Sitelinks Issue - Different Languages
-
Hey folks,
We run different ccTLD's for revolveclothing.com (revolveclothing.es, revolveclothing.com.br, etc. etc.) and they all have their own WMT/Google Console with their own href lang tags etc.
The problem is this.
https://www.google.fr/#q=revolve+clothing
When you look at the sitelinks, you'll see that one of them (sales page) happens to be in Portuguese on the French site. Can anyone investigate and see why?

The Dirk answer points to some potential answers.
Said that, when I click on your SERP's link, I see others sitelinks (just two):
- the first >>> Robes
- the second >>> Вся распродажа.
As Dirk pointed out, your site has detected my IP (quite surely, but maybe it is user agent), and when I click on the second sitelink I see this url: http://www.revolveclothing.es/r/Brands.jsp?aliasURL=sale/all-sale-items/br/54cc7b&&n=s&s=d&c=All+Sale+Items.
The biggest problem, when it comes to IP redirections, is that they are a big problem in terms both of SEO and usability:
- SEO, because googlebot (and others bots) will mostly be redirected to the USA version due to their IPs, even though Google crawls site also from datacenters present in other country (but much less);
- Users, because you are making impossible, for instance, to a Spanish user to see the Spanish site whenever they are not in Spain. And that really sucks and pisses off users.
There's a solution:
-
making the IP redirection just the first time someone click on a link to your site and if that link is not corresponding to the version of the country from were users and bots are clicking;
-
presenting the links to the others country versions of your site, so that:
-
bots will follow those links and discover those versions (but not being redirected again);
-
users are free to go to the version of your site they really need (but not being redirected again if coming from those country selector links).
Said that, it would be better using a system like the one Amazon uses, which consists not forcing a redirection because of IP, but detecting it and launching an alert on-screen, something like: "We see that you are visiting us from [Country X]. Maybe you will prefer visiting [url to user's country site]".
Then, i just checked the hreflang implementation, and it seems it was implemented correctly (at least after a very fast review with Flang).
I tried to search for "Resolve clothing" in Spain incognito and not personalized search, and it shows me the Spanish website and Spanish sitelinks correctly;
I tried the same search from Spain but letting Google consider my user-agent (setup for English in search), and I saw the .com version and English sitelinks (which is fine).
Remember, sitelinks are decided by Goggle and we can only demote them.
To conclude, I think the real reason has to be searched not in a real international SEO issue (but check out the IP redirection), but to a possible and more general indexation problem.

If you look at the results on Google fr - I find it more surprising that apart from the first result - all the other results that are shown are coming from the .com version rather than the .fr version. If I search for Revolve cloathing on google.pt - I only get the US results & instagram.
You seem to use a system of ip detection - if you visit the French site from an American ip address you are redirect to the .com version (at least for the desktop version) - check this screenshot from the French site taken with a American ip address: http://www.webpagetest.org/screen_shot.php?test=150930_BN_1DSQ&run=1&cached=0 => this is clearly the US version. Remember that the main googlebot is surfing from a Californian ip - so he will mainly see the US version - there are bots that visit with other ip's but they don't guarantee that these visit with the same frequency & same depth (https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/6144055?hl=en). This could be the reason of your problem.
On top of that - your HTML is huge - the example page you mention has 13038 lines of HTML code and takes ages to load ( 16sec - http://www.webpagetest.org/result/150930_VJ_1KRP/ ). Size is a whopping 6000KB. Speed score for Google : 39%. You might want to look to that.
Hope this helps,
Dirk

Why are Google SERP Sitelinks "Not Working?"
Hi, I'm hoping someone can provide some insight. I Google searched "citizenpath" recently and found that all of our our sitelinks have identical text. The text seems to come from the site footer. It isn't using the meta descriptions (we definitely have) or even a Google-dictated snippet from the page. I understand we don't have "control" of this. It's also worth mentioning that if you search a specific page like "contact us citizenpath" you'll get a more appropriate excerpt. Can you help us understand what is happening? This isn't helpful for Google users or CitizenPath. Did the Google algorithm go awry or is there a technical error on our site? We use up-to-date versions of Wordpress and Yoast SEO. Thanks! search.png

Regional Sitelinks
We are a global brand & have each regional site setup as a sub-domain. au.mybrand.com

eu.mybrand.com
us.mybrand.com I have noticed for branded searches in Australia the SERP is showing the regional site (au.mybrand.com) as the first listing = great BUT the sitelinks below are showing for the USA site us.mybrand.com = incorrect Any ideas how to resolve by marking up the code or in Search Console? Historic issue with incomplete indexing
Hi there We run quite a big site in the UK in the commercial real-estate space. Historically we have always had a challenge getting our "primary" landing pages indexed, which are location based property result pages. e.g. https://realla.co/to-rent/commercial-property/oxford For example, for the "towns" category we have 8,549 submitted in our xml sitemap, with only 3,171 indexed. This is a general issue across all our sitemaps. 120k submitted, 80k indexed. Our pages are linked through breadcrumbs, and nearby links. In the new search console these pages are reported as "crawled - currently not indexed" These all sit under the folder: site:https://realla.co/to-rent/commercial-property/* site:https://realla.co/to-rent/office/* We have done extensive work to optimise performance, including AMP pages. Each location page has many details pages for individual properties e.g. https://realla.co/to-rent/details/0ffbbd0a1a1147edb8847c5ce6179509 One action we have remaining is to nest the details under the locations pages, which may help. These details pages are indexed fully. Any feedback much appreciated

Issue with GA tracking and Native AMP
Hi everyone, We recently pushed a new version of our site (winefolly.com), which is completely AMP native on WordPress (using the official AMP for WordPress plugin). As part of the update, we also switched over to https. In hindsight we probably should have pushed the AMP version and HTTPS changes in separate updates. As a result of the update, the traffic in GA has dropped significantly despite the tracking code being added properly. I'm also having a hard time getting the previous views in GA working properly. The three views are: Sitewide (shop.winefolly.com and winefolly.com) Content only (winefolly.com) Shop only (shop.winefolly.com) The sitewide view seems to be working, though it's hard to know for sure, as the traffic seems pretty low (like 10 users at any given time) and I think that it's more that it's just picking up the shop traffic. The content only view shows maybe one or two users and often none at all. I tried a bunch of different filters to only track to the main sites content views, but in one instance the filter would work, then half an hour later it would revert to no traffic. The filter is set to custom > exclude > request uri with the following regex pattern: ^shop.winefolly.com$|^checkout.shopify.com$|/products/.|/account/.|/checkout/.|/collections/.|./orders/.|/cart|/account|/pages/.|/poll/.|/?mc_cid=.|/profile?.|/?u=.|/webstore/. Testing the filter it strips out anything not related to the main sites content, but when I save the filter and view the updated results, the changes aren't reflected. I did read that there is a delay in the filters being applied and only a subset of the available data is used, but I just want to be sure I'm adding the filters correctly. I also tried setting the filter to predefined, exclude host equal to shop.winefolly.com, but that didn't work either. The shop view seems to be working, but the tracking code is added via Shopify, so it makes sense that it would continue working as before. The first thing I noticed when I checked the views is that they were still set to http, so I updated the urls to https. I then checked the GA tracking code (which is added as a json object in the Analytics setting in the WordPress plugin. Unfortunately, while GA seems to be recording traffic, none of the GA validators seem to pickup the AMP tracking code (adding using the amp-analytics tag), despite the json being confirmed as valid by the plugin. This morning I decided to try a different approach and add the tracking code via Googles Tag Manager, as well as adding the new https domain to the Google Search Console, but alas no change. I spent the whole day yesterday reading every post I could on the topic, but was not able to find any a solution, so I'm really hoping someone on Moz will be able to shed some light as to what I'm doing wrong. Any suggestions or input would be very much appreciated. Cheers,

Dynamically serving different HTML on the same URL
Dear Mozers, We are creating a mobile version for a real estate website. We are planning to dynamically serve different HTML on same URL. I'm a little confused about the on-page optimization for the mobile version. The desktop version pages has lot of text content and I strongly believe that made us ranking for various keywords. Now if I'm creating this mobile version do I need to serve all the same exact text content on the mobile version too? I found zillow.com using the same method, their desktop version has lot of text content and mobile version is clean without any text. Does this affect the sites SEO anyway? Please help, share your thoughts. RIyas

Squarespace Duplicate Content Issues
My site is built through squarespace and when I ran the campaign in SEOmoz...its come up with all these errors saying duplicate content and duplicate page title for my blog portion. I've heard that canonical tags help with this but with squarespace its hard to add code to page level...only site wide is possible. Was curious if there's someone experienced in squarespace and SEO out there that can give some suggestions on how to resolve this problem? thanks

Google Sitelinks
We have an e-commerce site that has about 50k pageviews of our main shop page every week. However in our Google sitelinks we have one for 'Shop'. However, for the Shop sitelink Google is linking to a random URL that we have never & would never use as a URL and not to our Shop page. I can't work out why Google would pick up this random url as we have so many links etc to the main shop page. Why are they not linking to the right page? I have blocked that url in webmaster tools and done a redirect but I want to understand why it happened in the first place. It included 'swedish+fish' so it seems weirdly spammy?! Any thoughts would be really helpful (and I am only mildly techy). Many thanks

E-commerce solution and subdomain issues
Hello All,
Technical SEO | | CherieP
In light of Wil Reynold's closing keynote at Portland's Searchfest, I thought I might try posting here to get some advice. We run a family business on the side and we're looking at starting to use volusion.com for our e-commerce solution. The catch is we currently have a wordpress site summitmining.com running on thesis with great SEO. Ranking #1 & #2 for our highest trafficked terms. Ideally, I'd like Summitmining.com to direct to the Volusion store and then summitmining.com/blog to go to our wordpress installation BUT since the volusion site will be hosted with the company and they will not host our wordpress installation we'd have to use a subdomain instead of a subdirectory which I understand will be bad for SEO. Does anyone have any recommendation on how to set this up without totally screwing up our ranking OR any recommendations of an easy to use shopping cart (I've worked on a magento site before and it's too complex for us) that wouldn't require a separate or subdomain? Thank you so much!
