WP Datar site shady linking to my site

Hello,
I have done some research on this but cannot find a solid answer to my question. After recently reviewing my "not found" errors in webmaster tools, I see that a site called "WP Datar" has linked to a number of our pages that actually do not exist. I am wondering first, if this will harm our site, and second, what is the best way to get those links from their site taken down? I tried emailing, but of course, the email address listed on the site did not work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thanks!

Hi,
Just to confirm, this is for the disavow file, which is a .txt file.
You can use what I have there, but just remember to change the bits with the dates in. You are also correct that over 200,000 is probably not a good thing. I would suspect that many links are the result of being added to a large number of sites, who list you on many pages / sitewide links.

also, one of our clients has 212,113 links pointing to our site. This is bad correct? and how could this be?

Hi,
It is always good in these cases, to err on the side of caution. It shouldn't harm your site, but to be safe, disavow the site through Webmaster Tools. Just remember to add a note to the file to explain that you have been in touch asking the site to remove the links, but they have not responded.
If you haven't disavowed a site before, copy this into a .txt file:
# The following site was contacted on <date>requesting removal of links. No reply was ever received and links remain.</date>
# Correct as of<todays date=""></todays>domain:wpdatar.com

Value / Risk of links in comments (nofollow)
Recently I noticed a couple of comments on our blog that seemed nice and relevant so I approved them. The site is wordpress and comments are configured nofollow. We don't get many comments so I thought "why not?". Today I got one and noticed they are all coming from the same IP. They all include urls to sites in the same industry as us, relevant sites and all different. Looks like an SEO is doing it for various clients. My question is what is the value of these nofollow links for the poster? Are these seen as "mentions" and add value to Google? And am I better off trashing them so my site is not associated? Thanks

Algorithmically penalized site
I have been doing SEO for years, but luckily have never had a client penalized or had to go through that. Â I see everyone talking about it at conferences and know the absolute basics of recovery, but just had someone come to me that was algorithmically penalized about two years ago. Â They have no actual data to show me a date and they couldn't tell me a specific date. Â According to them, their SEO disappeared and wouldn't give them access to the analytics. Â They are definitely showing just about every red flag with anchor tags and low trust links and tons of duplicate content. Â Just about everything. Â I realize you don't have the deep data to go by, but are there cases when it is just better to start over from scratch. They have literally thousands of bad links and strange site pages that they say they weren't even aware of. Whether they were or not I guess isn't the point now, but I have heard rumors that if you start over, Google will still figure it out and follow you with the penalty. Â Is this true or documented? Â Don't want to potentially recommend that if that is something that generally happens to bad offenders. Â Happy to do the work and try to resolve their issues, but it is a lot of work and is going to be expensive and want to present other options. Â Thanks and any thoughts suggestions are appreciated.

Is this negative SEO? Should I disavow these links?
We have been doing our own internal link building for the last year and getting nice backlinks. Â As of the last few days, ahrefs is showing a lot of new links that seem very spammy. Â We have not hired anyone to do link building for us, and these are all being created on these sites under the same user name. Â There is a good amount of them popping up, and I fear we will be subjected to a google pentalty for unnatural links if its not addressed. My first question is, am I correct thinking this is negative seo, and not some random sites that picked up our content and is going across their affiliate websites? If so, then should I preemptively disavow all these links? Â Are there any good ways to stop this? How can I track who is placing these garbage links? Here are some examples of these bad links. I know I can find the webmaster via a whois but I think that really wont get me anywhere, but I could be wrong. I am looking at a site offering different language options via a javascript drop down chooser. Will google flag this as duplicate content? Should I recommend the purchase of individual domains for each country? i.e. .uk

Hiding content or links in responsive design
Hi, I found a lot of information about responsive design and SEO, mostly theories no real experiment and I'd like to find a clear answer if someone tested that. Google says:Â

Is it still considered reciprocal linking if one of the links has a nofollow tag?
I have a popular website in which I include nofollow links to many local businesses, like restaurants and retailers. Many of the businesses are local startups that are more focused on word of mouth and often have no idea what SEO is. Seeing as I am already mentioning them on my website and my readers are finding them via the links, I want to reach out to these businesses to see me if they might give me a link since I have been linking to them for years. My question is: If these business owners decide to link to my wesbite and they give me a 'followed' link, will this look like reciprocal linking in the eyes of search engines? In other words, does the nofollow tag I put on my links to other businesses negate the reciprocal link penalty since both parties are not benefiting from a link juice exchange?
