Hi Dan,
I've actually tried the free version of Raven's Schema Markup quite some time ago, and couldn't find the functionality for "article". Are you referring to a paid version?
Thanks!
Hello,
I am having problems with marking up my WP posts. I used the All-in-One which seems to be the most user-friendly, except when I denote the aspects of the "article" and update, the markup shows up as a box at the bottom of the post (even though the info is in the text). How do I mark these up for Google without having the unseemly box at the bottom? Thanks so much in advance for any help! Btw, I am not altogether comfortable just yet on manual schematic markup (if you have a really basic manual markup that will let me do so across various platforms, I would also appreciate the recommendation).
Thanks!
There are approximately 20 clients that we have that all show a drop in traffic in GA this month (anywhere from 5-25%). any idea what could have happened? How to fix?
Thanks so much,
Hello,
I am currently a SEO and am looking for an Intro to programming/coding course to help me implement various technical SEO tasks for my clients and the business-as the programming dept will not help me, as they do not see the value of SEO. Could someone pls recommend an online course that would introduce me to basic concepts and also specifically, the information that would help me to enhance our SEO? I would also like to better understand APIs.
Thanks so much in advance for your help!

Thanks Umar! I am trying to markup a b2b for product markup, but keep stumbling on the price quantifier. How should I address this as it is required? Also, if something is listed as an error, does that mean the entire structured data won't be presented to Google? Thanks so much for your help!
Hello,
I am relatively new to all the different kinds of schema one can use to mark up a site, but not all of the structured data I entered in showing up in the structured data testing tool? Does that mean that Google can't see it either?
Thanks so much in advance for your help!
thanks so much everyone!
Thank you so much for your response. You are absolutely right, and I think I knew it all the time. I just had hoped that I had missed something in my research. I actually just read the Larry Kim article this morning. This was a very well-thought-out response-that didn't just have an answer; but an action to take, which I am ever so grateful for. Thanks!
yes accurate rankings, as all the different top tools are showing different positions.
Hello,
While I am aware that Google rankings are subject to a number of variables, I still need to be able to provide the most accurate rankings data for my clients in their reports. Most recently, I have been using the Google Adwords Planner and modifying by location and/or device. Now, having found discrepancy in the MOZ rankings, I started trying to again find the most accurate tools or software. Could someone please suggest the most accurate tool, and also how the accurate rankings are achieved? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Thanks
sorry but now I am being told that we cannot implement the alternate to canonical because we have a default header with no page delineation for (it pulls from somewhere else). as I am an seo and not a programmer, I at a loss as to implement this. Thoughts?
Thanks so much Dirk. Your have been extremely helpful!
Hi Dirk,
Our mobile site is a lot smaller than our desktop version, so where there was a relationship, we employed the 1:1; but if the mobile did not have the correlating page, we did redirect to the homepage. I'm not sure we have the time to create a page in mobile for all of our desktop pages. That being said, what is our next step?
Thanks
Hi Dirk,
Thanks for your quick response! We don't have the canonical: alternate on each page; however, in the "lib/functions" file, I manually entered the relationship between the mobile version url and the desktop version url; and defaulted all others to the homepage. Shouldn't this work the same? If not, how to I best approach this in Dreamweaver? Thanks again!!!!
Hello,
Our mobile site redirects to desktop in a desktop browser and vice versa; however, they are different sites. This said, shouldn't the backlinks for our mobile site be the same as for our desktop site since one redirects to the other. We show no backlinks in my analysis? Any help or insight would be extremely appreciated!
Thank you!
Hello,
I am also having this issue with hundreds of dummy urls that never existed as a part of our website's blog. Do I go into parameters and specify each of the dummy urls to avoid this?
Thanks in advance for any help!!!! (and sorry to piggyback this question Theodore-hope you don't mind!)
Awesome-thanks so much Ryan!
Hello,
A number of our clients have both m.website.com and website.com versions of their site. Per the latest update coming in April from Google, do I need to make sure all clients with just a desktop version are mobile-friendly (according to WT). Also, do I need to make both versions for those clients that have both m.website.com and website.com mobile-friendly or just the m.website.com?
Thank you!!!!
Thanks for the response Martijn. Do you have any recommendations?
Hello,
A colleague recently asked me about affiliate marketing for our clients, and my answer for a few years now has been emphatically "no", because I had not seen it done in positive way. How does everyone weigh in affiliate marketing, and what companies and/or software would you suggest? For example, is http://www.admedia.com/ a reputable source? I see lots of bad reviews on these guys. Any thoughts, suggestions, etc would be extremely valuable.
Thanks in advance!
Hello,
I am concerned as all 30 of our clients show traffic coming from Brazil-and they are all locally-serving businesses. What's more, the visitors from Brazil is increasing in GA. It's looking more and more like our competitor is trying to thwart our good rankings by using some overseas IPs to mess with traffic. Is there anything I can do? There is no reason why any of our clients would be relevant to Brazil, as they serve only local clients. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Hello,
I am new to the fullsite=true method of mobile site to desktop site, and have recently found that about 50 of the instances in which I added fullsite=true to links from our blog show as a duplicate to the page that it is pointing to? Could someone tell me why this would be? Do I need to add some sort of rel=canonical to the main page (non-fullsite=true) or how should I approach this? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello,
So, for many months, a couple of my clients have had a handful of terms that they were ranking for on Page 2. All of a sudden in the past month, both clients have moved up to Page 1, #2 for most of their terms. I have been working on some optimization tests and made minor changes, but I am concerned because the consistency of the #2 position for both clients for all of the previously Page 2 ranking keywords.
I have seen this type of Google increase for clients before, and my experience has shown that it is a test from Google-so, from Google's perspective: "we're going to move your rankings up to Page 1 and see what you do with this to prove to us that your site is worth the position". Anyone had any experience with this kind of movement?
Thanks so much in advance..
Thanks so much Kate. My company is not open to responsive-even though I have pushed for it. so, just to clarify, the mobile site should have as many pages as the desktop version if we continue on the path of two separate sites ideally? We originally began with an abridged version.. (approx 10 pages for mobile vs. approx 42 indexable pages for desktop), so move up the mobile site to 42 pages for equal measure? Thanks so much again for your help!
Hello- No, we actually use DW. I have used Yoast in the past; however, didn't know about the video plugin. Thanks! Any thoughts for what to use with DW?
Thanks,
L
Also, I just found in our desktop site version that we have 204 faulty redirects in the smartphone tab. What would you recommend doing? Do I add more pages to mobile to redirect to? Or is there something else?
Thanks again
Thank you so much! Is there a special tool or sitemap generator specifically for culling the images, videos, and content respectively that you use or could recommend? Or do I need to build it manually?
Thanks so so much again.
Hello,
We have always included videos, pages, and images in the same sitemap.xml file, and after reading through the Google sitemap info page, I am wondering if we should break those up into respective types of sitemaps (i.e one for video, one for images, etc)? If this is so, how to name the files and submit them? And then, should I submit a sitemap.xml directory sitemap? Note: we have the normal amount of images, videos, pages..not an ecommerce site.
Thanks in advance
Hello,
I have recently read that a m.site.com should provide the same number of pages as the non-mobile site. Is this so? Is this why my mobile site won't rank? Our competitors have their standard websites showing up before our m.website.com version... Also, do I have to get a whole new set of mobile links for my mobile site? In WT, I am seeing absolutely no inbound links, which seems odd? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Thanks so much Andy. You have been extremely helpful.
It does not, but I wasn't sure if I could use the same links from our home site or how I should approach it. I know it seems like an elemental issue, but mobile SEO for two separate sites (one desktop and one m.site.com) is a new one for me. Do you have any recommendations?
Thanks!
Thanks so much Kristina! Sorry it took me so long to see this response... No idea why? But this was very helpful!!!!
Thanks,
L
Hello,
I have a m.site.com version of my original site. It is about 1/10 the size, and no matter what I do-I can't get the site to rank. I've added more pages and specified canonical etc etc. Should I add as many pages as my larger site has? Are there specific places I should be submitting this version beyond the typical? I am at a loss, so any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
L
also, one of our clients has 212,113 links pointing to our site. This is bad correct? and how could this be?
Hi Andy,
Thank you so much for your help! So, can I add the snippet above to an existing robots.txt file or do I create a new one? I just don't want to mess up anything that is working for us.
Thanks again...
Hello,
I have done some research on this but cannot find a solid answer to my question. After recently reviewing my "not found" errors in webmaster tools, I see that a site called "WP Datar" has linked to a number of our pages that actually do not exist. I am wondering first, if this will harm our site, and second, what is the best way to get those links from their site taken down? I tried emailing, but of course, the email address listed on the site did not work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Hello,
I have been struggling to handle and recommend social media work from my clients to help with their rankings and online presence. Often, it is ignored; however, as everyone knows only so much benefit can be gained through directory listings and stellar on-page optimization. I am wondering if someone could lend a hand on how they take over the social media tweeting/blogging/content etc for a third party so that it is still authentic both to their clients, and also seemingly to Google? Any insight would be helpful! Thanks in advance!!!!
Hello,
We have a site that was recently put through the redesign process-a couple of weeks ago. It was a tired site that was optimized well, but still struggled because it was so outdated. I went ahead and re-optimized, submitted a new sitemap, and did the fetch. Have I missed a step? Could someone offer insight into what they do when a site is redesigned and the steps taken to make sure that Google crawls and "appreciates" the new site as soon as possible? Thanks in advance for any and all help!
Hello,
I think this may be a coding issue, but hoping someone can help me. I am still having issues with our mobile site ranking, even though we created redirects/canonical to identify similar content between desktop version and mobile. I did notice through MOZ analysis of backlinks that we have no domain authority. If the mobile site is automatically detected dependent on the user, shouldn't we also have the same domain authority? How does that work exactly? How can we build up the domain authority for our mobile site? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Hello,
We have a php system and in the MOZ error report our index.php shows up as a duplicate for / (home page). I instituted a rel canonical on the index.php because the / gets better rank than the other. This said, the error report through MOZ still shows them as duplicates. Should I be using a 301 instead? Please help! Also, I would love a good technical SEO book (for bridging the gap between SEO and programmer) if someone can recommend one?
Thanks in advance!
Hi Chris,
Thanks. I have seen this checklist in my research. My question is this, do I use the same amount of pages for a mobile version of my site and use the appropriate canonical redirects in order to be found? Right now, I have a small fraction of pages for our mobile site than our desktop site-the only pages with a canonical to alternate redirect are the home pages. I have read all the pages on the developer aspect of Google, used various checklists, but cannot for some reason, find a clear enough answer to go with. Could you or someone else help?
Thanks
Hi Chris,
Thanks for your response. I did re-review this page and it looks like we need to expand our mobile site to include as many pages as our desktop site? Is this right? It used to be that mobile sites could have only a few pages and be fine... Any idea why now every mobile page url should correspond to an alternate desktop page url, or does it? That seems to be the only potential problem to me...
Thanks again!!!!
Hi Bill,
Thanks for your answer. I am wondering as per the guidelines in Google Developers on mobile sites if we should have a corresponding page on our m.website to our desktop version, and then show the alternate/canonical tags for each?
https://developers.google.com/webmasters/smartphone-sites/details
Do I understand that correctly? Right now, we have about 15 pages for our mobile site and 78 pages on our main site...
Thanks for any feedback you can offer!
Hi Andy,
I know! This is my preference, and yet I get the feeling from our programming team that it would be too much work.. But thanks for the response and recommendation!!! Knowing little about coding, is there a simplified way to go from two separate sites to one responsive one that I could pass along to my programmer?
Thanks again!
