RE: Google is Showing Website as "Untitled"
Hi everyone,
Check out the post on Search Engine Roundtable about this at http://www.seroundtable.com/google-untitled-14665.html. JohnMu from Google commented on the Google+ link to this at https://plus.google.com/u/0/107945426404682361496/posts/ASCFeBZitHj.

RE: Finding page ranking when over 50-100+
Part of the reason you're having a difficult time finding those numbers is that it's usually not worth it for the companies doing the rank checking to go that far. With people not going past the first page or two of results, it's not too much a difference if you're ranking on page 11 or page 16 -- the traffic's just not going to be there either way for that keyword.

RE: Duplicate content error - same URL
Yes, it does matter. For some in-depth background about duplicate content, see this blog post by Dr. Pete. http://www.seomoz.org/blog/duplicate-content-in-a-post-panda-world

RE: The crawl report shows a lot of 404 errors
If you download the CSV of the report, there is a column that will list the referring URL for the 404.

RE: Question about using abbreviation
Does your text make clear the meaning of the abbreviation? When we were SEOmoz.org, we never needed to add /search-engine-optimization/ to our URLs, for example.

RE: I am Using <noscript>in All Webpage and google not Crawl my site automatically any solution</noscript>
I got your site in your PM. I went to google and typed site:yourdomain.com and saw that Google reports over 400 pages from your site are indexed.

RE: Overly-Dynamic Urls how to fix in SEOMOZ?
John, having a ton of URLs indexed for the same page will actually dilute things, not help your rankings. Dr. Pete wrote a great post at http://www.seomoz.org/blog/duplicate-content-in-a-post-panda-world explaining duplicate content that should help give you a better understanding of things.

RE: How do i get the crawler going again?
It's easiest for the Moz team to respond to individual questions like this via an email to help@seomoz.org or sending in a ticket through the help hub at seomoz.org/help.

We've run out of indents in Q&A. Can you clarify which is your understanding of title tags? It's not clear which person you're responding to. Thanks!

RE: Finding a copywriter
Michael Gray (graywolf) wrote a review of TextBroker at http://www.wolf-howl.com/reviews/textbroker-com-review/. I have no affiliation, but wanted to pass along more information about one of these services. He does mention tone in the review.

RE: Do links hold there value after 12 months?
When you talk about letting the old links become inactive, do you mean these are paid/rented links that you are letting expire? If you could define what you mean by inactive, that'll help us answer the question better for you. Thanks!

RE: How do YOU use site explorer?
One way I use it is for ideas of types of links I might be able to get for my husband's business (selling model RC warships). There are only a couple of competitors for the fiberglass ship hulls in the US, so I look at their backlink profile. Just this evening I was browsing through, and saw that my competitor had a link from a crew website for people who had served on a certain ship, for anyone interested in building a model of that ship.
We don't carry the same hull so we couldn't get a link on that page, but we do have about 35 hulls, so there are opportunities for several links from other sites.

RE: Google can't access/crawl my site!
If I do a site:gazetaexpress.com in Google, I get some results that are http, and some results that are https. The https ones say there is an SSL connection error.
Are you looking at the http or https version in GWT?

RE: Can un-unique content damage my rankings?
In addition to ranking problems, direct copying of copyrighted articles can open you up to legal repercussions. I second what Pashmina says -- quote only a small portion of the article, and add in commentary about why you feel this is important and why your readers should go view the entire article.

RE: Google Analtyics Changes?
I had a big jump in page views and a big decrease in bounce rate a few months back. Happened right at the same time that I accidentally installed two copies of Google Analytics on my site. It's one thing to check for, just in case.

RE: Google can't access/crawl my site!
Unfortunately, I don't have a quick answer for you. Looking forward to seeing what other community members have to say on this one!

RE: Can un-unique content damage my rankings?
It's probably an "it depends" answer for the ratio, and that's if we actually had access to the algorithm. In the case above, the guy was (and still is) removed from the index.
Someone else may come in with studies they have done to give you more of an answer based on their experience in their niche, but there's not going to be one magic number that serves as a cutoff for every site.

RE: Impact of "restricted by robots" crawler error in WT
Google is just showing you a warning that hey, these are excluded, make sure that you want them excluded. They're not passing a judgement on whether or not they should be excluded. So, as long as they're excluded on purposes, no worries.

RE: My Mozbar SERP overlay stopped working when I updated to Firefox 20.0!
We had an issue with the toolbars. We updated them last night. The chrome one should be in the store now, and Firefox within a couple of days (they're a little slower on approving). So sorry about the trouble!

RE: Pages with rel "next"/"prev" still crawling as duplicate?
Hi Dylan,
Just wanted to check and see if this took care of your duplicates, and if you have any more questions. Happy New Year!

RE: Woot! Finally got some linkbait out.
Congratulations on publishing, and the good response so far. Always a nice way to start a Monday!
You might still send something to the radio station. They could hardly complain about you wanting to make their lives easier with some written (email) information that they don't have to create, and you could get in your links that way.

RE: Rel=cannonical + 301 redirect
I'd see if there was a good way to get rid of the aspx so if you ever change technologies, you can keep those same URLs and minimize future redirects (and it makes your URLs a little bit shorter). I don't know if you can get rid of it or not, not that far into my own DNN site upgrade (upgrading a forum site and moving to friendly URLs, new version of DNN and active forums, and all kinds of fun stuff).

RE: How to select a quality site with SEOmoz root domain ranks for guest blogging?
If my mother landed on the site from Google, would she call me and complain about the crap that Google's indexing and why doesn't she get better results. That's one measure. Another would be is this site one you'd feel comfortable putting up on the projector in a meeting and saying that you got a link from them.

RE: Bing not indexing website for some weird quality reason
You mentioned "(images may be reused from Google images)". You may want to go back and look and make sure there are no copyright violations here, to prevent yourself from running into trouble later on.

RE: Define: Good Content

RE: Error Reporting
This is actually just a notice to let you know there is a rel=canonical tag, it shouldn't be in the error section. Make sure that it all appears OK and you should be fine.

RE: Changing URL structure in WP
I use the Redirection plugin on my site, and you can set it so it automatically creates 301s when you update URLs. I did that when I added a directory to my site and moved some content underneath it. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/redirection/
For URL structure that is friendly with Google Analytics, check out this post over on LunaMetrics. http://www.lunametrics.com/blog/2010/09/22/designing-google-analytics-friendly-site/

RE: Error Reporting
Hi Mike,
The rel=canonical information is in the notices section. It's just a notice to say "hey, it's here, check and make sure you have it set up right". I took a look at your account and at first glance it does look OK (you don't have everything set to the home page and you're taking care of sort parameters).
It's not a warning or error, just a notice, and all appears to be OK.

RE: SEomoz slow to crawl?
Hi Bethany,
Has this and the google analytics connectivity been sorted out? If not, please contact help@seomoz.org and open a ticket and they'll be able to fix this for you. We certainly do want you to be able to get the most out of your free trial! Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

RE: Guest Posting Campaign For New Site
Do you also have high-quality content on your site? From a user's perspective, they may only see one of those 50 posts, then come to your site, and not know that there are 49 more quality posts elsewhere on the web about this topic.

RE: Changing URL structure in WP
Hi Helen, I opened the thread back up for you so it's not marked answered anymore.
The title tags on that site have been somewhat inconsistent, which could actually serve you well. You want to see if all of your blog posts have " | Cucumber Marketing, Vancouver" at the end. The few that I looked at (other than your blog home page) did, while your other pages had slightly different endings on your title tags. If it is unique, that's one way you can separate things out in GA.

RE: Does redesigning the website effects the SEO?
A couple of recent great resources about redesigning websites without losing rankings are available at
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/achieving-an-seo-friendly-domain-migration-the-infographic
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/web-site-migration-guide-tips-for-seos
They are aimed at migrating your site to a new URL, but much of the information they have is applicable in your situation about URLs and things to consider during a redesign.

RE: Code Monitor Recommendations
I've used this one. It checks the code once a day, and no need to install anything.

RE: Changing URL structure in WP
You possibly have a unique ending to your blog posts now, so if you change, you'll not be able to compare prior to now in one easy step. That said, it may be time to look at your title tags site-wide and make things more uniform and have one ending for blogs and one for non-blogs.
Glad to be able to help! If you do decide to 301, that redirection plugin is real easy. It's also handy to have anyway, since it can log 404s and let you make redirects from your 404 log. That's handy if someone links to you and types the link wrong, or hyperlinks a period at the end of things.

RE: OK to block /js/ folder using robots.txt?
Harald, it looks like the response you've quoted is from http://groups.google.com/a/googleproductforums.com/forum/#!category-topic/webmasters/crawling-indexing--ranking/9MGYEoROdkg, which is a question about a menu that has javascript. I think this poster has a slightly different question. I'll ask another associate to come on in and take a look.

RE: Is there a way to add captions to images in the YouMoz Editor?
You might find it helpful to go over to http://www.free-online-html-editor.com/ and do your post, then copy the source code.
Also, click on the buttons in our editor. Many are actually drop-downs with options for headings, alignment, etc. even though they just look like buttons.

RE: Links from MOZ, Harmful?
All the links in Q&A are nofollowed.

RE: Video Hosting Service or YouTube?
Have you chosen a service yet? I don't have experience in this area, but SEOmoz does use Wistia and I've heard great things from the other staff members at Moz about Wistia. In an SEOmoz post about favorite tools, Jamie writes:
Wistia is video hosting on steroids. Not only does this video hosting platform support HTML5, which makes your videos viewable on a slew of non-Flash enabled devices, but the platform is inherently designed for SEO. Try searching Google for "Top 10 Web Apps We Love" and you'll likely see the above Wistia-hosted video that's included with this blog post. Their tracking and analytics are also the best we've seen in video hosting. See a sample report here.

RE: What can be the cause of my inner pages ranking higher than my home page?
I'm seeing very little visible content on your home page. When I do a view source, I see an H2 and paragraph that are display:none. That's probably not helping you at all, and may be hurting you. Do you have any noticed about your site in Google Webmaster Tools?
-
RE: Can't figure out why some of my pages are duplicate content
The short answer is that Google and Moz don't look at images. If you turn off your images, there's not too much different between those pages.
-
RE: Has Anyone Used Boostability?
Just a quick note that all links in Q&A are nofollowed.

RE: Blog Redirect
Good news! Wordpress.com now allows you to purchase a 301 redirect to an external site. Information is available at http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2010/10/04/offsite-redirect/ and http://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/.
