      Hello Mozers!

I have a website with organic visits/goals on www.site.com and a few AdWords Campaign landing pages on lp.site.com whose goals are tracked with both adwords conversion monitoring AND analytics (not imported from analytics into Adword).

The landing pages of the campaign have nothing to do with the web site (different cms, they don't link each other, totally isolated) and viceversa.

Given that, what would it be the best practice to configure Google Analytics to track the website (www.site.com) AND a PPC campagin (lp.site.com)?

I have been told to set up different views of the same property, but do I really need that?

Please let me know what are you thinking.

      Thank you very much.

        Hi D.R.

To answer question 3, I just realized I sent you Classic GA setup - my apologies. Here is more information on how to set these up:
Cross Domain Tracking - Web Tracking (analytics.js)
Set up cross domain tracking Cross Domain Tracking (Google Tag Manager)

        To answer your questions:
1.) Yes, you can do that. Or you can break it down by hostname as well in your GA data if you don't want to create multiple views.

2.) I would keep it under the same property. It makes it easier to consolidate your data and you're not clicking back and forth.

        Hope this helps! Good luck!

Thank you for your kind answers.

Just to make sure I understand i have three  more questions:

          1. should I set the analytics property on domain.com then set a view pointing to lp.domain.com AND a view pointing to www.domain.com, having both properly filtered ?

          2. At the moment I have the UA property set on lp.domain.com: wouldn't it be good as well to create a new property for www.domain.com (rather than two child views of the same parent Analytics property ? I guess this way I wouldn't need filtering.

          3. By the way I omitted to tell that I am using Universal Analytics: will the references you provided still be applyable to me?

In the mean time I'll figure out how to actually do the filter and to make sure that this procedure is directly suitable with a Wordpress Plugin called Yoast Analytics, cause I am not sure I can edit the analytics code directly.

          Thank you all again.

          D.R.

Like Patrick already mentioned, what you could do is create a new view which is filtered based on the hostname. This should allow you to make sure you'll only have the data for lp.example.com in there.

              Hi there

Google has resources on this - check out Tracking Multiple Domains - Web Tracking (ga.js).

Also, Moz has a great resource called How to Quickly (and Correctly) Track Google Analytics Across Multiple Domains.

              Hope these help! Good luck!

Top of funnel google ads campaign not hardly converting, why?

Hi, I really hope someone can help me with this.  I'm running two search ad campaigns and a google shopping campaign in google ads. The search campaigns are targeting top-of-funnel keywords as the business doesn't have universally known collections which everyone would search for so they are just unique to my business.  So the campaigns are driving traffic but really converting whereas google shopping is converting because searchers are looking for particular products so they're lower down the funnel closer to aking a purchase decision. I feel I've optimised the campaign well and for the most part, most keywords have 7/10 quality score. The landing page seems fine. However, our offering wasn't as strong as competitors so we've offered a discount the same as them to compete. Since I started google ads we have nearly doubled our monthly revenue and the product types targeted in campaigns have increased in quantity sold so it seems it's having an effect but the campaigns aren't showing a good performance. Does anyone have any suggestions or input that could help me? I looked at first interaction attribution model and even there it's not performing well which makes this even more difficult to resolve. I'm thinking I should enable USER id feature in Google analytics so i can track signed in users across devices which may then help attribute sales to paid search channel as I saw in search console that the keyword that generates the most traffic to the site is our brand name and we're not a well-known brand so makes me think they may be starting their buyer's journey on a work computer on their mobile and finishing on their computer at home as an example.  However, I don't believe this will be the main cause or solution as I would only have data for signed in users which still won't give me the full picture. Also if the campaign is optimised effectively but conversions are minimal could not having many conversions affect quality score? If someone can help or provide me with a different perspective it would be much appreciated. Please let me know if I need to clarify or explain further. I hope I've made myself clear. Thanks, T

304 "If Modified Header" Triggers Error in Google Ads?

We have a client who is launch some Google Ads campaigns, and they recently asked us to fix 304 "Errors" on their website as per this feedback: "When we inspected the website we came across a number of 304 status errors. In order to get the ads running, we will need all of the website domain status codes converted to 200. “ Of course, all of their website pages return a 200 Status, it's just the HTTP headers that additionally clarify with a 304 Response (not an error). Has anyone else ever run into this issue with Google Ads? IMHO it makes no sense to remove this functionality. Google has even recommended in the past to use this it: https://webmasters.googleblog.com/2008/11/date-with-googlebot-part-ii-http-status.html Thanks for any tips or feedback!

How do you guys deal with product description and titles in PLA for different variation products?

                Hello guys!
I have to say that I have been browsing, reading, learning and so on Moz for a long time now, and when I had a question to ask I was scared of askings so I don't look stupid but since I've asked my first question a few weeks ago and got a really helpful answer that helped me to no longer think like that. Therefore here is my question: What is the best way of writing product description and titles on Google PLA for product variation? Let's say you have a rope for example which come in different diameter and colour. Right... The title yes it should include variation such as Brand Size Model Colour Other Attributes on each individual product title but the question is .. does to description has to be different for each product so that you also include the attributes for the given product variation? I hope someone out there will understand my question and come up with a good answer. Thank you!

PPC sessions being counted as organic in GA

I am coming across a very frustrating phenomenon in one of my PPC campaign reporting. In short: I believe that GA is counting some of my PPC sessions as organic (not provided). Has anybody come across this before? I believe they are being counted as organic because of the following: the website is brand new and does not rank for anything but their branded terms the few keywords showing up in GA are the terms we target our PPC towards the amount of sessions of Paid Search (in channels) and  AdWords sessions don't match up (The number of actual PPC clicks is substantially higher than the Paid Search sessions) PPC clicks and sessions don't even match up in the AdWords part of GA GWT shows 0% CTR for any non branded terms Tell me I am crazy, but I really don't think I am. I just don't have the hard evidence to back it up. Any help is greatly appreciated.

                PPC for Luxury Goods Website

Hi Mozzers, I am starting a PPC campaign for a website that sells high-end products. The search volume for the generics is very high but I think the conversion rate on those will be quite low given the price of the products. Does anyone have any experience in doing PPC for high-end retailers and what type of keyword I should be bidding on? Thanks!

How long does it ramp up a PPC campaign?

I was speaking to a SEO the other day.  He is going to be working on an ecommerce site soon.  I was suggesting that he might want to augment his SEO efforts with PPC in order to be able to show some results in the near term, as it would most likely take some time for his SEO work to be showing results. His response was that while he hasn't utilized them as much, he's found that it can take 3-6 months to get a PPC campaign to really make money.  I'm just curious if you guys feel that this is an accurate statement?

Can I dynamically add city name to my PPC ad text and URL based on the user's search?

I have looked into DKI (Dynamic Keyword Insertion), but have not found a solution and thought that some excellent Mozzer might be able to help.  Here is the idea: We have landing pages for hundreds of cities.  The local content on each of these cities changes page to page, however the keywords that we are going after are the same.  So, I am trying to create a dynamic ad group that looks something like this: Headline: {City Name} {Keyword} Description: We cover {City Name} {Keyword}, get more info now! URL: http://www.website.com/{City Name} Please let me know if you can assist with this, B

Does anybody know of a good bulk import http response checker? The one I was using has disappeared and I can only find checkers that only take one URL at a time.

An example of something I'm looking for but I want to check multiple checkers: http://web-sniffer.net/
