Hi David,
Unfortunately, there is a big ongoing issue right now with the upload time of photos. A lot of people are blogging about their frustration with this. I would recommend you use a friend or family member's Google+ account to do a user upload of a photo, as this apparently will be published faster at this time than the owner publish option will. Kind of silly, I know, but Google is aware that this is an issue going on.

Hi Miriam,
Looks like i still have same image displaying in Google maps, i did what you said,
i deleted the photos and uploaded new one that i want Google to display in the number one spot, its been close to 3 weeks. but the right image still isn't displaying.
here is the screen shot of Google places dashboard, you can see that first image , isn't what Google is displaying .

Hi Anatoliy,
It looks like you have a non-merged Google+ Local page (as opposed to a fully merged Google+ Local/Google+ Business Page). In most cases, this means that you will be editing your photos by logging into the old Places Dashboard, which still controls the backend of most Google+ Local pages. If I am correct that your listing is non-merged, you can go to this page:
https://plus.google.com/117400845160255741148/about?hl=en
(make sure you are signed into your Google account)
Then, click on the 'manage this page' button on the lower right side of the page. This will take you to a dashboard. At that point, you can choose to the edit button in the area labeled 'Your Businesss Info' in the right column.
That should take you to the completely editable dashboard where you should see your photos listed. You can then delete the photos and start over with a fresh one in the number 1 spot.
Hope this helps!

Hi Miriam
Where do i upload the image in my Google plus or Google places? so it would be first one in the line, its just so confusing,
thanks

Hello Scott,
1. Yes that is my listing https://maps.google.com/maps?cid=1552403007127876102
2. I can see the listing, and all my images are there, with the one i want to display as main image, which is the first one http://screencast.com/t/j0JK4PRnKv7o
3. Point of Interest looks right.
4. Yes that is my Google + page https://plus.google.com/117400845160255741148/
Thanks for help

Hi Anatoliy,
I am seeing this Google+ Local page for you:
https://plus.google.com/117400845160255741148/about?hl=en
Both in the main SERPs and as the circle image on your Google+ page, I see a photo of a woman getting a massage.
This photo is coming from here:
https://plus.google.com/117400845160255741148/photos?hl=en
Because this is the first photo in your lineup of photos, it is the one Google is using as your main photo. This seems to confuse many people. See:
So, if you want a different photo to appear, you need to put it first in the lineup. Be advised, however, that photo changes can take weeks to go into effect.
Hope this helps!

It looks like Google is showing the "Street View" map image instead of the image you uploaded.
So, this is your listing? https://maps.google.com/maps?cid=1552403007127876102
When you go here: http://www.google.com/local/add/ and log in with that account, do you see the listing? If so, that's where you'd edit the image.
I believe this is the Google Map Maker POI (Point of Interest) for that listing. Does that look right? http://www.google.com/mapmaker?gw=39&fid=0x89e37717ebe05e89:0xbc2be1f7aabc9ee5
And this is the Google + Page, right? https://plus.google.com/117400845160255741148/

Scoot,
Company name is " Novita Salon and Spa"
Thanks

What is the CID of your listing?
For example: http://www.orionweb.net/2012/03/20/gain-reviews-to-increase-your-google-places-listing-rank/ read the bottom of this post.
Also, what is the Name of the company? It's possible that you have more than one listing or perhaps Google is pulling in a photo from another authoritative website.

Not using alt tags for decorative images?

Why are my blog slideshow images not indexed?
I'm managing a design blog hosted on WordPress. Each "design project" article includes a slideshow with additional images (and captions) for the project - these are images and text not found in the article itself. Every slide has the same page path as the article, but a different query param at the end. So if the article is /article the first slide would be /article?slide=1 for example. I'm having two issues: The slideshow images don't seem to be getting indexed. Screaming Frog reports duplicate meta descriptions and title tags for each slideshow page (same meta as article). I want to do what's best overall from an SEO perspective. Having the slideshow images show in Google image search is a must. And having the captions indexed might help too? But I want the Google image results linking to the article and not the individual slideshow pages. And I don't want duplicate meta issues. What's the best thing to do? Submit a sitemap that lists both article and slideshow images? "Rel canonical" the param'd slideshow urls to the base article url (not sure this makes total sense, since slide content is different from the article)? Get rid of slideshow altogether and put images in body? Some combo of these? Hopefully this makes sense. Any thoughts appreciated!

Would you recommend changing image file names retroactively?
We'll be optimizing file names moving forward, but it hasn't been done in the past. I have probably 1,500 that would need to be changed, so want to make sure it's a valuable use of time/worth the effort. 🙂 Also, has anyone used Media File Renamer for wordpress? Seems this would be a good way to rename files without needing to reupload everything. Thanks!

Will background images get indexed?
Will images, loaded via css class, get indexed? For example something like : style="background-image: url(https://www.mysite.be/content/dam/homepage-mama.jpg/_jcr_content/renditions/cq5dam.web.2000.9999.jpeg);"

Reasons for store not showing up on Google?
Hi my client has a store which is not showing up on Google search results. E.g. if you looked up store name and store location on Google, all the stores in that particular city show up except one. Also even if you click the: More results near CITY, and State the stores listing still doesn't show up. So for some reason Google has excluded the store from Google search. But if you go to Google Maps directly, and type in the same keyword "STORE NAME CITY" the store is displayed and there. Does anyone know any reason why the store has been excluded from Google search results, but is listed successfully on Google Maps.

Google Places - Shared Office Space
Howdy, A client of mine has a shared office space, where several other businesses share the exact same address, including the same suite number. I realize that this is likely one of the biggest issues holding them back in local/blended search results in their market, which is a very competitive one. (They do have a completely unique local phone number.) They have tons of citations -- way more citations than anyone else at the same address -- so they are definitely the most visible. They are ranking pretty well -- top of page two in organic results (overall top 10 organic if you exclude the places results) and top of page 3 in places results for some select local search terms. But obviously top of page one as a blended result is where we want to be. They have a lot of great content, a lot of quality links and citations. Out of all the competitors ranking ahead of them, a few do indeed deserve to be there, but most do not -- i.e. they have lower DA, PA, worse links, fewer links, no content / shit content compared to my client, and some even have incomplete Google profiles. I really think this could be the sole issue holding my client back from appearing in blended results on page one. What should we do? If I convince them to change their address, we'll have to update thousands of citations, many of which we don't have access to. In reality, we would be able to update some, but not all citations. This also could cause a short term rankings decline, and/or Google Places limbo for who knows how long! Is it possible to overcome this problem if they keep the same address? In a less competitive market I would think it's quite possible, but I'm not so sure in this case. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Dynamic image serving SEO
We often use images from a dynamic image server, to cater for image asset management, multiple sizes etc. Similar to Adobe's Scene7, although that came out after we chose our product. So widgets.com may have all its images with a URL like myimageserver.com?src=widgets/catalogue/productname.jpg;width=100;height=100;angle=90, instead of widgets.com/images/productname.jpg. A potential client wants to capitalise on traffic from Google image search. We could build an image sitemap, listing the images on each page. What should we place in the image:loc field? The code: myimageserver.com?src=widgets/catalogue/productname.jpg;width=100;height=100;angle=90 Apparently we have to verify the hosting site in Webmaster Tools, but I can't see where. I have a single Webmaster Tools account, where most of our sites are defined. Would I have to verify it for each site using the dynamic imaging program? Love to hear from anyone with solutions for getting images indexed when they are hosted at third-party dynamic imaging programs.
