Hey,

I have a niche website which ranked quite good in the beginning (especially image search). I published new posts every other day and also new links. Since around six months this site doesnt rank at all anymore (page 5) and I'm not sure if I should get a new domain, republish the articles and 301 all links.

Would that make sense or is it better to start a new site from scratch?

I just read that other people have the same prob. Since Tuesday their rankings dropped as well. Could it still be Panda? I noticed that our content gets copied quite often. Alone one paragraph on the front page can be found over 1300 times on Google.com. Could that be an issue? But Google should acutally recognize which site published the content first...

My rankings dropped as well, although we got a relevant link from bbc (linked with only the url)... I didn't see any positive impact on that yet.

Lets hope the good results return.

Actually we dont have any keyword domains. The guys who are ranking now on 2,3 etc. are doing so with one page of relevant content but 100s of keyword backlinks.

Maybe I will remove a few of the links on blogs from which I link to those other two sites as well.

Justin, are you continuing linkbuilding + adding new content from time to time or do you change anything else on your sites?

Yes, the main site is on Wordpress, but I added an aditional blog to the site on which we post new articles every week. We also have a forum with around 2k posts. I only added an image to the front page and linked from the blog to one of the pages from the main site.
The strange thing is that it also happened to two other domains for which I placed links...

Do you think google recognized it as a "link network" and therefor the ranking drop?

Thanks Ryan. However, other sites which are also linked from some of those blogs are still ranking as before... Would you just continue with link building and adding content as before (of course keeping the sites separated) or would you also remove some links? A few weeks ago I even got a backlink from bbc.co.uk...

Since yesterday my ranking dropped by in average 7 positions for most keywords. iIm not 100% sure whats the matter. I rank under the top3 for a quite comptetitive keyword since several months. During the last 4 weeks it wasn't that stady (between 2 - 4) because the competition is using an aggressiv link building method.
I'm adding constantly new content and the link building is also quite natural. Maybe I linked the same sites from some of my blogs too often... and Google may see it as a "link network". I experience the same for two of those sites. Maybe I should remove those links?

Any suggestions?

the keyword isnt as competitive as "books". it's more in a niche market. however, some sites have the keyword in the url and most of the links have the exact anchor text. we on the other hand tried not to use the keyword in the anchortext as often... we are mostly linked like "brand + forum". I guess we need more links with the "keyword forum" and maybe onpage optimize. Thanks for your replies.

yes, we have around 1k pages in the index. the forum is installed in a subfolder.

Hey, I have a site which ranks well for a certain term, lets say "books". I added a forum about 6 months ago. I'm optimizing it for "books forum". However, somehow it doesnt get to the top 10, although I placed some quality link to it. It ranks for some long tail keywords... We have daily new posts and use vbulletin + vbseo.

The strange thing is that there a ranking really low-quality sites under the top 10. Hardly any content and low quality links...

But still it's kinda confusing if Google sees keywords like "digg", "share" etc. as more significant as the actual topic ("coffee"). Also vBulletin is a well known forum software. I checked the vBSEO settings again and here is everything fine as well.

Most of the posts are already in the index. I also added a sitemap and all posts are accessible by all users. You only have to be a logged in when viewing a user profile or submitting a post. There are only a few 404 errors because of threads which have been deleted. Besided that there are no crawl errors stated.

The rankings remained the same since then... I just checked Webmaster Tools again and the keyword with the highest significance is "post"... Rreally really strange.

Hey Dejan, thanks for your reply. I'm thinking the same, but somehow Google doesn't. The forum is quite new but we have around 1200 posts which are all about the same "coffee machine" topic.
I really don't get why Google takes those "keywords" under consideration. The forum is installed under a subfolder "/forum".

Hey, I have a website about "coffee machines". Since a few months I added a vBulletin forum with vbSEO installed. The keywords Google found before I added the forum where highly related to the topic of my website (e.g. "coffee", "machine" etc), which I checked through the webmaster tools.

However, I recently checked again and noticed that Google finds mostly keywords like "post", "forum", "thread", "share" etc. with high significance. Those "keywords" only appear on the forum.

Now I'm a bit worried since Google states "These should reflect the subject matter of your site."

Any advice how to solve that issue?
