Backlinks and SPAM
-
I was doing some back link review of competitors and I have noticed that many of our competition have 300+ do follow back links from Justia.com and an additional 300+ do follow links from law.cornell.edu (they share the same database).
The links on Justia are from different pages and they are all going to the root of our competitors site. So the questions are as follows;
1: For the purpose of SEO is this considered SPAM
2: If not SPAM, then does it have a positive effect on the competitions website and should I attempt to emulate for my client.
Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't do that if I were you it really seems like a "gray" to even a "black" hat tactic. It might work for now but in the future, it might create problems that you surely don't want. Mass link building to a certain domain or a chain of domains is not recommended at all.

Is there any BAD SEO implications to acquiring backlinks from customers?
What would be the negative aspects to sending customer's requests for a backlink in conjunction with asking how their experience with us was? Backlinks are one of the toughest for our niche industry to acquire and this seems like one of the best angles to cover, since we have .edu , .mil , .gov , and many bigname companies making purchases from us. Would if be wrong to offer a small 5% discount during their next purchase if they create a backlink with us? Or if we added a " Customer's we've served " section including their logo or text link? Thank you! I hope you're all having an awesome day / week / month!

Clean up over optimised backlink profile
A little while back a whole heap (around 5000) of exact match anchor text links showed up in my GWT profile. Now over time quite a few of them have dropped away, but according to Remoovem I've still got a 73% link percentage score for this particular anchor text (which is my main keyword), along with a 55% root percentage. Obviously this is a Bad Thing. What would be the best way to combat this over optimised profile?

Disavow the links? Leave them be and work on more exact match links? When I look at some links listed in GWT, I can't find the link to my page anywhere in the source code. Can I ignore those domains or should they also go into a removal program? I've not received any manual penalty or notice in GWT, though I did see a drop of traffic last year around the early may 'Phantom' update. From which the site has never really recovered.0 -
Link spam outranking me... how and why?!
Can anyone tell me why compertors doing this kind of spam is outranking me? http://boatingblog.discoverboating.com/dfennewald/archive/2009/08/31/discover-boating-becomes-a-chicago-sun-times-headliner.aspx One of my main competitors also has links in the footer of: http://www.cricketlinks.net/default.asp?country=SA This one competitor has nearly 2000 links coming from just 8 root domains. I've been avoiding this stuff like the plague but sometimes it makes you wonder...

Backlinks... If you can beat them & join them?!
I have a competitor who has swooped in on most of the key search terms in my niche, solely through artificial backlinking. There is a direct and obvious correlation between this link building and rise in the serps. I know the mantra around here is creating good content and gaining real links, which I am doing. But I am waiting to unleash this content during a site relaunch which is months away. I don't want to sit around and do nothing while this site makes money and builds their list. I have money to spend and want to go head to head with this site. Would it make sense for me to go and copy all of the links this competitor has built? At least 90% of them are profiles, article subs and blog comments. Also, what do you think would be the best way to tackle this? Any guidance as always is appreciated.

Building backlinks for a newspaper site?
Anyone have tips on building links to a newspaper site? I am looking for a strategy to create links to a news site beyond building one link at a time. We have so much content that is constantly updated that it would be impossible to do this one page at a time.

What to do about bad backlinks hurting authority?
My site has many backlinks from 208.109.47.246/* and go.diaodou.com/* which have low authority. The 208.109.47.246 I believe is my godaddy IP and I don't know why I have the diadou links. Is there anything I can do about these links other than building other more reputable links? Could switching hosts or going to a dedicated IP solve the 208.109.47.246 issue? Here is a look at the links- http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/www.mueslifusion.com%252F/a!links Thanks,
