This is not uncommon, is this a very compeditive term?
The more compeditive a term, the larger the movement for a simple change, or lost link, or new link.

RE: Google Docs Paranoia
I remember Matt Cutts say that no GA data is used. but then he also denies involvment in the Kennedy thing as well as his freemason membership.
-
RE: Google Docs Paranoia
google has been spying on us for years, Kennedy found out about it and they had him shot, he told his girlfriend Marilyn and they killed her too. The whole thing has ripple effects Have you ever wondered why all first positions for keywords are taken by freemasons? Wheels within wheels my friend, wheels within wheels

RE: My Blog pages are out ranking my main website
All pages i checked did not have any. they do now.
good luck -
RE: Strange Linking Data in Webmaster Tools
not sure why the links to the about page more then home page, but i would 301 redirect all my 404s to the home page, or better still redirect them to relevant pages.

RE: How does NIH get these logos in the SERPs
I have often thought along these lines, having a encyclipiedia and dictionary in the results for many terms is more impoartant than relying on the algo. in fact I thiink rand did a article stateing things like "results need freshness", stateingg that the results will include a new result as well as a research result and other sort of results aswell of what the algo brings up.
A query for a type of car, may mean you want to buy, hire, fix, see race video, find images or learn about. results should try to get all these types of results even if they do not deserver high rank by algo alone. -
RE: How many days for a Backlink
Linkscape is only updated once a month, so be patient. search engines can take weeks or even monrths to find the link also.

RE: My Blog pages are out ranking my main website
First thing i noticed, there is no links from your blog to your home page. it looks to google that the blog is a sub site. make sure every page in your site links to the home page. in theory you should link to every page from your home page and back to the home page from every page and no cross linking to give your homepage maximum link juice, but of cause that would not be user frendly, but you should have that in mind when thinking about linking.
Without getting too complicated make sure ever page in your blog has a link to the hoome page -
RE: Different Link Titles Linking to the same page
Yes each link text will help you rank for thet lihnk text. but if your page is not optimized for that term it mayy be a waste of effort.
I often send links to my clients sites buy using the brand names of his coompeditors in link text. this brings him up underneath them on search engines which is better then nothing, but he will never beat them as his page is not optimized for the term. -
RE: What Happend To My Ranks? Began Dec 22 - detailed Info Inside
At xmass visits usally drop. so it is hard to tell when your problems actualy start. but it guess it is your new design that is causing problems.

RE: On Page Optimization Reports - Huh?
In short if you have a report that shows a F, yet it still ranks in top 50, then maybe you should look into it and see why. Some times google gives you good rank for for your keyword on the wrong page, dont fight it go with it.

RE: Redirect and page ranking
It may be a temp problem. How did you redirect them, did you use a 301 redirect. if not youy need to.
If you did the link juice will flow though with losing only a small amount because of the redirect.
The published page rank is only updated every 6 months or so, and is pretty much useless as a metric, what is more impoartant is your rankings, have they changed?

RE: 50,000 Links From The Same Website
i think it is common belief that the first link from a domain is worth the most and then tails off sharply.
-
RE: Ads at the top of the page
I would not have it at the toop of my code, you can put it lower in the code but position it absolutly at the top.

Campaignes for sub domains
Rand yoou mentioned soon we will be able to list the root domain and be able to track subdomains also in the same campaigne. I could not find the article again now, do you have a ETA?
-
RE: Value of Linkworthy Resource Pages
You may be better off sending that link juice to your own pages rather then to the blogs, seeing that they may not link back to you with a do-follow link.
what would make someone link to your page, the fact that you have a link to them? or that you speak highly of them. why not just do article on the blogs with no links, if you speak highly of them they will more then likly link to you.
PS this would create 1 way links rather than 2 way -
RE: I have a great idea for a contest that will generate links...but how do I promote it when I have little traffic?
Its not aonly a good way to get links, its a good reson to ask people to link to you. find relevant sites and ask if they will link to you.

RE: Video Hosting Service or YouTube?
assuming you have the bandwidth i would say host your own and have full controll, both technicaly and for the reasons Dejan presented. i also think that using youtube looks a bit tacky.
-
RE: Pagination and links per page issue.
I believe the number 100 is the limit of links in a page. and yes the more links the less pr being passed to each page.
But 100 links on the home page means means you can have 100 child pages with 100 links on each means 10,000 links only 2 clicks from home page.
as for re=canonical, is page 2 unique? then yes just as you would for any other page.
I assume you are aware of the flat link stucture, if not I think this page though old is a must.

RE: Who is the Rand Fishkin of black hat seo?
There was a guy who went by the name "Earl Grey"
Rand can thank this man for getting him a break.
Earl Grey was interviewed by Neesweek as a Black Hat, when asked by the interviewer if he knew white hat SEO he could interview he gave Rands name, and SEOMoz boomed from that point.
Forgive me rand if i have not got the facts correct, but thats the routh story.

RE: Best Dynamic Sitemap Generator
I use the Microsoft SEO toolkit, its not so much dynamic, but you can just click the pages you want included. i think this is better as Duane Farrester said on white board friday, you should not include every page in your sitemap. just the main ones. If you list every page it is likly your site map will be ignored in future.
I asked Duane about this at bing, and he suggested that this is only so with large sites, if you have a small site of 10-20 pages then listing every page is not a problem. but all the same i only list useful pages, i dont list contact page, policy pages and the like.

RE: SEOMoz mistaking image pages as duplicate content
I have heard people caim they can not, but i know they can, i dont know that they do, but i know they can.
in uni we learnt how you can send code in images by altering pixels and how to detect if the image has changed and conctains code. Each image is just a long code. its a simple check sum

RE: Best Wordpress Hosting
You are coorect
they have php5 but after checking, i find that they have dicontinued mysql used by wordpress i believe, I am not famialer with WP much myself.
-
RE: SEOMoz mistaking image pages as duplicate content
Are they the same image? as it is posible for SE's to tell if they are.
i would put a caption for each image if posible to help differentuate. also a unique alt tag.
-
RE: Best Wordpress Hosting
I am not sure what security problems you had, but the main thing i would be looking for is load speed. this is a factor in ranking.
I host my own sites in Australia, but i do host a few at discountasp. they seem to have all the featuers and they are great value.

RE: Title tag showing in Google that we are not setting
could it be in code.
I used to append my city on the end of titles if they were short enouth. Are you sure no one has coded this? -

RE: Templated content = duplicate content?
Often wondered myself
i think google makke the right choice. they would of thought about this and i am sure they get it right.i have much the same thing on one of my sites, and they rank quite well, so i dont think they are seen as duplicates.
-
RE: .htaccess and www - non www
either way is ok, but not both.
at least when you have 301 redirect, people that grab your url will always grab the same version of it -
RE: How do you properly target locally with anchor text?
As long as it reads natural, just using cheesburgers will probably be enouth. assuming your site has the address on it.
-
RE: Locate your Competitors Traffic Sources -SEO related sources - vs. other sources.
sorry missed the word "competitors"

RE: How do I fix a 404 with a 301
I use .net when i build sites, iuse the Application_Error method to see if the error was a 404 tthen 301 to my home page. so any broken link 301 to my home page
-
RE: Is the www and non www isue realy seen by Google as duplicate content?
Google maay be able to work out what version you want to go with, but is it the same one that bing and other SE's will go with, and then you have the problem with www and non www links, one will be redirect to the other somehow and will leak a bit of link juice. its better that when some one copies your url its always the same.
I prefer the non www. because www is unessasry, i believe its an old unix thing, not needed today. If you have a long domain name www makes it just that much more confusing
-
RE: Too many 301 redirects - good or bad?
Chang ethings so
A to C
B to C
I am not sure that 2 redirects is really that bad, i saw a matt cutts video where he made it sould like i or 2 was not the problem.

RE: Subdomains vs. Subfolders Inheriting Authority/Ranking Value
I have a client with subdomains, and they seem to group together nicely, I do plent of closs linking, it helps that the content is relevant accross domains, but one thing I do is locate all the images and some js and css files on the root domain and link to them from the subdomains. now i have no evidence that this makes a diference besides my gut feeling, but i hope that Se's see this as one big site, i would if i was working at Bing or Google
-
RE: H1 tags the same on all pages - problem?
I would use a div, thats what they are for, a H1 tells the SE what the page is about, and i would not move anything of screen, SE's see that as spaming
I only just re-read and see you are using wordpress, i know little about word press, i can only answer to how i do things.
I would use a strait image, so you can use the alt tag for SEO
I would make the title and h1 unique
I would not move any text off screen. -
RE: Link Count Per Page Including JavaScript Links - Should We Worry About Them?
I would be worried that the js links are using linkjuice but not delivering it to the page, it may be evaperating
As for link sculpting, linksculpting with no-follow is dead, but you shoudl be worried where your link jucie flows. using the flat linking structure as rank has bloged about is the best mathmaticly, but you need to also consider users.
-
RE: On page internal link text
The long and the short of it is
link to and from the home page to every page
link to landing pages from as many links as posible.what you accomplish is pushing your sites rank onto selcted pages
-
RE: H1 tags the same on all pages - problem?
what about title? that certainly should not be the same.
I can not see whythis would be so tricky are these pages static or dynamic? how many? -
RE: On page internal link text
As long as it reads naturaly i would not worry.
but while you are doing this you should think of you internal linking structure
take a look at this calculator
http://www.webworkshop.net/pagerank_calculator.php?pgs=15try linking to every page from home page and to home page from every page (all top row and all left row)
now try linking to every page from home page and to home page and landing pages from every page.
what you do not want is a links to every page from every page.
This is called link sculpting. reading this page will explain lots if you are not already up to speed.

RE: Landing Page Conversion
I agree with others, on landing page my eyes fixed on this
"Find driving test cancellations fast" i did not understand what it ment,"how to get an earlier test" is more descriptive
but what i want to know is the keywords used in pcc, are they direct keywords or are they keywords they need conversion to your product
Why not send pcc to home page?
-
RE: Why would my product pages no longer be indexed in Google?
Alfrado is correct
I assume you are selling though somesort of franchise and you product content is supplied to you.
You need to create original content for them all. Also sitemaps should not contain every page, they should only contain your most impoartatnt pages. see whitboad friday with Duane Forrester from Bing, still on seomoz front page
If making orginal content for all pages is too hard, have some summery pages from each category and get them to rank.
while your proiduct pages used to be in the index, they probably did not rank well asn theyy were duplicates, but they would of been usefull for linksculpting, only pages in the index can be used for link sculpting

RE: Best site structure for SEO
Repeating the company name is not likly any bemifit, i would use a secondary keyword.
I would also use a flat linking stucture, link all pages from the home page if you can, every other page sould link back to the home page, but not all pages. Obviously you would need to break this rule, but as close as you can keep to it is best.i dont know what technology you are developing the site with, but ASP.MVC is perfect for this sort of url stucture and pumps out very clean code for seo
