Thoughts on Botify?
-
Has anyone used Botify? Is this type of software necessary for a site with under 5K pages?
-
Thanks for the prompt reply, Martijn!
-
Based on your response and the idea that you only have 50 pages that you actively care about. Likely it's not the right tool for you. You're probably better off with a tool that is way more focused on on-page optimization for the keywords that are important to your business. I would start worrying about crawl behavior on a site that is scalable and have over 10.000+ pages that regularly change.

Hi Joe, see my respons to Martijn above and let me know if you need more clarification. Thanks.

Hi Martijn,
Thanks for your feedback. We have a ton of pages for media/news/PR on a subdomain but only have 50 pages that are used for sales. Do you think having control over crawl behavior will matter in this scenario? Our sales pages have no problems ranking.

It all academic without knowing what SoulSurfer8 needs... Software as a solution to what problem.

I've used Botify at my previous job (Postmates) and I also brought it on at my current job at RVshare. I think it's a great tool that brings a lot of new things to the table that GA/GSC can't offer at all (and won't offer). If you're interested in learning how making changes to your site have a direct influence on crawl behavio\r by bots and how that can help you drive additional traffic then it's a great plus. That's why on the technical/product side it will open a lot of new opportunities for testing and continuous optimization.
Regarding if it's useful for you, I would be hesitant to buy an expensive tool (you're likely north of $1500 monthly) for a smaller site as there are fewer ways to optimize on that for the scale there is. But if the only 5K pages generate millions of users from Organic Search on a monthly basis and bring in a lot of money then Yes it might be worth it. If you're comparing to Moz/SEMrush etc. Don't they're not comparable and have totally different price points. You use Botify in addition to your current toolset, not as your toolset.

That all depends on what you need it for, what does it do that GA & GSC (& Moz) doesn't do? Is it worth the subscription costs, which aren't published - so they'll probably feel how deep your pockets are.

Thoughts on different base URLs for different website language?
Hello mozzers, Currently in the process of setting up a new website for a new entity. I was wondering what your thoughts were on using different base urls for different languages. Example: ABCgroup.com -> English
Technical SEO | | yacpro13
groupeABC.com -> French I've never done this before; I've been one to prefer using a subfolder structure. However, for this case, the expected visitors are truly split between 2 languages, and therefore having a base url in the visitor's language is appealing. Would this approach be detrimental if all pages have a proper hreflang tag? Thanks!0 -
Payday Loan or Panda? Any thoughts?
So this is a very old problem, but I'm finally getting around to trying to figure it out. My site experienced a dramatic organic traffic drop from Google (-40%) on May 17th 2014. It then drops another 30% on May 19th 2014. See graphs. According to Moz these two dates correlate with Payday Loan 2.0 and Panda 4.0. Panda makes complete sense, as this site (www.ausedcar.com) has a large amount of content that is syndicated across other sites (used car inventory is essentially the same everywhere on the Internet). Payday Loan on the other hand, which seems to be the primary traffic drop doesn't make any sense at all. Is it possible I started getting hit by Panda on the 17th and then it completed on the 19th? I know the dates for algorithm changes are not perfect. Next, assuming it is Panda, what are some things you guys have done to help with this? As I mentioned this content is duplicated all over the Internet, so it seems like Google arbitrarily picks winners and losers (my site is twenty years old!). I know I need unique content, but not sure how exactly to do that besides rewriting words so it doesn't appear duplicate.

I am convinced I have an internal PR problem, thoughts please?
I have lost all internal PR on my site when using the browser toolbar, only my homepage has PR now, the rest are unranked. It has been like this for a few months now. Can anyone confirm this for me please? The site is yourcityoffice.com If you have any other interesting ways to check PR that do not involve a toolbar or tool bar equivalent. Please let me know.

Old domain vs. New keyword domain - Thoughts?
Okay. I'd like to get opinions as to what everyone thinks about domains lately. Here is any example: The current domain is general in nature, in fact, it's a persons name because they are a real estate agent. So the domain is something like JohnDoe.com. Current stats: Has approx. 130 linking domains pointing to it. Has over 300 incoming links from these linking domains. The link profile is clean and not spammy (not to say there are not a few that might be here and there) Was bough in 1994 The new domain would have very little value except it would be keyword rich such as PortlandHomesForSale.com (just an example). What are your thoughts. Thank you.

Does anyone have any thoughts about this site: web-archive-uk.com?
They have "archived" a lot of our content. We have high-quality content that has been copied by others. We are in the process of sending DMCA notices to the relevant search engines that have indexed these sites. As well as to the actual sites. Are we right to believe that copied content on 3rd party websites damages/diminishes the seo of our own site? (Leaving aside the straight forward theft issue.) BTW actually impressed by the swift responses from Google to DMCA requests.

What are your thoughts on Twylah and SEO?
I recently signed up for Twylah. If you are not familiar with it, Twylah creates a summary of all your tweets, which you can then add to your site to make them easily accessible for humans and for search engines. On first glance I am really liking this idea, however after adding Twylah to our site, our crawl diagnostics took a major spike in errors and alerts: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/90501/static/Diagnostics%20After%20Twylah.png Here is our Twylah page: http://tweets.hingeheads.com I am not a SEO expert, but the number of errors is worrying me. Are we getting penalized by Search Engines/Google because of the high number in errors/alerts? Curious to hear your thoughts. P.S. I have fwd this to the Twylah team. They will get back to me in the next few days.Diagnostics%20After%20Twylah.png

Front page dropped to PR1 - thoughts?
The front page of our site dropped in late March from PR4 to PR1. Yes, I know toolbar PR isn't terribly reliable, isn't much of an indicator of overall SEO, etc. - however, upper management will want to know what happened and what is being done to fix it. Of course, the answer is obvious: go build links. But what might the cause be? As I mentioned in a past Q&A, the site is entirely encrypted and as a result may be causing us to leak some juice (http backlinks of course make up the vast majority of our links). We're planning to fix this once the site is ported over to a CMS, but that's still months off. Other than that, what might be the problem? Any ideas?
