What is the best way to refresh a webpage of a news site, SEO wise?

Hello all,
we have a client which is a sports website. In fact it is a veyr big website and has a huge number of news per day.
This is mostly the reason why it refreshes some of its pages with news list every 420 seconds.
We currently use meta refresh. I have read here and elsewhere that meta refreshes should be avoided. But we don't do it to send to another page and pass any kind of page authority / juice.
Is in this case javascript refresh better? Is there any other better way.
What do you think & suggest?

I don't necessarily disagree with Eric's answer, but I wanted to answer from a different point of view. I'm going to assume you really want or need some refresh mechanism built into the page.
In which case I'd agree that a Javascript approach using AJAX is probably a better solution. It will mean that users only need to load the new article headlines, and not the whole page, so the strain on your servers should be reduced. Furthermore, I find it a neater solution all around anyway - you could provide a notice 'new headlines available' that people click to refresh the articles list. This might be the best of both worlds?
Either way, meta refresh isn't as flexible, isn't as clean, and will put more strain on your servers.

I don't understand why you believe you need to add a refresh on the page. Even though you are posting new content on the page, there is no need to refresh the page. Users will refresh the page themselves, or they will just come to the page and see the updated content. The search engines will naturally know that the site contains new content: they will see that you have added fresh content on the site (new news items) and will come back.
I would not include any sort of refresh on the page. You might include a message on the page to tell users to refresh the page for the latest content, but that's all I would do. I do not recommend any auto-refresh.

Our client's Magento website has been running for at least a decade, so has a lot of old legacy categories for Brands they no longer carry. Best way to link to multiple location pages
I am a Magician and have multiple location pages for each county I cover. I currently have them linked off the menu under locations/ <county>and also in the footer</county> However I have heard that a link from the page is much stronger, so I am experimenting with removing the Menu & Footer link and just linking to these pages from within the content. It's not really a navigation item and most people come in through search to the right page. Am I diluting the link by having it in the Menu/Page and Footer? Since it is possible to implement a description for SVGs it seems that it would be possible to use that for the site name. <desc>sitename</desc>
{{ STUFF }} There is also a title tag for SVGs. I’ve read in a thread from 2015 that sometimes it gets confused with the title tag in the header (at least by Moz crawler) which might cause trouble. What is state of the art here? Any experiences and/or case studies with using either method? <title>sitename</title>

Removing images from site and Image Sitemap SEO advice
Hello again, I have received an update request where they want me to remove images from this site (as of now its a bunch of thumbnails) current page design: http://1stimpressions.com/portfolio/car-wraps/ and turn it into a new design which utilized a slider (such as this): http://1stimpressions.com/portfolio/ They don't want the thumbnails on the page anymore. My question is since my site has a image sitemap that has been indexed will removing all the images hurt my SEO greatly? What would the recommended steps to take to reduce any SEO damage be, if so? How to create site map for large site (ecommerce type) that has 1000's if not 100,000 of pages.
I know this is kind of a newbie question but I am having an amazing amount of trouble creating a sitemap for our site Bestride.com. We just did a complete redesign (look and feel, functionality, the works) and now I am trying to create a site map. Most of the generators I have used "break" after reaching some number of pages. Internal vs external blog and best way to set up
I have a client that has two domians registered - one uses www.keywordaustralia.com the other uses www.keywordaelaide.com He had already bought and used the first domain when he came to me I suggested the second as being worth buying as going for a more local keyword would be more appropriate. Now I have suggested to him that a blog would be a worthy use of the second domain and a way to build links to his site - however I am reading that as all links will be from the same site it wont be worth much in the long run and an internal blog is better as it means updated content on his site. should i use the second domain for blog, or just 301 the second domain to his first domain. Or is it viable to use the second domain as the blog and just set up an rss feed on his page ? Is there a way to have the second domain somehow 'linked' to his first domain with the blog so that google sees them as connected ? NOOBIE o_0
