Should you set an hreflang if the website is only in one language
-
We have a website, which is written in British English. There are no other versions of the site in different languages and the website only serves a UK audience.
We have not set an hreflang tag up. Is this something we would still need to do and what would the benefits (if any) be?
-
Hello Daniel,
What Casey is correct.
Also, keep in mind 2 things:- If your site has a ccTLD, there is no need to do nothing.
- Not having a ccTLD, you can set the preferred country+Language in Search Console.
Here some really useful resources about that:
Multi-regional and multilingual sites - Google Search Console
International checklist - Moz Blog
Using the correct hreglang tag - Moz Blog
Guide to international website expansion - Moz Blog
Tool for checking hreflang anotations - Moz BlogHope it helps.
Best luck.

Unless you are targeting outside of the UK, it's not applicable to use the hreflang tag.
If you were also targeting Australia for example or the US alongside the UK, then it would be applicable.
Therefore hreflang is for:
- Websites with the same content in multiple languages
- Websites with content aimed at different regions, but in the same language e.g. AU, UK, US etc
Hope this helps

Setting Up Geo Location
I currently have a page that ranks pretty well for X City and is optimized for X City. However, I now want to change the strategy and set up the Home page for State and build X, Y and Z City pages under it. But I want to make sure that when I set the X City page, I somehow transfer the rankings from the home page to this page. I was wondering what the best way would be? One idea was to put a canonical tag on the home page to point to X City page until it at least gets on the first page or so. Then remove the canonical tag and start separate efforts for Home Page for State and X City page for the city. Please suggest if any other ideas.

If I kill off the franchisee websites and create a corp SEO monster...will my Company's SEO suffer? Pros and Cons?
Our 25 franchisees sell one product of our 7 within the Corporate porfolio. We getting ready to release a brand new corp website employing all the best possible SEO practices. Since the franchisee's barely maintain their 3-page website...we are thinking of killing them off. We will create some market pages on the Corp side and continue to use HubSpot to pass along leads to the individual franchisees. Corporate has robust Content Marketing strategy in place. Any suggestions? Cases studies?

Two websites, same business name, same NAP
Hi, A client of mine offers loft conversions and wants to make a go of it. So he has a website dedicated to loft conversions. He is also a joiner/carpenter and has another old website which offers general joinery work and insurance work. Both websites have the same business name and same address and phone number. There is only one Google place page for the loft conversions website. The loft conversions website is not ranking as well as we would like locally. Could it be due to the same NAP? What are the best options? Redirect the old website to the loft conversions one (he might not like that idea) Change the address and phone number on one website?(and all subsequent citations?) Would love some help on this!
