if its that close i agree also the word properties in your domain would help.

Are your pages relative, if so i think that would be enouth. I believe in imperfect SEO, being too optimized may look a bit suss. i believe that looking natural is important

RE: Wordpress Pages vs. Posts
It would seem its your linking that os the problem, ppages linked from every page are going to rank better. You should look into link sculpting and decide on a linking statagy for your site

RE: The first 5 or what? How many words in page title = revelancy for onpage seo?
Keyword - brand
or
Brand - Keyworddont keyword stuff, also i believe that your keyword is diluted if you have too many words. if your keyword is 2 words and the title is 3 words, then you are using 66% of the toitle, if you have 10 words then you are only using 20%. Keep it short
Having a long spamminfg title will not help you get conversions either. People like a nice neat to the point title to click on. -
RE: Repeat Keyword Phrase or Use Variations
Yes it is good to get variations, but google aslready knows them, if you put SEO, it knows you also mean Search Engine Optimization, so its not like you wont rank for them, you will always rank higher for the variation you use.
but the most imporatant think is, do not go un-natural in order to fit in keywords. Keyword stuffing is a real worrie.
If you cant fit them in without sounding wierd, dont do it. Swaping terms each time you mention the same object can be un-natural. you would not be the first to do it and it would not be the first time SE's have seen it -
RE: Reducing duplicate content
no not at all. but i would not worrie, as there is little info on them they are not really going to do much for you, when they are filled in, they will no longer be duplicates.
If they only ave a phhone number and title, they are not going to do anythiung for you -
RE: Many pages describing services or just a few?
more pages the better, but use link sculpting the make the most of them, one thing to keep in mind is that its one think to make landing pages that get users, but its another to move them to tbe money making pages to make a sale

RE: Do you recommend using Mechanical Turk for link building campaigns?
I have used linxboss, this seems like much the same thing. This type of links do not have much PR to pass, but they do give link text diversity,a nd domain diversity
-
RE: Are .html pages better for ranking than .asp pages
I'm not sure they dont matter, i would think that .pdf, .doc and. xps for example would be less usefull than a htm, asp, aspx.
but David is correct, you are better of not haveing a file name.I develop using Microsoft Asp.MVC, there are no file names in MVC
i believe seomoz is also written in MVC, cant remeber what tipped me off to that maybe some one from SEOMoz can confirmMVC also leaves very clean code, no postbacks or viewstate to clog up the code

The Microsoft IIS SEO Tool Kit
I am yet to find a site that does not have a pile of errors, I get all my sites free from violations, this gives me a head start (how big that head start is is debatable)If your technical side is not perfect all your SEM is discounted. Its like fishing with holes in your net.

RE: Should a no-follow tag be used on a ssl or trust seal?
If you no-follow the link Juice will be wasted, why nort pass the LJ to the page, then pass it on elsewhere, better then alowing it to evaperate.
Only use no follow when you thin the site may be damaging to link to.

I think your correct, it is rare that it will actualy help

Will the word arse in a domain name cause a problem
I have a customer that wants to use the domain name cooksarse.com, what my concern is that the word arse may cause him problems with search engines, even get flaged as Adult content, or family filters.
The site is a fun social site and nothing about it you couyld not talk about in church except the name of the site and domain. "cooks arse"
am i being overly concerned or could this be a problem

RE: Linking articles to each other
I have heard that a low PR page on a high PR site will gain PR quicly when linked to, and since only the first link is going to point to your site and you have 2 links to play with, why not.
-
RE: How much time Google takes to see my backlinks
How many clicks from the home page are these links. even though the homepage of a site has high PR, it does not mean all pages in the site do also. If the site is more than a few clciks from the home page it is likly they are low PR and less likly to get indexed.
It is believed by many that a low PR page on a hight PR site will climb fast in Pr if you liink to it, but then you may as well as link to your own site, -

RE: Ranking are not correct
I have found tha they dont always match also, it could be that your site did not rank on the day that rogerbot crawled it.
try linkscape and see where you are in the list -
RE: Is this Duplicate Content?
Yes it does, before no-indexing the page with meta tag, you should put a rel anoical to the right page, as I find the duplicate can hang arounbd in the index for some time. I would let it be crawled again so that the canonical tag can be found before you remove it

RE: Follow or Nofollow outbound links to resourceful, related site?
spot on, no-follow does leak link juice, it just that it is not awarded to the linked-to page.
the only use for it is when you dont vouch for the linked-to page.
No-follow for a limited time did not leak link juice, but this made it hard to get links because everyone was trying to hoard link juice, many still believe no-follow does not leak link juice and are still reluctant to give a follow link. -
RE: Are old links worth more juice?
I dont have any evidecne an old link is any better then a new link simply because it is old. A lot depends on the linking web site, if it is gaining authority and rank then your link will also gain value. But this can be the reverse.
-
RE: How can I get Google to crawl my site daily?
sitemap should show daily, but only for pages you intent to change daily. I got the idea from a Matt Cutts video, that they only honour the sitmap if they find it to be reliable. if you say daily but never update the content, then its not going to work.

RE: On Page Report Card... with or w/o local modifiers?
I find you dont have to optimize for loca +l keyword so much, as long as local is in the page some where. If you optimize for the keyword you will do well with local also

RE: Why Google did not index our domain?
Try asking for reconsideration, as you bought the domain it may be flagged? worth a try

RE: Duplicate content when uploading articles on other websites
i believe it is not just where the content was seen first, thinks like up time, loading time and other thinks can decide what page will be seen as the original. Rand did and article on it somewhere.
-
RE: Multiple domain names with similar content
yes it will be seen as duplicate,
yes i would use rel=canonical so that the one site is getting ranked, but then your other sites wont rank so well.
you could 301 redirect them all to the same site then do somthing iun the code to present the 5% of changes to the correct users.
but then you have the pproblem of .com not ranking as well as .com.au in Australia.
if you want to keep the .com and the .com.au then you really need to make sites that are differentunless you can afford to maintain 2 vastly diffeernt sites, and can afford 2 SEO campains, i would 301 redirect to the one url. if you have links pointing to both domains then doing a 301 redirect will assign all link juice to one site, you may see a boost in the search engines.
-
RE: Duplicate content when uploading articles on other websites
Best answer is write original content,
if not use rel=canonical tag to point back to original
the serch engine will see only one page as original, the others wont be penalized they just wont get any credit for the content
i put rel canonical in all pages so if some oone copies my site the will more than lickly copy the rel=coanonical tag also -
RE: Seriously? where is my first question?! is it deleted?
Yes it will affect your standing big time. dont do it.
Your second question about the mobile redirect, is not so cut and dry. flash for a start is next to usless if you want to rank in search engines, and sending users and search engines to diffrent pages will get you flaged.
you caoild have a page that asks the user if he wants mobile of web, but sending automaticlly is sending se and users to different pages. -
RE: Am I missing something?
You are not the only one that is frsustated with this, please post url i can only guess without it.
-
RE: Why Google did not index our domain?
Whats your url, see if a second set of eye can spot somthing
-
RE: Rel="canonical"
i would use a 301 redirect for this
rel conical tells the search engine where the original content is, it does not pass link juice to the original content. while 301 tells the SE that it is the same page and all link juice will be awarded to the one page. -
RE: Passing value in a subdomain
Lets say you had a domain xyz.com, and you had 3 peole tbhat had their own blogs
tom.xyz.com
dick.xyz.com
harry.xyz.comwel then search engines may see this as non related sites
but if you had a site clothing.com
and had shirts.clothing.com
and shorts.clothing.com
and pants.clothing.com
then search engines proobably will see them as the sameto help to make sure you are seem as one in the same site, do planty of linking betwen sites, haveing all your images and stayle sheets in teh parent domain will also help search engines see that you are one large site.
try to make the links both ways,i have done this on a few sites and i have had good results

RE: URL Length or Exact Breadcrumb Navigation URL? What's More Important
The url
length should not be ridiculously long, I think 255 chars in the safe limit. So long as
you keep in that it’s ok, but if you have a long bread crumb trail, your page
is probably many clicks from the home page also and this is bad. Many people
think that the problem is having pages deep in the folder structure, but it is
not, it is the amount of clicks from the home page that is the problem -
RE: When does it make sense to use no-follow on your own domain?
Never for seo
but it is good to use on blog comments or where you dont want to rick linking to a spam site.
but for SEO, no-follows still lose link juice.even for a login page i would still no use it, as linking to a login page that links back to your home page can be usefull in link sculpting
-
RE: Newbie quesiton
photography, photographer? the seqarch engine will make the link between the 2, but you will rankj higher for one than the other. you are correct about changing later, it causes some problems.
its also a lot of keywords for one page, you should try to optimize for one or two keywords per page.
deciding what difficulty level of keyword is really up to you. but me i would go for the top keyword, you will rank well for long tail as a consequence anyhow. -
RE: What is the best top menu linking structure (for SEO) for my site: A or B?
If you had all pages linked from the home page, and all pages linking back to the home page but no other pages, this would rank your home page the highest, but it may not be the best for your users.
