Favorite Thing about SEO
Turning web stats into inbound marketing actions that attract relevant leads and build communication.
I love working with statistics and tracking data. That's probably why I spent so many years in corporate training - helping others with Excel and Access. When I went back to school in 2002 for a Marketing Degree, I naturally gravitated towards web analysis and search optimization. The more I learned about websites, the more I wanted to learn about web programming. The more I learned about web programming, the more I excited I became about optimization possibilities. And, of course, I fell madly in love with Google Analytics! Like so many others.
Fortunately, I've always adhered to white hat online tactics and the value of adding relevant content on a consistent basis, so have never experienced any repercussions during the Penguin, Panda or Hummingbird algorithm escapades. Although I have to admit my sadness at losing the organic keywords, I still have other keyword sources that help me develop content, ranking and conversion strategies. The only disadvantage is that I can no longer use Google Analytics Organic Keyword Data to show my clients how much more relevant their traffic searches have become. That made it very easy to prove my SEO effectiveness. (And yes, SEO effectiveness is different than Conversion effectiveness. Any respectable marketer knows the difference.) But you need to draw relevant traffic to gain or grow relevant business leads. By using your SEO stats, you know early on what's working and what's not. Still, I'm very positive about the future of search engine optimization. There are so many ways to improve a company/s online environment and their customers' user experience. Those efforts keep me busy and employable.
Additional strengths that I offer clients: Social Media Business Marketing (both personal and company profile enhancements), Corporate Social Media Training for sales, management and HR staff.
