Bounce rate vs main domain and subdomain
-
So there is a website www.domainname.com that is based on wordpress. Basically this site has 8-10 pages but it is not a blog. And it has a subdomain mystore.domainname.com which is based on magento. While developing the site the circumstances were such that we had to use a subdomain for ecommerce based on magento.
So the wp site is ranking and people are landing on that site. It makes sense when it has a bounce rate of around 72% because people are actually going to the subdomain ( store ) after they land on the wp site. Because they are actually looking to buy.
My question is will this bounce rate affect in ranking of the wp site ? Because for now only the wp site is ranking for most of the terms. Should i consider removing the wp site and have the whole site based on magento ?
I appreciate any kind of feedback and suggestion

Hi,
Did you properly configure your Analytics - normally someone who goes from the main site to the subdomain should not be measured as a bounced visit. If you are using Google Analytics, you can find here how you should change your trackingcode (if you use the async version) - here if you use Universal Analytics.
As google is not using your analytics tool to determine the bounce rate but uses it's own sources, this will have no impact on your rankings.
Apart from this issue, in general it is better to have everything on the main domain. You could check this presentation of Rand on this topic. You should check with your technical people if it wouldn't be possible to move the Magento to a directory of the main domain.
Plenty of sites are using different technology on different parts of the server, without it being visible to the visitors. As long as the user experience is not affected this should not be a problem - so there is no reason to put everything on one technical platform.
rgds,
Dirk

Using Anchor Link in the Main Navigation
Has anyone ever used anchor links as a drop-down in a sub-collection from the main navigation and does it have any negative impact on link equity? My client has large product collections and sub-collections, these are then separated into further subsections which are open within the same page (see attached). What I want to do ideally is in the main navigation feature 'Mad Hatter Costumes and Accessories'. This will obviously have a # in the URL though and I am was wondering if this might hurt the chance of the page ranking? If anyone has any experience in this it would be really helpful!! Thanks in advance 🙂 m5Qd5VO

Will Landing Page Design with Large Areas of White Background Enjoy a Higher Conversion Rate?
My designer has created a landing page with a dark background. Text is white and other colors. Does a dark background impact the conversion rate? Is it better to have a white background? I am concerned that a dark background may distract visitors. The landing page is: http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/MidtownLawOfficeSublet3300SFBelowMarket We plan on using this landing page for LinkedIn advertising. Thanks!!

Grid view vs. List view
Hi I work on an ecommerce site and wondered if anyone had tested grid view vs. list view on product listing pages? We use list view, but I think grid view might work better. Thanks

What is the Average Pogo Rate?
I've created a custom Google Segment which you can find here. Segment Settings: Organic Traffic Sessions with 1 visit. Sessions with less than 15 seconds time on site. To calculate Pogo rate then I looked at Pogo vs. Total organic and got the percentage of Pogo sessions. I tested a group of 20 sites and got 53% on average with a high of 87% and a low of 33%. What do you get? Any interesting insights?

How Do you Reduce Bounce Rates?
I'm doing work for a website right now that sells musical instruments. They have great content on their site but we're helping them to create even better content. We've been working with them for 2 weeks now and they average about 180 site views a day according to Google analytics. Their pages also have very high bounce rates (70-98%) What are your best ways to reduce bounce rates?

A very pertinent .me TLD vs. a longer, less pertinent .com domain?
Hey folks, John here, first-time poster. I have a dilemma I suspect you folks have already have an opinion on, but I'm a bit stuck. I think i have two basic options for choosing a domain name with the format of : 1. I can nab a .me with a very smooth, brandable, and pertinent/convertible and memorable domain name; 2. I can get a more obtuse sounding, less pertinent, lengthy, and less memorable .com domain. This issue is getting the click in the SERP. Assuming the same ranking and meta description, will the smooth .me suffer worse than the rather awkward and long .com? Is it your opinion that all other things remaining equal, will a .me suffer demonstrably over a .com Also, I'm not terribly concerned with folks remembering its a .me or a .com for search purposes, but should i be concerned for email purposes? Many thanks for your input!!

Any idea why my bounce rate could be so high?
Hello Everyone, I'm stumped. My primary website has a horrendous bounce rate of around 75% My domain is www.radicalmarketingsolutions.com My home page has a bounce rate of around 68%. The funny thing is, I have a page on Google Analytics basics for small business owners that is my 3rd top page for content, I have an average time on page of over 3 minutes yet my bounce rate is 90%. I have another page on how to depersonalize your google searches in Chrome and Firefox that is a top page with a time on page over 5 minutes and this page has a bounce rate of 96%! I felt that my old design was really hurting me so I changed the design in the beginning of this month and it does not look like it's helped much. I really simplified the site, created a lot more white space and added some links to my other important pages in hopes to get more click throughs. I would really love some honest "constructive" feed back on my site as to why the bounce rate could be so high. I have a ton of content on my blog and I get a lot of positive feedback. One thing I did not do was exclude my IP from Analytics so I could be influencing the numbers. I've added this filter and hoping this will help. Another issue is I do email my list with each new blog post. This could mean those folks visit the post and then leave without reading anything else on my blog. So this could be hurting me as well. Would love your suggestions. Thanks, Bill Parlaman
