I'm branching out here from my novice seo status . . .
In an effort to channel page rank to the pages I wish to rank for should I make all my non-money pages no-follow. Pages like "contact us", "about us", "application", etc. It seems to make sense to make these no follow so the page rank flows to the pages I wish to rank for.
Am I on the right track?
My primary goal is to get links. Using the over used mortgage calculator as an example, someone with a mortgage type of site would approach other site owners for placement of their mortgage calculator on their site for which the mortgage site owner has embedded a link. The site owner benefits by having the calculator on his site for his visitors, the mortgage guy benefits by getting the link and some referral traffic.
I want to come up with a widget that has real value to site owners in my niche so I can benefit in the same way the mortgage site owner does.
But I need:
ideas of what type of widgets would work
where to get the widgets developed
ideas on strategy (marketing of the widget, proper placement of my link within or around the widget, etc)
I'm familiar with creating widgets for link building and relationship building but I'm not savvy on implementing a strategy. I'm in the commercial truck financing business and, although I have some ideas I do need help with the creation of widgets, how to market them, etc. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
My question is about my content strategy regarding keywords and page creation. For this example I will use the following keywords:
"widget financing"
"widget leasing"
"widget loans"
"thingy financing"
"thingy leasing"
"leasing loans"
"whatchamacallit financing"
"whatchamacallit leasing"
"whatchamacalit loans"
You get the idea. Now I have created a separate page for each of these keywords. There are about 70 keywords and their respective pages. Although all of these describe the same thing I have re-written each page. In other words I didn't use the same content and just substituted the keywords. Each page is roughly 200 to 500 words. I do rank very well for most of these keywords.
I would post some of the pages from my site here but I didn't know if that is frowned on.
My fear/concern is will I get in trouble in a "post Panda" world.
Again, the pages rank very well I just want to be in good graces with Google going forward.
I run a static website with a wordpress blog attached (www.example.com/blog). I'm thinking of allowing guest to post to the blog mainly just to get some fresh content on the blog instead of my own rantings.
Is this a good idea from an seo perspective? I do know that I will get mostly people promoting their own sites but if the content is topically relevant and it's of some quality this should be okay, right? Any links in their post would be no follow so I wont loose there.
If this is a go, how do I promote it so I get more people to posts?
Am I thinking right on this? Good idea?
Phrase search is when the keyword is surrounded by quotes "keyword example". The two keywords must be together such as "big keyword example" or "keyword example number two". But it can't be "keyword bad example".
I'm coming from the keyword research perspective. If a keyword has a search volume (exact) of say 20,000 and the search volume for broad match is only 500 is that keyword still as attractive (purely from an seo traffic perspective). Which do you focus on the broad or exact match?
My question seems basic in nature but some recent keyword research has caused me to re-think broad vs. exact match.
I was taught to focus on exact match for the short term and broad match for the long term prospects of a keyword. Today I was researching a niche of keyword phrases where the local search volume (broad) was, for example 33,000. The local search volume (exact) was only 500. What I know about broad vs. exact doesn't help me to determine if this keyword is worth going after. The keyword difficulty score by the way was 35%
Yes, I do know that I will probably go after this keyword anyway but to refine my question, how do I get an idea of how "big" this keyword is? Is it more on the broad or more on the exact match of things? How do I determine the various derivatives of the phrase that occur under the broad match?
I'm using Wordpress with the Thesis theme (which is great by the way). It puts in a rel canonical for each page. Is this correct? I had always thought that the rel canonical just went on the home page telling SE's the preferred home page address. This appears to be telling SE's the preferred web address for each page.
