RE: Traffic and impressions down
I've worked very hard for the content to be very high quality.
Before I was in charge of SEO a so called SEO agency did a lot of low quality link building. Looks like it finally caught up to us.

RE: Traffic and impressions down
Jonathan, thank you.
I looked at all possibilities, except that. Wow, such a big coincidence. Any thoughts on how to recover?

RE: Traffic and impressions down
Yeah, I am with you on that. I doubt google updates rankings that fast.
However, I switched the site the night of august 22nd and on the 23rd I noticed a decline and keep seeing the traffic decline, traffic is actually down 25% (not 10%) from last month.
If it isn't caused by the migration then what is it?

RE: Traffic and impressions down
The thing is. Besides the url difference (.html to /) the content is identical, meta tags, headers, etc is the same as before the migration. I noticed the drop in traffic the very day after the wordpress version of the site went live. I am so bummed.

Traffic and impressions down
I am confused on what is going on.
I recently converted my website to wordpress. I kept the same url structure to the best of my abilities (without the .html) and 301 all .html to / So whatever was www.domain.com/page.html to www.domain.com/page/
The old CMS was a proprietary cms done by the company who originally designed the website. It was poorly put together and was really buggy. I decided to move to wordpress due to many limitations particularly for SEO.
Now traffic is down about 10% and looks like the downward trend will continue, also, impressions are down by about 75%.
Any thoughts on what could be happening?

Switching over to wordpress
Hello fellow Mozers!
I've searched to see if I find an answer, cant seem to find it.
Is there a way to do a blanket 301 redirect? I am moving a site that has all pages end with .html extension over to wordpress.
I was wondering if I could set up a rule that says redirect all pages with .html extension to a version of the page with no extension. I will keep the same url with the exception of the .html extension.
http://www.website.com/page.html to http://www.website.com/page/
http://www.website.com/page-title.html to http://www.website.com/page-title/Instead of doing a 301 redirect for about 250 pages, I was wondering if I can just do one rule that will handle all the redirects considering I am keeping the same page url without the .html extension.
Thanks

RE: Same UI, different domain
Hi Chris,
Why do you advice against this?
Sorry, I just want to see your point of view (and others). Thanks again.

RE: Same UI, different domain
I'd like to dominate the front page on Google for my branded keywords. So figure if I have my blog on a separate domain name will allow me to get an additional property on the first page.
Thanks

Same UI, different domain
Hello there. I would like to ask for your opinions.
I have DomainA.com/blog and want to move /blog to its own domain. As of now, the blog section has the exact same UI as the rest of the site, its just a section on our site.
Will it have any negative impact with respect to SEO if DomainA.com and DomainB.com have the exact same UI and are interlinking each other?
Thanks in advanced.

RE: Is this business considered a SAB to Google?
If your client serves his customers at their locations it is a SAB. No-brainer is you ask me.

RE: A suggestion to SEOs that cold call potential clients
Wow! lol...made my day. I hate cold calls from these type of dimwits, half of the time they have no idea what they're talking about.

RE: Is Link Building Pretty Much Irrelevant Now?
Hi Webby,
Interesting observation there. I've been doing very little link building and my clients also rank well. I am relatively new to the industry so I cant really offer much input. However, your post makes me feel better as I was noticing the very same thing. I'd like to hear what others have to say.
Thanks for posting this question.

RE: How many keywords??
Thanks Dana! I have 50 keywords because this a very local campaign. The audience i want to reach are local. Thanks again!

How many keywords??
Hello everybody! Quick question. How many keywords is a healthy amount to begin an SEO campaign? I'm getting ready for link building and content writing. I have a list of about 50 keywords (with long tails mostly). Is that too much?? Or should I increase the list?? What are your thoughts?? Thanks

Please point me in the right direction.
Hi everybody,
My company recently stopped our SEO service as a cost-saving measure. Now it's up to me to do SEO in-house. I mainly do marketing and graphic design. Though I know exactly (maybe not) what to do to successfully maintain our rankings the SEO company achieved and rank for new keywords, not sure where to start.
I know i need to make sure our website is optimized for SEO. Got that in the works (Our SEO company never advised on on-site seo)
I know I need to create good content with the proper keywords and use anchor links. Where do i put this content? Do i purchase a domain and just put it up there? EZinearticles? or any of those article sites. I've already reached out to do guest blogging on some sites but have not received any response yet. Should i hire a writer?
If anybody can give some pointers on where to start. I've got my list of keywords and keyphrases, I'm all ready to go. How can I begin my in-house SEO campaign?
Thank you so much!

RE: How highly do you value a link from the BBB?
I stand corrected. Thanks "Agents of Value"

RE: How highly do you value a link from the BBB?
I would assume their links are nofollow, but if the rep tells you otherwise.
Honeslty, i'd spent the $750 elsewhere.

RE: Black Hat :(
Thank you for your kind replies vzPRO and Andrea!
I actually just received a reply from the "SEO" company. They're denying that they created those links. I don't believe them. Besides them, there's no reason why anybody else would make those links.
I guess I have my hands full.
Thanks again.

Black Hat :(
Hello folks!
Name is Mike, i'd like to ask some of you your opinion on this matter.
My company hired an SEO company (reputable company in LA) to get our rankings where we want them to be. They've been somewhat successful, we were actually quite happy with their performance. I do mostly print marketing and graphic design for my company, I do manage our website and online store. As a cost saving measure we've decided to cut their service (expensive) and the SEO is now brought in-house - that means its my responsibility now. By no means am I a complete newbie, I pretty much know what I need to do in order to maintain our rankings and improve as well. And with the knowledgebase here at SEOMOZ i should be fine (i hope).
Thing is that I have asked our previous SEO company to supply a list of all inbound links they created. They've been silent, no response. Am I asking for too much?? I ran some of my links through OpenSite Explorer (great tool by the way) and found tons of incoming links using black hat tactics. I don't see how anybody could benefit making these links but the SEO company who we recently got rid of. I am quite certain they are responsible for these links. Black hat tactics such as keyword stuffing and anchor links (with very small font) on the footer of some random website. Kinda upsets me that we paid so much money for this type of crap. They never offered any advise with respect to on-site SEO which I am now finding out I have a lot of on-site optimizing thank to SEOMOZ.
I don't know if its such a big deal or if am simply overreacting. I am concerned of my company's site getting penalized by the search engines and making my job as in-house SEO much more dificult.
Is this a big deal? Should I ignore it and begin building my own quality links and content?
Thanks
