Hi
I would recommend pointing to the old url to the new url and resubmit your latest sitemap to Google reflecting the change of address.
My G+ for business currently has 55 followers and no engagement - apart from me liking the posts from my personal G+
Apart from the benefits of having content indexed faster, is there any other benefits for me in this situation, from an SEO perspective? I would like to grow the followers and engagement but not sure how as my social marketing skills are not as strong as my technical seo.
What do you mean triple pack?
you mention having my Google+ post appearing as organic result but I believe this is only visible to my followers and people in my circle... so if I have no circle, my posts won’t rank right?
Hi
From my understanding of above, SiteA and SiteB are setup on separate servers and I appreciate you won't want to be running two servers for the sake of keeping redirects alive. Firstly, I would recommend making sure you have a full and up to date backup of the sites.
Server 1:
Setup 301 redirects for everything from DomainA > DomainB
Server 2:
Create the Addon Domain entry for DomainA to point to DomainB
Setup 301 redirects for everything from DomainA > DomainB
Now change the nameservers for DomainA from Server 1 > Server 2.
Once the domain has fully propagated, verify in Server 1 stats that the server is no longer receiving requests for that Domain to serve data and that all requests are being served from Server 2. <--- On confirmation of this, you can then go ahead and delete all data from Server 1 and shut it down.
Now everything is being served from Server 2. Monitor for any new 404 errors that may occur, in case you missed out redirecting any content and get these fixed with redirects as soon as possible.
Providing the structure of the URLs is the same, you shouldn't really encounter any 404 errors and from this point on, the 301 redirects only serve the purpose of maintaining any link juice from backlinks and ensuring your customers who are finding your site through referral links are landing on the correct pages. - If a user visits your site by entering the domain directly, the server will automatically direct them from DomainA to DomainB and from that point on, clicking any links within the site should keep the user on DomainB without having to perform redirects.
Then head over to Google Console and in the configuration tab for your site, there will be an option to notify Google about the "Change of Address" - complete this section.
Finally, to avoid any confusion from your customers I would recommend releasing a notice of some kind to inform your visitors that you have migrated to the new site.
I hope this information is helpful to you and of course if you have any questions at all, feel free to get in touch.
I hope you have a Great Christmas & a Happy New Year.
Best Regards
Ajaz
I'm launching a website that will give daily updates. The /daily/ category needs to be kept clear for the current day updates only, so each day I will be archiving the previous days updates to another folder, for example: /archive/.
Each morning, when I archive the previous days post... the system will 301 the current url from /daily/ to /archive/ and the sitemap will be updated to reflect the change.
What I am concerned about is my site will be packed with 301's and the information is more important on the day so I would expect the majority of backlinks + social shares will be to the /daily/ category url and visitors will be 301'd to the new url.
How would this affect my SEO and is there a cleaner way to do this so?
I haven't got experience with any plugins to help users login before posting but I definitely have experience with WP Blog comments and spammers, so hopefully, I could offer some helpful advice.
I've been accepting blog comments on our companies WP sites and one of the sites has received 6500+ comments, all from genuine readers. We did see a lot of spam at the beginning but I didn't want to make my readers jump through hoops to leave a comment.
I disabled the URL field and if you go to Settings > Discussions in the admin panel, you can list all the words that you would like flagged as spam. I'm currently approving 20+ comments daily and I see no spam in the pending section, all the spam is filtered into spam box and I empty it weekly.
