Alt tag matching product titles - e-commerce

Hey all,
Just wondering if it is ok to match the alt tag to product titles.
Imagine an e-commerce site that lists a whole lot of products on any one page for any one category.
Each product listing has a thumbnail image beside it.
The easiest way to implement this dynamically is to use the product title for the alt tag.
Anyone had any experience with this? Is it overkill / spam of keywords - given that the product title is repeated.
Our current situation is that our alt tags are simply blank or say 'photo' which is no good, and we have hundreds of thousands of pages.

Best answer. But at a granular product line level, Amazon use 'product details' for all their products.
Might try replicating each product title with each alt tag on one category - see how it goes.

Alt Tags Must be related to the products, it's just a way to tell search Engine crawlers about image..
I would recommend to use a good sense 3 to 5 words about images in ALT tags rather than just a keywords..

Just remember, Google doesn't like too long alternative text in images. Take advantage of the following two Firefox Browser add-ons: Senseo (you'll need Firebug first) and KGen. Then check the resulting keyword-density for important keywords. Maybe you'll need to provide a longer product description.

you mean a product name for each image, or all images on the page have the same alt text?
either would be better then none, but obviously better if they are unique.
This would not be seen as spam at all. (IMO)

If a human curator isn't possible (and it doesn't sound feasible for your site) then this is the next best thing. If it makes you nervous you could make the alt tag Photo of %title, but I don't think that is necessary. For example, Amazon uses the title as alt tag too.

Wordpress Tags and Catagories
I am looking for data in regards to Wordpress and blog tags and categories. Wordpress has these identifies in there tool, but I see them being used less and less. Wordpress also creates annoying pages and duplicate content errors when using tags. Should I remove these tags and categories to improve SEO? I am also wondering if anyone has noticed a difference in user experience and traffic when changing these.

Tags vs. Categories? What should I use?
I'm starting with a blog (self-hosted wordpress) and I'm thinking of the following content structure so that the readers are easily able to locate relevant content: Background: It's a blog which gives people relevant info about government jobs. To start with we will just be publishing information about these jobs but over a period of time also intend to post content that helps readers prepare for these jobs. In other words, right now it's just about detailed job notifications but in the coming months, we shall also post about preparation-related information. Typically, each of the job notifications can be bifurcated like: Jobs basis industry Banking Railways Clinical, etc. Jobs basis company ABC co. DEF co. XYZ co. etc. Jobs basis State / City City 1 City 2, etc. Jobs basis educational qualification Graduation Post-Graduation, etc. Now, I'm seriously confused how should I structure this data from the perspective of Categories & Tags such that it's reader as well as SEO-friendly. Do note that each of the government jobs post ideally falls in a couple of above mentioned categories. Thanks..

Duplicate product content/disclaimers for non-e-commerce sites
This is more a follow-up to Rand's recent Whiteboard "Handling User-Generated & Manufacturer-Required Duplicate Content Across Large Numbers of URLs." I posed my question in the comments, but unsure it will get picked up. My situation isn't exactly the same, but it's similar: Our site isn't an e-commerce site and doesn't have user reviews yet, but we do have maybe 8 pages across 2 product categories featuring very similar product features with duplicate verbiage. However, we don't want to re-write it because we want to make it easy for users to compare apples-to-apples to easily see which features are actually different. We also have to run disclaimers at the bottom of each page.\ Would i-framing the product descriptions and disclaimers be beneficial in this scenario, with the addition of good content? It would still be nice to have some crawlable content on those pages, so the i-framing makes me nervous unless we compensate with at least some above-the-fold, useful content that could be indexed. Alt and title tags on images
For SEO, are alt and title tags still worth the effort? Or have they gone the way of meta keywords? I can see having alt tags for visually impaired reasons, but at this point is there any SEO reason to use them?
