I have been involved in web design in the Albany area for over 12 years. Over the years, I have been luck enough to work with some terrific clients, both as a contractor, and as creative lead at several local firms.
The beginning…
In 1999, I began my web design career in New York City working for snowball.com. Snowball, home to several wildly popular content driven web sites such as IGN.com, chickclick.com, and powerstudents.com was the perfect place for me to get my feet wet. Here, I designed online web advertising solutions for major brands such as Nike, Timex, Tommy Hilfiger, Kraft Foods, and New Line Cinema. Not a bad first gig. While in New York City, I also kept one foot firmly in freelance, doing design work for a very young Google, as well as various downtown start ups and design firms.
The calling…
In 2001, I came home to Albany, NY. Working with L&P Media, then Light and Power Communications, to develop multimedia and web design projects for clients such as New York State Economic Development, and the Center for Economic Growth. This is when I learned my chops designing for the local market. From my work as Senior Designer at Mercury Web Solutions, designing sites for Trustco Bank, Hummer of Albany, bedpillows.com, and Lavelle and Finn, to my years at L&P Media, designing and implementing web sites for the Capital District YMCA, New York State Senate, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Tri City Rentals, Pioneer Bank, and Hoffman Car Wash, I have relished the opportunities these firms have given me to hone my design skills, and make the transition from web geek, to web design professional.
Goodbye Shorts. Hello Tie.
In addition to my time with more traditional “web firms”, I also spent time designing for a few major local corporations: Trans World Entertainment and CDPHP. At Trans World, I was responsible for web site marketing for it’s FYE and Coconuts brands, as well as printed store signage that could be seen in over 800 of Trans World Entertainment Retail Stores. The position allowed me to be creative, learn print, stay on my toes, and grow as a professional designer. With CDPHP, I was tasked with creating dynamic, visually appealing online materials for the health insurance industry. The work was challenging, as the highly regulated health insurance industry had many requirements and rules to follow, but this discipline helped me continue to hone my design expertise. Believe me, making a totally kick-butt Medicare web site is no easy task.
Consultation Work and Beyond
This is truly what I love. Through my experience working with worldwide brands, to my experience creating websites for local small businesses, the experience of creating a website feels the same for me now as it was in 1999. Helping clients is exhilarating, satisfying, and never gets old. It’s about discovery, creativity, and problem solving. It’s as challenging as it is rewarding, and I love every second of it. What can I do for your business? Let’s find out.
I currently live in Clifton Park, with my wife, my son, and my daughter. Life is good.
