thanks for the response, that kind of confirms what we were thinking. So we are planning to put in a noindex follow on those pages while we work on adjusting the content/descriptions. Is that a good fix while we work on the pages or is there something else we should be doing?
Hi Everyone! My name's Ross, and I work at CHARGED.fm. I worked with Luke, who has asked quite a few questions here, but he has since moved on to a new adventure. So I am trying to step into his role. I am very much a beginner in SEO, so I'm trying to learn a lot of this on the fly, and bear with me if this is something simple.
In our latest MOZ Crawl, over 28K high priority issues were detected, and they are all Duplicate Page Content issues. However, when looking at the issues laid out, the examples that it gives for "Duplicate URLs" under each individual issue appear to be completely different pages. They have different page titles, different descriptions, etc. Here's an example.
For "LPGA Tickets", it is giving 19 Duplicate URLs. Here are a couple it lists when you expand those:

http://www.charged.fm/trash-inferno-tickets
http://www.charged.fm/mylan-wtt-smash-hits-tickets
http://www.charged.fm/mickey-thomas-tickets
Internally, one reason we thought this might be happening is that even though the pages themselves are different, the structure is completely similar, especially if there are no events listed or if there isn't any content in the News/About sections. We are going to try and noindex pages that don't have events/new content on them as a temporary fix, but is there possibly a different underlying issue somewhere that would cause all of these duplicate page content issues to begin appearing?

Thanks for the advice Travis. The markup would show in the SERPS? Or it's something that Google likes to see?
I checked some competitors, and they have it, but I didn't see anything in the SERPS for their listing.

Luke here from CHARGED.fm hoping that a brilliant mind could help me with another annoying (at least for me) technical seo question. It's about how we list the events on our ticketing site. Here's the rundown:
We currently list tickets by event id, but our competitors keep the event page in the same silo and use the venue name and date of event in the url. So we do this:
http://www.charged.fm/kinky-boots-tickets (disregard redirect for now)
List the events where you can choose from these:
Moz lists these as duplicate content, so we're wondering how to resolve this. We're also wondering if it would be benficial to keep the events page in the same silo like our competitors:
http://www.vividseats.com/theatre/kinky-boots-tickets/kinky-boots-9-20-1537274.html (notice how they go /theatre/kinky-boots-tickets/event/)
Would it be beneficial to list like this? Is it inconsequential? Could we leave things the way that they are or should we at least add the venue and date to the events page URL?

Right now we're pasting from the Google Doc to CMS visual editor , and the above is what appears in the text editor. Are all of those and **tags going to be a problem? Or if it appears fine in the visual editor is it safe to leave it as is? We have a lot to paste in and it's already formatted in a Google Doc so i'm trying to save a lot of work. **
Hey just a quick question I'm having trouble finding a definitive answer to:
Is the markup that is transferred from Word docs bad for SEO? We are managing to paste it and it looks fine, but the developers are worried that the extra code will be bad for SEO. Does anyone have solution besides pasting into Text Editor and formatting in the CMS? Is this necessary or can we just leave the extra code?

In your opinion, do you think that those pages are closely related enough for Google to pass on link equity? After all, it's a Sports News page redirecting to the Latest News section of a Sports Tickets page. Our assumption is that they will be see as sufficiently related, but it's a tough call.
Hey everyone,
We're redesigning parts of our site and I have a tricky question that I was hoping to get some sound advice about. We have a blog (magazine) with subcategory pages that are quite thin. We are going to restructure the blog (magazine) and feature different concert and have new subcategories. So we are trying to decide where to redirect the existing subcategory pages, e.g. Entertainment, Music, Sports, etc.
Our new ticket category pages ( Concert Tickets, NY Yankees Tickets, OKC Thunder Tickets, etc) are going to feature a tab called 'Latest News' where we are thinking of 301 redirecting the old magazine subcategory pages. So Sports News from the blog would 301 to Sports Tickets (# Latest News tab). See screenshot below for example.
So my question is: Will this look bad in the eyes of the GOOG? Are these closely related enough to redirect? Are there any blatant pitfalls that I'm not seeing? It seems like a win/win because we are making a rich Performer page with News, Bio, Tickets and Schedule and getting to reallocate the link juice that was being wasted in an pretty much useless page that was allowed to become to powerful. Gotta keep those pages in check!

Thanks for the input, that's the answer I was looking for. We are actually working on a more robust and user-friendly top navigation. I'm hoping that the new structure of the site will help spread the link juice around and make us more relevant for our important keywords.
I'll leave the footer links alone and work on better structure and internal linking for now.

The site I'm working on has had a homepage that essentially used the footer as the main form of navigation on the site and the PA of each of those pages reflects that. I'm helping them re-organize the site (I'm still a noob though), and was curious for some input on this particular situation.
Some of the most authoritative pages are:
1. www.charged.fm/privacy - PA 29
2. www.charged.fm/terms - PA 29
My question: Is this just a consequence of previous mistakes that we live with, or is there something involving 301's and creation of new pages that could help us utilize the link juice on these pages. Or should we come up with ways to internally link to 'money' pages from these pages instead?

I know there is literature about this, but I'm always frustrated by technical questions and prefer a direct answer or opinion. Right now, we've got recanonicals set up to deal with parameters caused by filters on our ticketing site. An example is that this:
http://www.charged.fm/billy-joel-tickets?location=il&time=day relcanonicals to...
http://www.charged.fm/billy-joel-tickets
My question is if this is good enough to deal with the duplicate content, or if it should be de-indexed. Assuming so, is the best way to do this by using the Robots.txt? Or do you have to individually 'noindex' these pages?
This site has 650k indexed pages and I'm thinking that the majority of these are caused by url parameters, and while they're all canonicaled to the proper place, I am thinking that it would be best to have these de-indexed to clean things up a bit.

How goes it? I've got a bunch of duplicate content issues flagged in my Moz report and I can't figure out why. We're a ticketing site and the pages that are causing the duplicate content are for events that we no longer offer tickets to, but that we will eventually offer tickets to again. Check these examples out:

I realize the content is thin and that these pages basically the same, but I understood that since the Title tags are different that they shouldn't appear to the Goog as duplicate content. Could anyone offer me some insight or solutions to this? Should they be noindexed while the events aren't active?

I've got a couple of questions about when and if it's alright to let accumulated Link Juice (LJ) slip into the depths of oblivion. I arrived 4 years late to the ticketing website that I work for (www.charged.fm), and found the website in a certain state of disarray. For the past 6 months I've been trying to wrap my head around SEO and our 750k+ page site, and lately we've been making good progress cleaning things up and redesigning. I'm at a loss, though, as to what to do with some pages.
Example: The blog director has been using hash tags for years now that created new pages for each different #, which created a lot of instances of 2 [bytag] pages for 2 different hash tags that had the same article on them.

We've added 'noindex, follow' to this directory (which is the correct solutions, riiight??), but now I'm wondering if some of these pages should be 301'd to more relevant sections of the site, or back to the blog homepage. I know this could be bad for UI, but I don't believe that they're frequently used pages and don't want to let these PA 15 pages go to waste. Any thoughts on this?
Example 2: A similar situation is that they used 302s to redirect to search results pages instead of using category pages. So now there are hundreds, if not thousands, of search results pages that have a PA of 15 or more.

We're working on restructuring the site and removing the 302s, but I'm wondering if it's necessary to 301 all of the search results pages to the new category pages like so:
http://www.charged.fm/search/results/music-tickets >>> http://www.charged.fm/concert-tickets
This would require the programmer to create new search/results pages in order to 301 the old ranking ones, correct? Should I put this in queue for him or just leave the search results pages with 'noindex, follow' and let the PA 15 go to waste?
There are many other instances like this like a Login page with PA 20, and I just can't decide if everything should be redirected or what to leave as dust in the wind. Because all we are is dust in the wind ; )
