one of those factors being if an editor is even looking at your category. just keep resubmitting and don't worry too much about it.

RE: Can I get Google to re-evaluate my comany's website?
If the site is indexed and getting crawled Google is constantly looking at your site and ranking it based upon what it sees.
submit new sitemaps and whatever else you need to do to show google your new content and remove your old content.
-
RE: Time spent downloading a page increased drasticly
What improvement are you referring to, moving the server? Is your new server as beefy as the old server? That could be the main cause
Image sizes seem to be a bit high can you optimize them better?
use yslow or google pagespeed to analyze what is slowing down the site also webpagetest.org

RE: Is there a way to keep sitemap.xml files from getting indexed?
ahhh no index in .htaccess file. brilliant - thanks!

RE: Should i nofollow outgoing links on posts
"a friend of mine suggest me to nofollow all out going links in such postings. he added that it will help increase posts PRs and better search rankings."
this is not true, nofollowing the link is simply throwing away that bit of PR and not passing it to the other site. Removing it as a hyperlink and simply showing the url as text or obfuscating the link are two ways of retaining your PR.

Is there a way to keep sitemap.xml files from getting indexed?
Wow, I should know the answer to this question.
Sitemap.xml files have to be accessible to the bots for indexing they can't be disallowed in robots.txt and can't block the folder at the server level.
So how can you allow the bots to crawl these xml pages but have them not show up in google's index when doing a site: command search, or is that even possible? Hmmm

RE: Duplicate Title Tags and Meta Desc even with the correct Canonical Tag
this should not be an issue at all since both pages are noindex, nofollow
i suggest you change them to noindex, follow though for better spidering
this is way too spammy too. google may suppress your rankings for "cake toppers"

RE: Social Signals, do they help? Looking for a solid Yes or No.
I'm in this camp:
2. Yeah they do help with rankings but not massively, don't focus to much on it.
they are all nofollowed of course so they pass no page rank. if links on social media sites really directly helped rankings you would see such a sick amount of spam it would be insane. it is my belief that Google looks to see if you are engaged in social media and you get a check mark towards one of the infamous 200 ranking factors they use.
social media can be an incredible traffic driving tool and should be thought of as such, knowing that, yea Google probably still likes to see that you are active and people are talking about you on the web

RE: .im domain ranking globally?
Have you ever seen a .im site show up in google.com i haven't
I would go with a .com if you want it to rank in the US, why start off with a major handicap?
the only reason .co is given a pass is because .co sounds like it stands for company. these domains were also more expensive than regular domains and therefore less prone to be used by spammers like .info extensions.

RE: Re-Direct Users But Don't Affect Googlebot
yes u can cookie the user based on IP and send them to the appropriate place. since bots aren't browser based they can't accept cookies and see the default content. dunno why they need to do this though

RE: My site keeps losing positions, Please help!!
sounds like a penalty if not in top 50. you can post the URL and we'll take a look.

H1 tag optimization question
Hey folks, I've got a question about h1 coding.
Our H1 tags are currently coded like this:
[http://www.rapitup.com/mf-doom](<a href=)" class=" current">MF Doom
Do you think this would be better?
[http://www.rapitup.com/mf-doom](<a href=)" class=" current">
MF Doom
My guess is that the second example would be better, and even if not better we know it's not worse. Thoughts? Thanks!

RE: Will Google handle "this not that" pages differently?
hotel is a generic term no one owns you can rank for this Google is not that smart. yet lol
godaddy is a branded name so most likely godaddy complains and takes legal action on anyone trying to use their name to create brand confusion. That is against Google's TOS.
-
RE: Changing Domain / Site Name - An SEO Nightmare?
Why are you changing domain names might i ask, company name/branding from what it sounds like. It's usually only a last resort option especially if the existing site has good PR and is ranking well.
-
RE: How do i fix these errors?
Get the YOAST SEO plugin and it will canonical your site properly, noindex your tags pages and add rel prev/next tags to your paginated pages for you in addition to helping you with a lot of other SEO elements on your WP site.
-
RE: Plural vs singular keyword usage - on-page optimization
replace about 10 of those with synonyms - less is better. make sure everything else lines up, file name, title tags, h1, internal anchor texts, etc.
-
RE: Setting a Preferred Domain
I prefer www but either way is not a problem as long as you are 301 redirecting the one to the other and your internal linking does it the same way.
Also external links pointing to you should be coded correctly too, since most people use www that would be another good reason to go with www.
-
RE: Removing Bad Links, Bad?
Why didn't you 301 redirect them to the most appropriate section?
It seems a little late if you already requested the 404s to be removed from the index.
-
RE: Duplicate pages problem
How large is your site?
do a site: search for your site, if you are unaware of duplicate content it could be URLs with parameters appended getting indexed or https pages getting indexed.
-
RE: Do I ditch the link building and risk the drop?
so you're paying for monthly links and not perm right? That's the problem with month to month deals like that you need to keep going.
You could stop for a few months and see if there is any negative rankings impact, rankings might remain the same.
are u 100% confident that this person knows what they are doing and you won't get penalized?
-
RE: Outranking a crappy outdated site with domain age & keywords in URL.
Absolutely not, your site is aged. A new site is like starting all over even if you do 301 the old site to the new.
a) work on improving the on page SEO on your site
b) if that new domain is available you could play around with setting that up as a stand alone site and see if you can get it ranked #1, it could take 6-12 months before Google really trusts it enough.
c) if it's that old and outdated maybe he wants to sell it at a reasonable price if it's worth that much to you?

RE: Getting Started with Link-Building (Advice, Please)
there is an easy way to find sites that have dofollow comment sections but I will not list it here since this is something you definitely want to stay away from.
The problem with comment linking is that if it's a dofollow it is anly a matter of time before all the spammers start posting on it and what USED to be a decent link is now a like with a hundred spammy med, adult and casino links on it. These sites quickly become toxic and pose a risk to your site.

RE: Is it okay to use hiddencontaining meta information that is a video transcript?
and some people are deaf so you are making your site more handicapped friendly as well as getting that good unique content on your page to boost SEO!
-
RE: Hello i have been hit for external links
I would work on cleaning up the existing site first. You have to make a sincere effort at removing links before using the disavow tool.
Might be a good idea to grab a new domain and park it now so it begins aging in case you are unsuccessful at unwinding the penalty.
-
RE: Is it okay to use hiddencontaining meta information that is a video transcript?
I would not hide text on the site.
a jquery actually shows the text to the user and is spiderable (seo friendly) so i would go that route
click "view transcript" link below the video to see
-
RE: Panda Updates - robots.txt or noindex?
Yes, both because if a page is linked to on another site google with spider that other site and follow your link without hitting the robots.txt and the page could get indexed if there is not a noindex on it.
-
RE: Panda Updates - robots.txt or noindex?
both. block the lowest quality lowest traffic pages with nodindex and block the folder in robots.txt
-
RE: Should ".html" in the URL or not?
the file name is the most important part of the url for rankings
Lose the .html and lose the other junk /f/price/2,100
-
RE: Before submitting to a directory, what do you look for?
I remember aviva getting penalized by Google several years ago.
hotvsnot sells casino links http://www.hotvsnot.com/Games/Gambling/
this site nofollows http://central-payment-corporation.topcreditcardprocessors.com/
frcafe is a mess
chamberofcommerce looks legit but the intermal pages i looked at had no PR
-
RE: Does Google Index an Alert Div w/Delayed Hide
Run a spider simulator to see what Googlebot sees - it's either seen or not depending on the implementation of the code.
-
RE: Link in the footer
nofollow makes it safe because it takes away all PR being passed.
so if this is some sort of prominent button or link that brings you traffic and that is your objective then nofollow it.
If you are doing this for SEO (assume you are because this is a SEO community) it is not recommended to have sitewide footers and can get you penalized. I have seen it happen many times.
-
RE: Rel canonical on every page, pointing to home page
the canonical is a recommendation not a directive that they have to follow so they are probably smart enough to see that this is a mistake. I would fix it ASAP though.
-
RE: Link in the footer
Yes lose it, you can get penalized for it. Is it only on that site and not a sponsored theme i hope? Ask them to make it a homepage only link and even better if they can put it in the content instead of the footer.
-
RE: Before submitting to a directory, what do you look for?
Such as? I would be impressed if you list 10 directories that you got links on who meet the following SEO criteria:
a) not guaranteed inclusion (which is just a silly way of skirting around pretending that they are not selling you a paid link)
b) don't have any casino, adult or meds categories
c) the page you are listed on is indexed and has decent PR with dofollow link that uses your desired anchor text
d) page has a relatively low number of outgoing links on it so your PR is not completely diluted
e) Doesn't cost $300 like Yahoo
-
RE: Which Content Causes Duplicate Content Errors
create unique content for them if u can. if not canonical tag them to the lesser pages to the main page out of the group.
-
RE: Before submitting to a directory, what do you look for?
Directories are no longer a recommended link building strategy.
EDIT: haha three thumbs down for speaking the truth!
Keep posting in directories and soon you'll be contacting (and possibly paying again) the same directories to remove your links in an effort to unwind your Google penalty. Directories provide ZERO benefit to users and all benefit to SEOs and Google has taken action on these YEARS ago.
Why are you submitting these links, to affect your sites rankings in Google or generate traffic? **You are doing it to affect your search positions! and are therefore in violations of Google's guidelines. And Google hates directory sites. **
Better you spend your time working on a link building strategy that has not already been smacked down and flagged by Google. I stopped linking on directories in 2007 when Google started penalizing directories. That was 5 years ago.
http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=465342
Good luck.

RE: Are Keywords Dying?
For large ecommerce sites you need to incorporate automation into the process and dynamically generate optimized title tags, urls etc. everything has to line up. without good tags and urls good content will have less of a chance of ranking. Content creation is not an SEO job that is something you set strategy on and pass to a copywriter.
-
RE: Linking to authority / competitor website!? Yes or No?
if you link but nofollow google sees the association but you don't pass page juice so that is probably the best bet
-
RE: Blog's Homepage isn't indexed even though posts are
OK so i actually took a minute to look at the site hehe
I see no glaring problem
I would change this to index, follow
name="robots" content="noodp,noydir,noarchive" />
sometimes Google will choose to noindex noarchived pages
Link to it from other sites and submit the URL in WMT
-
RE: How do you find a truely knowledgable SEO person to analyze are large site?
Ask a SEO who is currently working for a large enterprise
-
RE: Home page mysteriously not ranking at all
get these out of the index - noindex, follow these pages
http://www.hushabyephotography.com/waiting-for-sissy-san-diego-pregnancy-photographer/img_7876/
Also technical issue here with Gallery code:
A plugin and or robots.txt and Google WMT URL removal requests will help you remove all of these pages you don't want Google to index.
-
RE: Site Wide Links
A link to YOUR site is on a sitewide blogroll?
Lose it. Especially if there is no PR on internal pages. Ask them to make the link homepage only so you're not creating a hundred low quality links with the same anchor text and shooting yourself in the foot.
-
RE: Home page mysteriously not ranking at all
You rank for your company name so the site is not penalized at least
Pages with no content is probably the biggest issue - this site needs content big time, sites like this won't rank well in a post panda world. Adding one sentence per page isn't enough
Site needs better targeting/optimization as well
Kill the blogroll links or at least nofollow them, recommend removing them, leaks PR, puts you at risk and takes users off of your site
Lose the footer links makes it look like you're selling links for PR

RE: Any good recent guidelines on how to best configure Yoast SEO plugin?
TONS of info on the web about Yoast, it's a very popular plugin. It also has a tour you can take once you've installed and activated it that walks you thru it

HEADS UP - Did Google Grant WMT and GA admin access to your past employees or contractors?
Check your users and permissions in WMT and GA. I noticed that two Gmail accounts from a while back were given admin access to our accounts!
That means someone that used to work for you could go in and remove your site from Googles index. Check your accounts folks just a heads up
Here is an article talking about this potentially dangerous issue.

RE: How to optimize for a product by two names
I would use the space for better readability. Even if Google disregards the / it's not going to replace it with a space so you would want that space there for separation of keywords.
-
RE: How to link my websites with each other - to avoid google penalities and get some value
Google knows u own both sites. Don't interlink them unless you are doing it to point someone to the other site for a store or something like that. In that case nofollow all of the links and you'll be fine.
If you are doing it to try and pass PR and boost you rankings then don't do it or both sites could get penalized.
-
RE: Dynamic numbers in meta title - can it harm SEO?
To answer your question, this is a good way to ensure unique title tags across a very large site so yes you can definitely do it.
To clarify what Alan was saying, you don't want a bunch of title tags like this
<title>"Brand - Buy Toys Online, We Have More Than 10659"</title>
<title>"Brand - Buy Toys Online, We Have More Than 20365"</title>
<title>"Brand - Buy Toys Online, We Have More Than 18818"</title>
you want something more like this for example (although you might add category or something after the name of the toy
<title>"Red Tonka Firetruck | 10659"</title>
<title>Darth Vader 16" Plush Toy | 17759"</title>
<title>Justin Beiber Dress Up Figurine | 32666"</title>

RE: Drop in number of pages in Bing index
You're good! Even more pages indexed in Bing.
Google: 2,190 results
Bing: 3,390 results
If you haven't already, signup for Bing Webmaster Tools and verify your site. Bing has some really good tools on there and it's a must for an SEO now just like Google Webmaster Tools insight is. That will show you index status and other issues more accurately. Good luck
