Again, I know this.
Have you launched a mobile site?
Hey Andy,
Thanks for your reply.
I know what your saying and I understand the mechanics of specific user-agents being redirected - However they are stating here that it should be a 301 redirect.
I have since seen on the developer forum that it doesn't matter what you use (301 or 302). What I am after is is there any benefit of doing a 301 over a 302?
As above, you would think a 301 would pass over any build up link equity to help it rank, is this the case?
Hey,
In the following article, Google recommended using a 301 redirect but doesn't specify why.
http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.co.uk/2011/02/making-websites-mobile-friendly.html
I assume this is to pass over link equity to the relevant mobile/desktop variation. Can anyone confirm this? Also is there any other reason? Again assuming this would keep the correct URLs in the correct index?
Anything else anyone can chip in would be great.
Thanks
Who cares?
You should be bothered about increasing traffic not your DA
Thanks to you both but I am after something I can set running and it records automatically so I don't have to manually check using the 'cache:' command.
I haven't heard of such a tool but I would have thought it would be pretty useful for measuring changes etc
Does anyone know of such a tool?
Hey folks, In the in-page analytics section of GA I am wanting to get the % of clicks on a particular link over a large selection of dates. Does anyone know how to pull the data without having to do it day by day? Ideally I want to pull it all at once. There might of course be other ways to do this, if so please let me know. Thanks for your help. Cheers,
OSE only about 25% of the size Googles index is
As SWM says, have location pages and make sure you have full addresses and phone numbers on them and also think about getting some google places pages set up.
Maybe you should move away from packages and work on a client by client basis as different clients will have different needs and you might be shooting yourself in the foot when it comes to a client with a bigger budget.
They just look like footer links to me?
ah sorry I didn't realise you already had the business going.
How has the jump been?
How long have you been an SEO?
Hi Paul,
I wouldn't have thought your day to day will change that much on how you present data etc that should just happen with your knowledge and how you grow and evolve your learnings.
If you are thinking about making the jump you should probably thinking about how you are going to be actually running a business and as for services your question to yourself should be what services can I actually off.
What is your skill set? Can you hire someone to do the things you can't?
Hi Paul,
What do you use in your current day to day?
Hey mozzers
Would be interested to know if anyone has used the rel=“next” and rel=“prev” attributes more info here http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2011/09/pagination-with-relnext-and-relprev.html
If you have used it, has it worked and what are your thoughts etc:?
And for those that have used it, is it a better way of handling pagination other than the obvious of Google saying so.
Thanks
Hahahaha never miss an opportunity!!
Thumb up for that lol
There is a fine line.
All I'm saying is any time wasters not wanting to contribute to your site doesn't deserve a link unless of course you want to link out to someone who will benefit your readers.
Maybe upping your admin fee will help encourage them to write the content but really they are just paying for a link
If someone wanted a link from my site and wasn't willing to provide content they wouldn't be getting a link.
If it's something that I might actually like to link to then I'd expect the relationship to have started a different was rather than a direct request without content.
You have to remember it is a trade they are getting a link and you are getting added value to your site also.
I am not really getting it????
Why are you linking out to sites when you are writing the content? The whole point of having guest writers is to add more content to go along side your own content.
If someone can't be bothered to write a good piece of content for your site then don't link to them unless you think it helps your readers.
Hey Mike
As already suggested set up lots of social sites and spend some time on them i.e don't just set up a twitter account actually use it and it will rank very highly.
Another great way is to find all the good stuff out there on the web and link to it!
Doing this will help give it a push in the serps hopefully pushing up the good and clearing the bad.
Hope that helps
Just reports it to the moz its probably just a bug that they can get sorted.
Oh and the point of this is to get some followers quickly and then just let them do the work for you with RT etc.
Tip for the competwition is to give away something that is actually related to what you sell, sounds obvious but people often give away things that people will go bad for; Ipad etc
Give something related and they will engage with you and buy from you.
Hey
My advice is find someone who is already doing what you are wanting to achieve that is in the same niche as you, then follow their followers and add real value to your followers.
Following users will get you noticed and you will get some followers back from it but don't over do it thats just spam!
Also consider some competitions etc a good start is http://competwition.com/ this will get you some followers pretty quickly, just be sure to set it to a 30 day comp to maximise your followers.
Remember though add value, engage with people and don't spam.
Hope this helps
PM me the site if you want and I'll take a look as it's difficult to say if without seeing it
You can find tests carried out by the Dr. here http://www.seomoz.org/blog/6-extreme-canonical-tricks
Hey Justin,
Basically the bots follow the links so it might follow example.com and example.com/index.html once it get to your actual page it then reads the canonical tag which indicates which version is the correct version to use.
Hope that helps
Hey
Quite easy really just add the following snippet
rel="canonical" href="Your URL Here" />
This should be placed between the tags of the page.
BUT.......
Make sure you are using this correctly, if you have duplicate page titles due to canonicalisation (http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo/basics-of-search-engine-friendly-design-and-development) then that's fine but if its just because you have duplicate page titles across your pages then they need to be rewritten.
Hope that helps
Hey Kevin
Just hit the help button and it will explain a notice to you.
Basically it is just info about your site and due to the canonical tag having a massive effect on a site it is worth paying attention to.
For example if you were working on a new client and it reported each page had a canonical tag then you would want to check they were correct.
Hope that helps
The campaign crawler will detect urls regardless of whether they are indexed of not, you should do as EssEEmily says and set up a 301 to the version with the most links if you haven't done already.
Oh and don't think just because one version isn't indexed now, it can still cause you problems down the road especially when linking is involved.
Also when setting up your redirects if you have a small number of links set it up regardless to the xxx/ version as this is the one most likely to be linked to.
There can be other duplications of pages so it is advised to have the canonical tag on each page.
It's also good for other reasons as well so yea click the option for the canonical tag.
Yea I have noticed changes and a change within link profiles
A 301 will pass over the link equity also!
Hey
Does anyone know of a way to set up a custom report in GA to show year on year data?
Ideally even better would be a way to pull data using the excellent analytics plugin but I don't think thats possible at the moment.
Any help is much appreciated.
Cheers
Hey Sean
If I were you select all links to "any" and don't exclude anything that way you can do with the data what you please in excel rather than restricting yourself.
But I guess it just depends on what your using the data for.
Cheers
Hey
It's best to get rid of 'tag' pages as this only creates duplicate content if you feel you must use them then add noindex, follow meta tags.
I personally use the thesis theme and with all styling etc aside it turns your CMS into something on steroids and there isn't a need for any SEO plugins
I'm not really sure if you can call that a real test as social media takes along time but saying that you do now have a base to work from why not carry on with your experiment and and take note of everything then tweek alittle and record that.
Obviously I don't know how much traffic your site gets but I'd say a 7% increase is good especially for what you have done.
I'd keep going and see how you get on and don't forget to report back
Yea I agree if everything is kept the same you shouldn't see much difference but you should expect a drop and prepare for this.
That said you need to ensure the new CMS is capable of accommodation the changes, again be well prepared.
If you intent to make changes then ensure you follow all the necessary steps and procedures that come with a site migration.
As it effected the ranking last time you can be sure it will happen again, you might want to ask yourself why your wanting to change content management systems and weight up the pros and cons, I have a site on CMSMS and I personally don't like it but each to their own
