Local Service pages guide?
-
There are a lots of Local landing pages guide on the internet. Is there any guide for Local service pages? How to create them, what to include?
-
Hi Michael!
There are 3 common approaches to your scenario which can be described as follows:
OPTION 1
This represents a very basic, good structure to be used when all service cities are deemed of equal importance:
-
Build a unique landing page for each city served, optimized for each city + general info about your work in that city
-
Build a unique landing page for each service, optimized for each service but not optimized for geo terms.
OPTION 2
Given Google's extreme bias toward physical location, this option can be used to maximize your optimization for your city of location, while still giving secondary focus to additional service cities where you lack a physical location:
-
Build a unique landing page for each city served, optimized for each city + general info about your work in that city
-
Build a unique landing page for each service, optimized for each service and also optimized for your city of location, strengthening the association between your services and your core city.
OPTION 3
This option should only be considered by companies with significant funding and exceptional creative resources that will ensure that all pages are unique and useful rather than duplicative, thin and harmful:
- Build a unique page for every possible keyword/geo combination. So:
Cloud Computing Sherman Oaks
Cloud Computing Van Nuys
Computer Repair Sherman Oaks
Computer Repair Van Nuys
etc.
*Again, this last approach should only be undertaken if you are positive the content you'll be developing has a definite purpose for users and that you won't end up weakening your website with a big menu of weak pages.
Options 1 & 2 tend to be the best bet for smaller companies with reasonable resources. Option 3 can work, but only where creative possibilities and big budget are available.
Hope this helps lay this out in a way that makes sense!

Hi Miriam,
above guide includes the Local Landing Pages, Â I need help in local service pages, How to create them, what to include etc.
For example - Website offer service like, Cloud computing, Computer repair, Computer Networking, Email Support, IT Support, Migrating To Office 365. So We need to create service page for each of the above service. SO what to include here?
Landing pages, I am serving, Woodland Hills, Sherman Oaks, Van Nuys, San Fernando Valley. SO here I can create landing pages for each city as per the guide (https://moz.com/blog/overcoming-your-fear-of-local-landing-pages).
Do I need to create City based landing pages for my each service, or just one landing page per city, which includes all services in one landing page?
Are I am confusing in Service pages and in the Landing pages?

Hi Michael!
By happy coincidence, I wrote a very BIG guide on this topic just recently here on the Moz Blog:
https://moz.com/blog/overcoming-your-fear-of-local-landing-pages
And this post talks about organizing the structure of your landing pages based on your business model. See the infographic at the top of:

Hope these hit the spot !

Can I have multiple GeoShape Schema for one page on one domain?
Hi Mozers, I'm working on some Schema for a client of mine, but whilst doing the research on GeoShapes with my developer, we came across a potential issue with this particular mark-up. My client is B2C business, operating in numerous places across the UK. I want to use the Circle property from GeoShape to draw out multiple circles across the UK, but am I able to do this? From looking at some other websites, most seem to just have one GeoShape. Can I have multiple on the same page and same domain? Thanks! Virginia

Question about partial duplicate content on location landing pages of multilocation business
Hi everyone, I am a psychologist in private practice in Colorado and I recently went from one location to 2 locations. I'm currently updating my website to better accommodate the second location. I also plan continued expansion in the future, so there will be more and more locations as time goes on. As a result, I am making my websites current homepage non-location specific and creating location landing pages as I have seen written about in many places. My question is: I know that location landing pages should have unique content, and I have plenty of this, but how much content is it also okay to have be duplicate across the location landing pages and the homepage? For instance, here is the current draft of the new homepage (these are not live yet):Â http://www.effectivetherapysolutions.com/dev/ And here are the drafts of the location landing pages:Â http://www.effectivetherapysolutions.com/dev/denver-office http://www.effectivetherapysolutions.com/dev/colorado-springs-office And for reference, here is the current homepage that is actually live for my single Denver location:Â http://www.effectivetherapysolutions.com/ As you can see, the location landing pages have the following sections of unique content: Therapist picture at the top testimonial quotes (the one on the homepage is the only thing I have I framed in this block from crawl so that it appears as unique content on the Denver page) therapist bios GMB listing driving directions and hours and I also haven't added these yet, but we will also have unique client success stories and appropriately tagged images of the offices So that's plenty of unique content on the pages, but I also have the following sections of content that are identical or nearly identical to what I have on the homepage: Intro paragraph blue and green "adult" and child/teen" boxes under the intro paragraph "our treatment really works" section "types of anxiety we treat" section Is that okay or is that too much duplicate content? The reason I have it that way is that my website has been very successful for years at converting site visitors into paying clients, and I don't want to lose aspects of the page that I know work when people land on it. And now that I am optimizing the location landing pages to be where people end up instead of the homepage, I want them to still see all of that content that I know is effective at conversion. If people on here do think it is too much, one possible solution is to turn parts of it into pictures or put them into I-frames on the location pages so Google doesn't crawl those parts of the location pages, but leave them normal on the homepage so it still gets crawled on there. I've seen a lot written about not having duplicate content on location landing pages for this type of website, but everything I've read seems to refer to entire pages being copied with just the location names changed, which is not what I'm doing, hence my question. Thanks everyone!

Does having an HTML page in a PHP website affect SEO? I have a PHP website but one of my targeted pages have an HTML page. Will it cause any harm to the website or is it fine to have a html page in a PHP website?

Localized Search Results
I'll try to setup this question: I go to Google.com and set the search tools to a particular city that I am not in (say I live in Nashville but set the search tools for Rockville MD). I do a search for a specific term without a location modifier such as "chrysler town and country" and I don't see the website I'm looking for in the first 100 results. Then I keep the search tools the same, but change the specific search to "chrysler town and country rockville md" and the website I'm looking for is now the #1 result. What would affect the difference? I would have expected the website to have a similar ranking in both situations.

Page Title for a Local Shop
Hello everyone 🙂 I would like to have your opinion on one thing: I am working on a local shop selling pottery and other things. So I was thinking, would it make sense to title the page something like: “Pottery Object, San Francisco, Awesome Pottery” which means “keyword, location, company name”? Or is there a better way to optimize the title of the page for a local shop? Thank you very (very) much 🙂

Will NAP Schema Impact non local searches
Hi, Just got a business address and a toll free number for my website. I have read that adding the NAP details schema to the site gives that additional weight of trust to Google and also helps local search. Now my website is NOT local. However, if I add my LA address details on my website using the Local Business schema.org, it might give Google the impression that I am based out of CA. Fair enough, but my question is, will it impact negatively for SERPs from other states. For example I might want to rank for KW "Autism Alternative Treatment". Obviously now that I have added my NAP, if someone keys in Autism Alternative Treatment LA or Autism Alternative Treatment CA, google should give my site preference. But if someone searched Autism Alternative Treatment Arizona, will google exclude/downgrade me (even though there may not be a local site for Arizona) from the search results under the pretext that I am not Arizona based? Your suggestion would be very helpful.

Local site went from dominating first page - bad plugin caused duplicate content issues - now to 2nd page for all!
I had a bad plugin create duplicate content issues on my Wordpress CMS - www.pmaaustin.com  I got it fixed, but now every keyword has been stuck on page 2 for search terms for 4 months now, where I was 49 out of 52 keywords on page one. It's a small local niche with mostly easier to rank keywords. Am I missing something? p.s. Also has a notice on the Dashboard that says: "404 Redirected: There are 889 captured 404 URLs that need to be processed."  Could that be a problem? Thanks, Steve
