Your search - site:domain.com - did not match any documents.

I've recently started work on a new clients website and done some preliminary work with on-page optimisation, and there is still plenty of work to be done and issues to resolve. They are ranking ok on Bing, but they are not getting any ranking on Google at all (except paid) - I tried the site:domain.com search and comes up with no results... so this confirms that something is going on with the google search rank!
Can anyone shed light on what can cause this or why this would happen?
My next step is to look at their webmaster tools (haven't had access yet), but if anyone has any tips to resolve this or where to look, that would be great!
Thanks!

Thanks again for your help! I will give those ideas a go.
I hope to get to the bottom of it, if for nothing else than to learn more!
Cheers.

Hey,
It depends on the penalty, if any.
If you have no manual actions under the Webmaster Tools, that's a hint. However, it could be an algorithmic penalty.
If the penalty, again, if any, applies to the whole site, then changing the site's contents while making sure your entire site (backlinks too) is in compliance with Google's quality guidelines, then the penalty should be revoked.
If the issue is actually only the fact that Google can't access the site, then check why, fix that ASAP and you should be ranking again in no time (check using the fetch as Googlebot to make sure that is/isn't it first).
To sum up, you should run an extensive analysis on links, content, server responses errors and find the cause of the "penalty", then work on fixing it to start ranking. Once you do, you can continue with the other SEO/design tasks.
As I said before, opening a thread in Google's Webmaster Help forums could be of much help.
All the best!

Thanks again for all your helpful suggestions. Here's an update on this...
Access to GWT and analytics and some more Moz tracking have revealed some server connectivity and crawl errors on the site. So I'm thinking the bots are having trouble accessing the site and hence are penalising... Bing is sill ok strangely!
At this stage there is a hold on resolving this as we are also in the process of developing a new site for this client - so we plan to now just focus on getting this site live and hopefully all the crawl errors etc will be flushed out.
One last question - is a google penalty linked to a domain or the site/files? So if we launch a new site on the same domain, but new server (host), and new files, do you think this will clear any penalties?
Thanks again.

If all the pages are not indexed, then yes I would assume a penalty. One of the more common reseaons a site gets penalized is due to improper linking, either inbound or outbound in nature.
If you do not yet have access to webmaster tools, there are still steps you can take. This is something you are going to have to do anyway, once you figure out what the penalty was for.
First place to start: links.
There are a wide variety of backlink tools out there. Here are a few you can try:
http://raventools.com/marketing-tools/link-manager/
http://moz.com/researchtools/ose
https://ahrefs.com/Start looking for the spammy or paid links. How can you tell? Simple. If a link has a domain like rankmehighingoogle.com or something like that, chances are it's a bad or paid backlink. The example given is a silly domain name, but you will see some like that come up. If you are unsure of a links quality, manually visit the sites to see what they are all about. If the home page has a 0 or a ? for pagerank, chances are the linking site got hit with a penalty and you should disavow that linking domain.
Another way to test is to search for the linking domain in Google. If you search for a web directory site or linking domain specifially by their name and they are nowhere to be found, Google most likely hammered them for some practice they were using.
Since you dont have access to GWT yet, this would be a good way to see what is going on with this site. You stated that you just started doing the optimization for the client, so you most likely havent had time to research the domains history yet. Once you have access to GWT you will be taking a look at links anyway, so while you are waiting for access be proactive

Thank you Devanur. I will look into this.

Hi,
I 100% agree with FedeEinhorn.
roofrackworld.com.au seems penalized somewhere around November 2013 to December 2013.
Go here: http://www.barracuda-digital.co.uk/panguin-tool/
Give an offline access to the tool for your Google Analytics account. Select the date range from September 2013 till date. Look for any Google update related penalty.
Please post your observations here so that we can take it from there.
Best regards,
Devanur Rafi

Glad someone else thinks it is weird!
Thank you for your help and suggestions... I will get access to webmaster tools and see what I can find.
-
Holy... this IS weird.
Checked the robots.txt and there's nothing blocking the indexing, robots meta tags are present with INDEX.
You clearly need urgent access to Webmaster tools, seems like a penalty for pure spam or something like that, as there's no 1 single page indexed, while there are other sites linking to it.
What I would do? Before doing any further onsite SEO, get that resolved. Go to Webmaster tools and check any manual action, message, etc. Try the fetch as googlebot. Then go to Google's Webmaster forums and ask, usually someone from Google jumps in.

I was looking for more general advice on this issue initially, to see if others had encountered this problem. But happy to share domain if it helps... with the disclaimer as I mentioned above, that there is clearly much more work to be done to get a good rank - but this issues seems to be bigger than on-site optimisation...
Thanks

Anyone suspect that a site's total page count affects SEO?
I've been trying to find out the underlying reason why so many websites are ranked higher than mine despite seemingly having far worse links. I've spent a lot of time researching and have read through all the general advice about what could possibly be hurting my site's SEO, from page speed to h1 tags to broken links, and all the various on-page SEO optimization stuff....so the issue here isn't very obvious. From viewing all of my competitors, they seem to have a much higher number of web pages on their sites than mine does. My site currently has 20 pages or so and most of my competitors are well in the hundreds, so I'm wondering if this could potentially be part of the issue here. I know Google has never officially said that page number matters, but does anyone suspect that perhaps page count matters towards SEO and that competing sites with more total pages than you might have an advantage SEOwise?

How on earth is a site with ONE LINK ranking so well for a competitive keyword?
Ok, so I'm sure you get the gist of what I'm asking about in my question. The query is 'diy kitchens' in Google UK and the website is kitchens4diy[dot]com - which is ranking in third from my viewing. The thing is, the site has just ONE BACKLINK and has done for a good while. Yet, it's ranking really well. What gives?

Transfering newly created targeted landing pages on an existing domain to a new domain
Hi - Hope someone can help me with this please I have a question regarding if its possible or advisable to create and host targeted landing pages and a blog on an existing domain, and then move these pages only to a brand new domain? The existing site has good authority and is established. Due to tight timescales in delivery I suggested creating specific landing pages and installing a blog to build authority and trust over time to target completely new keywords. Also the new pages will be helped by the existing domain authority. I've just found out client may want a whole new site, complete with new branding etc and completely new domain in time. Has anyone experienced migrating specific pages and a blog across to a completely new domain and leaving the existing site as it was. I have a whole host of concerns over this, but the main one is that I will be building relationships and content to landing pages and the blog, aswell as linking out etc and then these URL's will have a re-direct on them, going to a completely new domain.

Also, the existing domain could lose any authority gained as although I wont only be targeting these pages, these will be the main ones being optimised and this will look unnatural. Do I? A./ Create blog and new landing pages on existing domain eg - www.testing.com/blog
www.testing.com/new-landing-pages, and then migrate these across to a brand new domain. or B./ Create the new landing pages and blog and leave them on the existing domain - period? Concerns here;
Client wants to re-vamp and have a new style and these pages will not necessarily be supported by the existing site, there is no guarantee that we are even allowed to create new pages, let alone internal linking. or C./ Bite the bullet and simply suggest a brand new domain to start with and explain the timescales and its either complete new domain or work on existing one. If anybody else has any other ideas I would really appreciate them. The client is re-branding and the company who host the existing domain, might not want to support the new pages and blog. I was hoping to provide a short term and long term solution as a brand new domain will take time to build up, especially as they are also brand new keywords we are targeting. However, I dont want the existing domain to be hit with any penalties or flag anything un-natural to Google. Many thanks in advance for any advice.. Tracey0 -
Active Domain Resale?
Hi, Someone I know has just been offered a domain name by http://activedomainresale.com/. Is anyone familiar with this company? They're offering the non-hyphenated domain name (the person I know has the same domain name except with a hyphen) for a one-time fee of $49, payable through paypal or a credit card. When we contacted customer support by email (they did respond quickly), the email came from a different domain - directpremiumdomains.com. Has anyone had any experience with this? If it's legit, it seems like it could be a good opportunity to get the non-hyphenated URL but I'm concerned that it might be a scam. Thanks in advance! Carolina

Large number of thin content pages indexed, affect overall site performance?
Hello Community, Question on negative impact of many virtually identical calendar pages indexed. We have a site that is a b2b software product. There are about 150 product-related pages, and another 1,200 or so short articles on industry related topics. In addition, we recently (~4 months ago) had Google index a large number of calendar pages used for webinar schedules. This boosted the indexed pages number shown in Webmaster tools to about 54,000. Since then, we "no-followed" the links on the calendar pages that allow you to view future months, and added "no-index" meta tags to all future month pages (beyond 6 months out). Our number of pages indexed value seems to be dropping, and is now down to 26,000. When you look at Google's report showing pages appearing in response to search queries, a more normal 890 pages appear. Very few calendar pages show up in this report. So, the question that has been raised is: Does a large number of pages in a search index with very thin content (basically blank calendar months) hurt the overall site? One person at the company said that because Panda/Penguin targeted thin-content sites that these pages would cause the performance of this site to drop as well. Thanks for your feedback. Chris

How do I rank multiple pages for my busness/domain name?
When someone searches for our business's name (which is also the domain name) we have one listing (with sitelinks) at the top - however I would also like to rank 2nd, 3rd and 4th for this term. Any suggestions on how this might be done? Thanks.

New Search Engine.... Vanoogle.com
I'd like to see google start a new search engine. They might call it Vanoogle.com (Vanilla Google). This search engine would not be stinked up with social data, freshness inclusions, crap from my last query, skewed based upon my IP, warped because of my browser, targeted because of my cookies, no personalization, no image results, product results, none of that stuff. Ads are OK if labeled. I just want a plain vanilla search. Something that I know is "clean". Just like the good olde days. Millions of people will start using it right away. 🙂 Would you use Vanoogle.com?

Test contet/pages indexed by search engines
During the web development stages of our Joomla CMS website, we have managed to get our site indexed for totally irrelevant test pages mainly to do with Joomla and some other equally irrelevant test content. How damaging is this to our domain from an SEO prospective and is there something we can do about it? When we do a site:domain.com search we see hundreds of testpages with test/irrelevant meta tags etc.
