How to Diagnose "Crawled - Currently Not Indexed" in Google Search Console
-
The new Google Search Console gives a ton of information about which pages were excluded and why, but one that I'm struggling with is "crawled - currently not indexed". I have some clients that have fallen into this pit and I've identified one reason why it's occurring on some of them - they have multiple websites covering the same information (local businesses) - but others I'm completely flummoxed.
Does anyone have any experience figuring this one out?
-
@intellect did you find a solution to that?

@dalerio-consulting what should can we do with excluded section then. let say this page of my website is under duplicate canonical tag in excluded section. then should i leave it if its not very serious or should i request indexing ? Are these excluded pages issues very serious to take?

Hey Brett!
Basically what we believe this status means is Google saying "I can crawl and access the URL but I don't believe this page belongs in the index". They key here is to figure out why Google might not believe the page should be considered for indexation. We analyzed a good number of Index Coverage reports across all of our different clients.
Here are the most commons reasons URLs get reported as "Crawled - Currently Not Indexed":
- False positives
- RSS Feed URLs
- Paginated URLs
- Expired products
- 301 redirects
- Thin content
- Duplicate content
- Private-facing content
You can find a breakdown of each reason on the post we wrote here: https://moz.com/blog/crawled-currently-not-indexed-coverage-status
However, there's likely many more reasons why Google does't think the page is eligible for indexation.

Crawled - Currently not indexed is the most common way for pages or posts on your site not to be indexed. It is also the most difficult one to pinpoint because it happens for a multitude of reasons.
Google needs computing power to analyze each website. How it works is that Google assigns a certain crawl budget to each site, and that crawl budget determines how many pages of your site will be indexed. Google will always index your top pages, therefore, the excluded pages are of less quality rank-wise.
Every website has pages that are not indexed, and the healthy ratio of non-indexed pages will depend on the niche of the website.
There are however 2 ways for you to get your pages out of the "Crawled - Currently not indexed" pit:
- Decrease the number of pages/posts. It's a matter of quality v quantity, so make sure that put more attention into linking every new post so that they get indexed in no time. Don't forget to utilize robots.txt to block pages that aren't useful to the site from indexing so that the crawl budget can be assigned to the other posts.
- Increase the crawl budget. You can do that by raising the quality of the pages/posts. Make more internal and external backlinks for your posts and homepage, make sure that the articles are unique and keyword-optimized, and work hard to aim so that each article will rank on that first page.
SEO is a tough business, but if managed carefully, over time it will pay off.

Hi There,
Google has been struggling to eliminate spam pages, content and structurally ordering them; this is an inherent problem especially with badly structured e-commerce websites.
You might be aware that "Crawled - Currently Not Indexed" means that your page(s) has been found by Google but it is not currently indexed, this might not be an error, just that your pages are in a queue. That might be due to the following reasons:
- There are a lot of pages to index, so it's going to take Google some time to get through them and mark them as either indexed or not.
- There might be duplicate pages / canonical issues for the website of the pages. Google might be seeing a lot of duplicate pages without canonical tags on your site, to improve the number of pages indexed you need to either improve pages so they are no longer duplicated or add canonical tags to help Google attribute it to the correct page
You need to justify each and every page for their merits, and then let google decide whether it think it should be available in their search and also against what keywords at what rank. To summarise, just help 'Google search' by structuring your data right, it might reward you by ranking your pages at right places for the right keywords. Thanks and Regards,Vijay

Search Console > Status > Index Coverage > Crawled - currently not indexed
Yes, I had the same Issues last month, in my case the crawler took it 6 weeks to update the Index Coverage. And apparently, there are not too many things that you can do it about it.
Regards

Does Search Console data include GMB traffic? Branded CTR is 37.8%- Good or Bad?
Hey all, Per Search Console our branded keyword CTR is 37.8%. But when that keyword is searched our GMB listing shows up on top of the #1 result. For the same 90 day period GMB shows another 35% visits to our GMB (based on the number of impressions and visits to our GMB page) listing when the same keyword is searched. My question is this. Does Search console data include clicks that came from our GMB listing or not? My thinking is like this: If GMB traffic is not calculated in search console then it means that 72.8% of people looking for our brand will end up on our site on way or another 9organic #1 result plus GMB listing visits) We are also doing PPC for this very keyword that has gets almost 20% of the remaining traffic. So after adding all up we are loosing about 8% of our branded traffic to people who are doing adwords. When you search our brand you normally see 2, 3 competitor's adwords ads. Does anyone know how this works exactly? And if you don't mind sharing your branded keyword CTR's, so I can compare to ours please. I would love to compare to a site that actually has a GMB listing ranking for the same keyword Thanks in advance, Davit

Hey guys, any advice on why my 'search analytics' in Google Webmaster tools is blank with no data?
I have added all the website versions into Google web master tools and I have no crawl errors. When I click on Search traffic these pages are blank - search analytics, & Mobile usability. And When I fetch as Google the status is constantly saying me 'temporarily unreachable' - any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is it possible to import data from an old Google Analytics profile to a new Google Analytics profile?
We have encountered a situation where a client's old SEO firm is refusing to grant us Admin access to our client's existing GA account. For security purposes (so the other SEO firm doesn't delete the existing GA profile) we have started a new Google Analytics profile. Again we do have access to the data in the old account. Is it possible to migrate this old data over (if we just have user access)? Thanks for the help

What's the final word on Image Search tracking in Google Analytics?
Sorry if this has been answered but I can't seem to get a straight answer to my questions by searching around. How is traffic referred by Google Images counted in Google Analytics? I know it used to be referral traffic from google.com/imgres. A lot of things I have read say that it should all be under google/organic now, but my site still gets referral traffic from google.com/imgres, so that can't be. However I also get traffic as google/organic that I am pretty sure is from image search, because we don't rank for the keyword normally, but we do for image search. What's the deal? How is traffic from an embedded image in a regular result page counted? How can I segment my image search traffic better? It would be great to see image search traffic as it's own medium. I found a script here -- http://jrom.net/google-images-in-google-analytics -- that looks promising, has anyone used it or can recommend another way? I haven't used the GA API very much so I want to make sure the script is kosher and won't screw up my numbers.

Search Traffic Drops Before It Improves?
I'm working on a site with tons of great, useful content....the owners of the site implemented a new site layout and design (complete overhaul) and they were lacking basics such as meta descriptions, 301 redirects, and, shockingly, they had the same Title tag for every single page on a site with thousands of unique how-to articles. Unsurprisingly their traffic dropped by about 300%. They generate most of their traffic from people learning how to build stairs, how to install crown molding, and other related matters. Beginning last Thursday I've been performing basic on-site SEO, things like having unique titles for each page and similar tasks. The week from Thursday when I began until yesterday (Wednesday), Google traffic dropped -29.73% - 17,715 vs 25,210 I believe this is a normal part of the "Google Shuffle" -- does anyone have a Matt Cutts link or similar proof that this is a normal part of the process?

Links and index missing from Google Webmaster Tools!
I've been using a wordpress blog and using google analytics and webmaster tools. I'd never done very much optimizing of my site, my strategy had always been to just keep writing relevant posts and let google do the rest. At some point I installed a SEO plugin to wordpress and did a tiny amount of tweaking, but I noticed that in my webmaster tools page, all my "links to this site" links are gone! My site map says 42 pages submitted, 42 pages indexed, but all the links that I've built over the past few years are missing, and I also notice that I can't find my main landing page in the index anymore. I know there are indexed sites out there that link to me, but they aren't being reflected anymore. Did I anger google by using SEO plugins within wordpress? I'm fairly certain I wasn't doing anything sketchy. Http://brodiegraphics.com RTOH6.png
