Does anyone know if using a wide responsive layout that brings content well above the fold on big screens (but still pushes it down on small screens or mobile devices) is a good option?

We have an adsense site that just got destroyed and I'm assuming its this new Google algo that's looking at sites with too big of ads above the fold.

Thanks Travis, wow well I had never heard that about WMT. After reading countless link removal, penalty removal, SEO articles on moz and around the web I've never heard the download Google gives you isn't sufficient. I know it lags way behind others, but wow thats news people need to know.

It sounds like its time to move the site and move the good links we have with it then. More time is definitely not an option and with the majority being foreign spam, I don't believe we can control the link removal process successfully.

Hello Rob, as I mentioned hundreds of these links point to his home page. I have already changed the URL's and content on the other pages and let them 404.

If you search wordpress Pharma hack you can read all about it. But needless to say we fixed the hack, the problem is just the inbound links and the nasty algorithmic penalty that he has. The notice we got from Google that the site was compromised was removed 4 weeks ago, and rankings went from beyond page 10 to mostly page 5-6.

GTW backlinks is only 10% of Majestic? I've never seen this data before, and that would make zero sense if Google employees penalties on websites for links but does not provide the list of all the external links they find. I know the summary is all thats provided in GTW but the download is supposed to all inclusive, or so I have been lead to understand...

Either way, these links are IMPOSSIBLE to remove. So if Google webmaster Disavow doesn't actually work at removing penalties (algorithimic in nature) what then can we do?

Our site: Starcitylimo.com got destroyed by a pharma styled hack to their wordpress site. After having to re build the site from scratch to remove the virus, it was found that hundreds or even thousands of pharma links from overseas sites point to his home page (so we can't just 404 the pages).

Contacting the sites for removal does nothing. Added to dissavow 4 months ago did nothing. He's page 5 for every keyword he was position 5 or better for.

Is this one of those situations where its time to move on to a new domain?

Hey Guys, so one of our clients hired a web designers to re do his site. Unfortunately in the process the client got a nasty pharma hack and we had to completely re do his site in drupal by scratch because it was so difficult to remove the hack. In this process his lost all his rankings, sub 100 and the hack produced super low quality links from drug related sites pointing to his pages.

We're 100% certain the hack is gone, we've disavowed every link, and used WMT to deindex all the drug pages the hack had created. Still 2 weeks later he is sub 100. Does anyone else know of any way to push this along faster? I wish there was some way to get Google to recognize its fixed faster as his business is destroyed.

I've scoured the web trying to find some proof of whether the product listing text uploaded to GMC is in fact a factor in showing up or whether its just the title that matters. Basically, does anyone know if the product descriptions play a large factor in showing up or is it just the landing page text and the title? I also wonder just how much text is worth putting there, it seems there is a 500 character limit.

I have a client who lives in the UK but runs a US ecommerce site. I'd still like to get him some local trust signals but he has no options when it comes to getting an address here.  Has anyone found a reputableplace where you can rent an address that isn't already being used by umpteen other companies?

Google will sometimes create their own title tag if they think it is more relevant for a search term.

We have a client who has two well trusted web properties, their insurance site where they sell insurance offerings, and a state specific blog they own where they promote healthy living.

They want to improve their traffic/rankings/etc to the main site but they want to keep their blog where its at for PR (it already has a great following).

So my quesiton is, if we do set up a secondary blog on the main site and use canonical tags on the more trusted external blog to link to the main site. Will that pass on the link popularity their external blog gets along with all the benefits of the fresh content, etc?

I've never actually seen anyone do this yet, keen to try it but not with a client.

We have several businesses, two agencies and one online store all sharing the same address and suite. We aren't focused on getting local foot traffic at all, but I've seen the benefits of local citations + google+ and local directories.

Is there any negative to using the same address with Google? Will they eventually see that and devalue anything SEO wise?

Well by you answering with absolutely nothing of value to add, it makes it a lot less likely someone else will answer.

Not sure if anyone cares to share, but we are growing and quickly finding the challenges of what to pay sales people to get quality staff but still give them incentive to work hard.

We've been working on a salaried position of $1500 per month with a tiered on going commission from 15%-25% of monthly revenue depending on their volume.

However some people already in the biz demand quite a bit more salary.

Any thoughts would be welcome!

I noticed recently that a clients google plus business page (Set up as a personal page) has a followed link pointing to their site. They have many links on the web pointing to the google+ page, however that page is an https page.

So the question is, would a google+ page that is https still pass authority and link juice to the site linked in the about us tab?

We have a site that is for the most part doing great, but the internal pages that received too much link building received some penguin penalties (no warning in WMT) but it's fairly obvious.

Has anyone tried letting these pages 404 and just creating new URL's? Or 302 redirecting the old URL's to new ones?

We are looking to make reviews of many of the products we have on site (staff reviews).  The only problem I am having is our products are not stored at our office (nor can they be as they weigh hundreds of pounds and are super expensive to ship).

So what would be a good solution to show in the video? Should we just do a slide share of still shots of the products with a voice overlay or try something more of a hybrid that uses a whiteboard?

The products themselves cater to gardeners and the DIY crowd so it doesn't need to be super involved.

Seems so much has changed with international SEO I'm not sure what to do with our site. We have a huge site with many country level landing pages that perform very well on google.com searches (IE; keyword + Jamaica) etc.

We are not using a .co.uk version of our site and now our rankings have plummeted in the UK.

Should we just make a .co.uk with similar (or the exact same content) or is there some newer strategy to follow?

in OSE it says we are getting lots of good links from pages like this on pinterest;

However if you look at the code it says nofollow. Am I missing something or is OSE just missing it?

Thanks for the input. So you would put up the new site immediately? Or would you wait a certain amount of time after you take down the old site and put up the new robots.txt file?

I want to make sure Google doesn't see the new site as dup content.

I've come to the conclusion the sheer amount of crap links a site of ours has is un repairable. We own a .net version with the same brand name so I'm planning to move our ecommerce store over with all its content.

I can move the site in one swoop but I believe Google will see it as duplicate content if we don't allow the old site to de index first. I would simply take it down for a month but we still get some orders now and then.

Anyone have any ideas? I was thinking of leaving an image up on each page that is no index no follow linked to the new site that explains the site is being moved, etc.

If after a time, you don't recover. You could also move your design/content/ over to another domain and redirect your old site to your new site and all of its links. It's common for this to remove whatever link penalty was associated with your old site and your new site will still benefit from the good links (though no guarantee).

Yes, if Google see's both it isn't good. Neither are search engine friendly URL structures either. I would at least set up a canonical tag pointing one to the other, or ideally modify the site so only one URL exists and 301 redirect the others.

Agreed on blog networks, I also think forum profile links are a definite no no. But what proof do you have that blog comments aren't considered worthy and are additionally spam?
