we have a small eCommerce company in Jacksonville, FL - and we are always looking for improve our SEO - we have been members of moz for almost 10 years now!  We have learned alot with all the tools they offer,

We have tried at least 5 local and national SEO consultants, agencies and consultants - NONE HAVE WORKED.

The time has come for us to hire an in house SEO do you have any advise on how a small business that wants to grow our SEO can weed thru the thousands of SEO "GURU's" out there today - Everyone is an expert.

Hey Dana - thanks for the reply, we went thru the business plan stage and we have done our market research.  After all this research our team has come to the conclusion that this eCommerce site can grow to $1M + a year in sales ( that is what we consider successful )

Now is the time to build the BRAND

1. Add new products daily ( more pages and content )
2. Community Manager for our Social/Blogger/Outreach
3. ???

I still think we need graphic design in house because all of our products are custom - and the opportunity for new products is endless.

Francisco - thanks for the reply. We have used alot of outsourcing help in the past, and certain things are good for outsourcing, i get it. But one of the things i love the best about owing a company - is creating jobs for my community and a giving others in life the feeling of being on a successful team, that might sound cheesy, but its what i love and it keeps me going to meet new people, coach, train and mentor them into being great team members with great families in our community. So that is a long cheesy way of saying, outsourcing will not work here for me. thanks Bryan

So I just got back from MozCon, my first one, wow - its got me jacked up and ready to rock!

Here is my question, we are a moderately successful eCommerce company (close to $2M in revenue for 2013) and we want to take it to the next level. As the owner of the company I feel like the head coach of a baseball team, while i would like to have a team of 20, we have to grow to that because we cant afford that today, so my question to you is we want to launch a new site for a product that we manufacture.  I am willing to hire tomorrow and make the invest in 3 positions, ( lets assume that the avg position is $30K - $40K )

What would you suggest that those 3 positions be?

UI Developer?
Link Builder / Social Media?
Graphic Design?

Im just looking for some advise or direction to give us the best opportunity to succeed!

Thanks for the answer. I will look into social media network and try to contact blog owners that way. Not sure if they own bunch of blogs and link to themselves.

I've been doing a lot of back link analysis on my competitors and noticed that a lot of links are coming from wordpress.com, blog.com, blogspot.com, etc blogs. These are free blogs in the format of http://www.username.blogplatform.com.  These individual blogs seem to have product reviews and mentions for many different products (we are an e-commerce website). I would like to know if anyone has done any outreach to the owners of the third party blogs. This looks very different from guest blogging and I want to know if there is a way to reach out to these blog owners in order for them to write something about our products.

I would like to know, in your personal experience what is the industry standard for shopping cart abandonment? Does it depend on the industry? Obviously I am not looking for the magic number because there is always room for testing and improvements. However, I do want to know what is the comfortable number that you can live with? Is it 50%, 60%?, 70%?

Good point - i was thinking that the person who would do this would be a small firm or even a moonlighter that wanted a project to work on " afterhours" - we all work at 2 am and on Sundays these days - right

I am the CEO of a small company ( 33 employees in Jacksonville, FL )

We have a family of websites that sell office products - we are the manufacture

we have a staff of 3 in the website dept - but with 10 active sites its alot of work.

We are launching a new site this week and need to do some SEO for the site ..

Since this new site has no sales - i want to see if there is someone that will work based on a % of sales - say 10% of sales for 18 months -

Here are my thoughts :

Option A: - go out and get a "package" for say $5000 and have SEO done and hope it proves results

Option B: - partner with someone and give them 10% of sales the site produces - so if we can grow it to $1M in sales - that person could make $100K off the site - ( our competition is a $20M + site)

Some would say that im crazy and it might cost me $100K -i like it because we are all on the same page and i pay for results - not promises.
