Email before Download or Not?
-
I'm designing an exhibition stand at the moment and am going to be putting QR codes that link to a technical specification on the products.
The question is - do I just allow them to download the pdf or do I ask for a name and email address before they can do that.
As its an exhibition stand I should get the business cards anyway - but to know exactly what products each person is interested in would help
I'm not sure how many people use QR codes in Asia, have a QR code readers..... and would adding the email request just be too much?
Whats your opinion?
The product is an industrial one and mainly engineers and procurement types from the oil and gas industry will be visiting the stand.

Personally I wouldn’t put barriers in the way of a download, however I'm sure you will get a lot of debate about that one and at the end of the day it's what you consider to be of more value, the fact that the pdf is being downloaded or you have the information from the people who then know your going to contact them after a download.
Either way I would use a combo of QR code / printed shortlink and include analytic tracking data. Then if you do chose to collect email data first you can measure the conversion from who went to the data entry page from your exhibition any how many email addresses you collected ie:
In htaccess:
#Product 1 QR code (have your QR code point to http://www.domain.com/qr-p1)
Redirect 302 /qr-p1 http://www.domain.com/shop/product_one/doc.pdf?utm_campaign=Exhibition&utm_medium=QR Code&utm_source=Banner Stand&utm_content=ProductOnePDF
#Product 1 Short code (print your short code as to www.domain.com/widgets)
Redirect 302 /widgets http://www.domain.com/shop/product_one/doc.pdf?utm_campaign=Exhibition&utm_medium=Short Code&utm_source=Banner Stand&utm_content=ProductOnePDF

I personally would ask for a name and email address, as this is common practice online and it will allow you to know what each person is specifically interested in as you say. I don't think that is too much information and the data gathered would be valuable. In my experience this won't put people off and if it does are they really that interested in your product in the first place - I think you a separating the wheat from the chaff that way!
In terms of QR codes and their use in Asia you may find this article about China's use of them useful - http://techcrunch.com/2013/05/29/people-actually-use-qr-codes-in-china/

Best Day of Week & Best Time of Day for B+B Email
For business to business email, should we avoid sending on Mondays and Fridays? The nature of the service is commercial real estate brokerage for office space in New York City. We are mailing to corporate decision makers in various industries (technology, finance, law). Should we avoid mailing during certain times of day? Or is there a best time of day to send the email. Thanks,

Email Campaign Tracking within Domain & Subdomains
What is the best process to track conversions/visits in Google Analytics when running an email campaign that links to both a sub-domain and then the main domain? To elaborate further, we have an email marketing campaign that directs users to a subdomain (e.g. promos.website.com) within the subdomain we include our products. Once a user clicks on the promos, they are taken to our main website (e.g website.product1.com). What is the best process to track conversions from this email campaign that leads users to the sub-domain first, then to the main site (where the conversions take place)? We have URL tagging in the Email Campaign - but not able to see the true conversions show up in Analytics on the main site. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

How would you encourage phone calls rather than email enquiries?
Just that really - we're getting on average around 80% online enquiries, and 15% calls. Calls convert better so would prefer calls. What steps would you put in place to increase calls? Ours is a lead generation site - we're a mortgage broker. So far we have a click to call button on the quote page which loads on mobile devices and doesn't display when the call centre is shut. We get traffic from organic and PPC. I'm trying to come up with a bit of a plan to address this. Thanks, Amelia

How to track conversions from a third party email campaign?
Heyy.. New to the Moz community, first question so here goes! I'm going to be running an email campaign with an e-magazine and I want to know how to track conversions from the email they're sending out so I can monitor success/failure. I've found Google's URL builder:

Is putting an email address in the page title a good idea?
As our Contact Us page title was a little short I added in sales@example.com So "Contact us : Sales@example.com" We don't get a lot of spam and it hasn't noticeable increased since we did this. Tynt suggests that a reasonable number of people have copied and pasted the email - presumably to contact us Is it worth experimenting with further or a waste of time?

Time spent downloading a page increased drasticly
Hi Guys, We have found increased "Time spend downloading a page" drastically. Our website: www.learnenglishindublin.com Our company is located in Ireland, so we moved our servers from US to Ireland at the beginning of December. Also before increasing 'Time spend downloading a page" I did: I have installed plugins JCH Optimize (plugin is optimizing CSS and Javascripts [merging them]) I have installed ScriptsDown - which is moving all scripts to bottom of site. Pingdom tools shows that site is loading average of 2.7 secs. Pages are cached. Gzip is used. Our SEO rankings dropped from 1 page to 2 page. We have gone up in Google Maps search. Image sizes are about 1.7MB Any idea how things have actually gotten worse after this “improvement”? Thanks, Olivia increased.jpg
