drop in middle december and even deeper in middle of january, I am seeking info in all kinds of ways, particularily analysing link structures of competitors (because content wise non eof them can compete).
So I ended up here. But it does no good to me. It's just waste of time to receive advice of well meaning people, admitted, but people without a notion as to what it really takes to succeed in a highly competitive market.
If you make a great living promoting websites on how to ship cars to Nigeria - ... congratulations!! I wouldn't trust in this kind of market to the extend of investing my time into it.
JML, of course right. Natural link building - if one relies on this he should at least also enter the tribe of "forever living" because he will badly need it.
I still wonder what this SEO Moz is good for. Is it worth to let it run into the paid membership? Any opinions?
-
@JML, partial truths? Look at my site here Ship Overseas. Facebook Likes & Comments.
I'm not joking about having Nigerians use my services. There is a market I uncovered that I didn't know about.
Well, let's see what you have. Post "your" kick ass content and I'll run OSE on it. I wasn't trying to confuse anyone or "obfuscate" the poster.
-
Thank you! I hate when people try to obfuscate SEO.
If I relied on kick ass business and natural link building no one would pay me $100 an hour. Probably because they would be 30k in the hole before they hit front page.
I do however lean away from explaining my practice to clients. I don't want them to replace me, right? I am transparent and above board, but I don't explain the process...
Francisco is giving one of those partial truths. I am sure it was intended to confuse the poster in thinking, I am doing that and getting no where! Perhaps I will pay this guy that knows how to do what I do better...
-
Then what you do is use your SEOMOZ tools like Followerwonk to make friends on Twitter. Twitter is full of people like me who link to others in related industries.
Does "how to ship a car to Nigeria" sound like there's a readership? At 1st, hell NO there's no readership there. But wait.... these Nigerians are buying cars in USA over the internet and shipping them to Nigeria. Some of them are dealerships. REPEAT BUSINESS!
My point is that maybe there is a catch 22 "if" you can't find out what your audience is looking for.
-
Hello Francisco,
thanks. So, you are all writing kick ass content!?
Allow me a smile. There are industries where nobody links to even the kick assest content under the sky - for reasons of confidentiality. And BTW what you propose creates a kind of catch 22 situation: no authority - no ranking - no reader - no excited backlinker - no authority ....
That doesn't work for sure.
Thanks anyway for the political correct answers.
-
Thanks, Heather. The number of backlinks wont do the job, would it? Analysis of main competitors shows that the number of backlinks to my site is higher than the respective count of my best competitor. Page authority is equal (48) though but my domain's authority is lower (mine 37, competitor 40).
My domain receives 8 times more backlinks and ranks lower.
What is interesting: MozRank, my competitor is ahead and for MozTrust as well (even though only slightly).
That's why I figure, it must have to do with quality of backlinks. Is it the game of high PR backlinks? Means in the end, paid links on high PR blogs f.e.
If it boils down to this - which is an old hat - then I do not yet understand what this pro membership offers as advantage. It just keeps me 100 USD shorter to buy high PR backlinks, doesn't it?
-
Hi wcsinc, increasing page and domain authority takes time. The best way to get there is writing kick ass content that your users will love AND that web developers/bloggers will "want" to link to.
I recommend reading chapter 7 http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo.
-
It refers to onsite SEO and offsite SEO. (just trying to make it a little clearer).
-
Hi there. My understanding has always been that page authority and domain authority are indicators of how well optimised your site is. They are metrics rather than targets and will increase naturally as you continue to build links and create engaging content.

How can I deal with tag page duplicate issues
The Moz crawler reported some dupliated issues. Many of them have to do with tags.
Moz Pro | | IamKovacs
Each tag has a link, and as some articles are under several tags, these come up as duplicate content. I read Dr Peter's piece on Canonical stuff, but it's not clear to me if any of these are the solution. Perhaps the solution lies somewhere else? Maybe I need to block the robots from these urls (But that seems counter-SEO-productive) Thanks

Why is Moz Reporting as Duplicate Page Titles?
Our most recent MOZ crawl campaign is reporting 931 duplicate page title errors, most of which are "Product Review" pages like the following. Although there is only one review on this page, http://www.audiobooksonline.com/Cell_Stephen_King_unabridged_compact_discs.html, MOZ is reporting 15 duplicate page title, four of which I present below. http://www.audiobooksonline.com/reviews/review.php/full/0743554337/0/name/desc

On page report card - small niggle
I've been carefully making page corrections and trying to get each age in line with SEOMoz recommendations. However, under the section marked Optional (and I realise I could just ignore it!) it tells me to "Avoid Using Meta Keywords Tag". However, none of the pages have any meta keywords in. They have a meta description, but no keywords. I have also removed any global keywords. Is the software wrong, or are there some more hidden somewhere.... website page is http://www.forktruckexpress.com/Hire/rossendale-forklift-hire.html Thanks in advance

Increase of 404 error after change of encoding
Hello, We just have launch a new version of our website with a new utf-8 encoding. Thing is, we use comma as a separator and since the new website went live, I have a massive increase of 404 error of comma-encoded URL. Here is an example : http://web.bons-de-reduction.com/annuaire%2C321-sticker%2Csite%2Cpromotions%2C5941.html instead of : http://web.bons-de-reduction.com/annuaire,321-sticker,site,promotions,5941.html I check with Screaming Frog SEO and Xenu, I can't manage to find any encoded URL. Is anyone have a clue on how to fix that ? Thanks
