So I'm competing for a very competitive keyword, and I've been on the bottom of page 2 for a while now, ranking for my homepage, which is very content rich and has GREAT links pointing to it.

Out of nowhere, last week I dropped completely out of the top 100 or so, yet one of my article posts now ranks on page 6 or so for the same keyword.

I have great authoritative links, my on-page is spot on, all of my articles are super super high quality, I don't understand how my homepage, which has ranked for the main keyword for months on page 2, can just completely drop out of the top 100 or so....

Can anyone help provide some insight?

What if the majority of our inbound links are coming from external websites utilizing our free widgets on multiple pages of their website, in some cases all pages of their websites (that link back to our site without any anchor text)?

I have a large website that generates a few thousand organic links a day per majestic, and has over 2k referring domains.

a few months back I did a disavow, but I'm wondering your thoughts on how often I should be looking to get bad links removed and add new links to my disavow list. Also, what is really considered a bad organic link?

Are there any companies out there that offer monthly backlink maintenance or something?

So I have a website (www.example.com) that has 29 subdomains (es.example.com, vi.example.com, it.example.com, etc).

Each subdomain has the exact same content for each page, completely translated in its respective language.

I currently do not have any hreflang/canonical tags set up.

I was recently told that this (below) is the correct way to set these tags up

-For each subdomain (es.example.com/blah-blah for this example), I need to place the hreflang tag pointing to the page the subdomain is on (es.example.com/blah-blah), in addition to every other 28 subdomains that have that page (it.example.com/blah-blah, etc). In addition, I need to place a canonical tag pointing to the main www. version of the website. So I would have 29 hreflang tags, plus a canonical tag.

When I brought this to a friends attention, he said that placing the canonical tag to the main www. version would cause the subdomains to drop out of the SERPs in their respective country search engines, which I obviously wouldn't want to do.

I've tried to read articles about this, but I end up always hitting a wall and further confusing myself. Can anyone help? Thanks!

I have a site with many many pages that have very thin content, yet they are useful for users/visitors.

Those pages also have many external links pointing to them from reputable and authoritative websites.

If i were to noindex/follow these pages, will the juice/value from the external links still pass through just as if the page didn't have the noindex tag?

I have no problem shutting down website B, I just wanted to leverage the traffic it is currently getting...

How can I go about redirecting the entire website? Can I redirect specific urls to specific pages on website A, and those pages I don't have a similar content page for, just redirect to the homepage?

Anyone with insight, please share!

I have two websites within a similar niche...some of the top organic traffic driving pages on Website B I'd like to redirect to a similar page on Website A. The reason is Website A is a bigger and better and is monetized much better as well.

I only want to redirect a few of the main URLS on Website A and also only those that I have similar content on my main Website B.

Is this process safe for SEO? What is the best way to go about this process. I am not really concerned with Website B and what happens to it's rankings, but in the meantime, I'd like to redirect the traffic from some of it's main organic traffic driving pages to my main website A and to it's similar pages.

I am also concerned with making sure my main website A stays white hat and doesn't receive any negativity from these redirects.

Kane is correct here.

Generally, you don't want to index tagged pages because you'll run into duplicate content issues in addition to providing useless pages that do not bring much value.

In terms of user navigation, tagged pages can be convenient but not as a strategy to grow your site. Here's another example of a personal site that has the category page with a  "noindex" tag (http://www.onblastblog.com/blog/) and chose to remove tagged pages altogether.

If unique content was written on that category page, only then can it be considered to be indexed.

If you're using WordPress, the best plugin to organize your basic title & description data is Yoast.

Biznit, since you wrote that message a couple years ago, I hope you haven't exploited tag pages by creating hundreds and indexing them.
