I was just wondering what do most people use for gathering and building links? Is OpenSiteExplorer enough? When I am analysing competitors, there are literally thousands of links, how do you scan them and select the ones you want to use?
Any other tools?

In May there has been a dramatic increase in blocked URLs by robots.txt, even though we don't have so many URLs or crawl errors. You can view the attachment to see how it went up. The thing is the company hasn't touched the text file since 2012. What might be causing the problem? Can this result any penalties? Can indexation be lowered because of this?
Have you run any campaigns on FB, Twitter G+ for the page you want to rank?
No. we just have company pages on the social networks 
So let's I have done so, but most of the competitors have the same stuff. lets say I take a keyword "best savings rates", and of course most of the competitors have the same keyword distribution. Can I outrank them by writing another article on different topic but which targets the same keyword? Will this help? Or should I build links around this page (best savings rates)?

Could you please explain how can I "target keywords"? So from my understanding, I do a research on keywords, then find those which I can rank for easily, and then what? Do I build links to my website pages with these keywords? Or do I create different articles on the website with this keyword?

It seems that we are getting paid from Yahoo as contributors. I can outline the negative impacts on SEO, definitely will use your points. Need to think something about the returns in terms of potential revenues, also. How do you think?
Or I guess I should just point at that we are losing the overall position as a brand. And content duplication can be one of the main reasons why we are losing many positions.

I am currently working for a company and they are publishing exactly the same content on their website and yahoo. In addition to this when I put the same article's title it gets outranked by Yahoo. Isn't against Google guidelines? I think Yahoo also gets more than us since they are on the first position. How do you think should the company stop this practice? Please need urgent responses for these questions.
Also look at the attachment and look at the snippets. We have a snippet (description) like the first paragraph but yahoo somehow scans the content and creates meta descriptions based on the search queries. How do they do That?
