Fixed it now, it was to do with the url in the form.

I cannot really do that, just wondering if you know why this might be happening :S

Duplicate content error from url generated
We are getting a duplicate content error, with "online form/" being returned numerous times. Upon inspecting the code, we are calling an input form via jQuery which is initially called by something like this: Opens Form
Why would this be causing it the amend the URL and to be crawled?

RE: Open Site Explorer doesn't update correctly
Yep i found majestic pretty useful, i also am now using a combination.

RE: Open Site Explorer doesn't update correctly
Cannot say i'm happy with ose, inaccuracy to me.
-
RE: Opensiteexplorer - not accuate for me
Erm its a little different, still very questionable about the accuracy.
I also noticed that my internal report shows different anchor text distribution to the OSE, does anyone know why and which one is more reliable/up to date?
-
Opensiteexplorer - not accuate for me
I am not getting accurate views in ose. Its still saying i have links from domains which i do not. I am wanting an accurate anchor text distribution but ose is not providing me with it. Does anyone know where i can get this kind of info from?
I waited for an update with ose but i personally find it inaccurate as it is still telling me links are there when they are not.

Social Media - big ranks it seems from it
Hi there, one of our big competitors is ranking first for a huge key term.
We were wondering how they did it, so i went through normal processes:
-
Age of domain - reasonable.
-
Unique content - a little but the ranking page has pretty much none - meaning panda update isn't applying here,
-
Back-links - nothing special really, not enough to be above everyone in my opinion.
Then i had a look at social media shares, over 2,000 mainly as facebook shares.
So i went on their facebook profile and it does not seem like they are spamming content on there. Are these shares from users sharing the link? if so can i find out how many per post? i imagine there is a team setup to share this content when it is published on their facebook page?
It just seems so very unfair they are ranking number one like this, the content in their site is poor, it's not a relevant domain either. So much for panda update eh?
Any thoughts appreciated.

RE: .com or .co.uk in UK index? but the .com has higher domain authority...
Yes the .com does have more links going into it, the .co.uk has little in comparison.
I just wonder with ip seaching, more local search stuff if it would be better long term to switch to the .co.uk ?

.com or .co.uk in UK index? but the .com has higher domain authority...
Hi there i have a .com and a .co.uk for a site that has been around a while.
However not much seo has been done on it, i was wonderign do i continue to optimise for the .com or switch to the .co.uk to rank in Google UK index for various search terms.
.COM = 40 domain authority
.CO.UK - 10 domain authority.
Let the debate start

RE: Google Fresh Update
What do you mean by last mod?
I just have a site map i submitted to webmaster tools, should i be doing more?
Would this only really apply to blog sites?
-
Google Fresh Update
Here's a question, if you put the date in your url (often a wordpress format) would that be seen by Google now as 'fresh' content? - part of their new update.
-
RE: Is getting links on no follow blogs a good idea?
I would say not really as google do not value no follow links. However a natural looking back-link profile would consist of some no follow links in my opinion.

RE: Purchasing an EXPIRING domain with quality related links
So an expired domain the links might be devalued?
If you were to buy a domain off someone and change the registrant and hosting details would they still value that i wonder? not saying its something i would do but it is an interesting point.
-
RE: Changing domain reigstrant - seo impact
Well you would like to think an innocent domain transfer would not be seen as someone buying the site for link purposes then. I would hate someone to be branded like that when they weren't.
-
RE: Changing domain reigstrant - seo impact
Interesting video thanks. However he doesn't give any clues as to what Google look for to seperate a genuine domain transfer to someone just buying a site for links?

Changing domain reigstrant - seo impact
Hi there if you get a domain off someone and change registrant details and hosting, to what extent does this affect the power of the site?
Any opinions of interest, many thanks.

RE: Why is open site explorer not showing the top links that if found previously.
I've found the anchor text distribution not to be correct. It has stayed static on the last update mostly even though i have gotten rid of site-wide links.
I'll wait to see if the next update corrects it all.
-
RE: Just relaunched a website - why did it fall in Google's SERPs?
Have you changed the domain? if so that could be why.
Also if you have content and internal links brand related which have since been replaced with the new site design - this could also have affected it possibly.
-
RE: Why is open site explorer not showing the top links that if found previously.
OSE doesn't seem to be updated with the linkscape update?

RE: Facebook competition: what's the best way to do it
What do you mean third party contest?
I'm sure i've seen people saying if you like us you get entered into a prize draw, can you do that?
What's the best way to encourage shares?
Any advice much appreciated.

RE: How many strong tags is too many
Its keywords that are bold, so i guess perhaps 1 or 2 for around 500 words would be about right?
-
How many strong tags is too many
Hi everyone, just a quick question, what are your views on the use of strong tags in content? how many is too many?
What is you have strong tags around every keywords for a sentance etc?

RE: Duplicate content, Original source?
Thanks that is really interesting, well i intend to take the content off the original source and hope the other site that keeps it on will get the full value of it.
-
RE: Duplicate content, Original source?
Yes but tghey are and have to be 2 seperate sites. B needs the content from A - i am going to write unique content to put on A later.
-
Duplicate content, Original source?
Hi there, say i have two websites with identicle content.
website a had content on before website b - so will be seen as the original source?
If the content was intended for website b, would taking it off a then make the orinal source to google then go to website b?
I want website b to get the value of the content but it was put on website a first - would taking it off website a then give website b the full power of the content?
Any help of advice much appreciated.

Image Size for SEO
Hi there I have a website which has some png images on pages, around 300kb - is this too much?
How many kbs a page, to what extent do you know does Google care about page load speed? is every kb important, is there a limit?
Any advice much appreciated.
-
RE: Too many 301s?
Ok, i probably wont but in what istance would you not recommend this?
I understand pa and pr etc will be back to nothing but its the keyword url i might want to use from scratch
-
RE: Too many 301s?
Also last one, if i wanted to revive the 301s say in a year i would be allowed to and the pages would index again?
-
RE: Too many 301s?
Well they seem to be generating traffic.
In principal is what i intend on doing ok, will it hard the seo or be seen as ok do you know?
Many thanks,

Too many 301s?
Hi there, If there is a website that has accidently generated say 1,000 pages of duplicate content, would the seo be hurt if all those pages were re-directed to the origional source of the content?
There are no plans to re-write the 1,000 duplicate pages, they are already cached and indexed by Google.
I thought about canonical tags but as they have some traffic and a little seo value i thought 301 re-direct would be more appropiate to the relevant pages?
I am also right in thinking you would be able to remove the 301 in the .htaccess file once the index has updated?
Also once removed the 301 - i could use those urls later from scratch if i wanted?
Any info much appreciated.

RE: Help with Duplicate Content Issue for pages...
Can this work as a temporary thing?
So if i put a canonical tag in then take it out, once taken out and the page is crawled Google will then value it as unique content?
I just don't want to do anything which makes Google think its permanent.
-
RE: Help with Duplicate Content Issue for pages...
Thanks for the advice so far everyone.
Some of the pages are getting traffic etc and all seem to be indexed - up to 1000 it seems.
Its 3/4 paragraphs of text so a little more than a product description.
It's a difficult one to call, as i need to save the urls but not get penalised for duplicate content.
-
RE: Help with Duplicate Content Issue for pages...
Thanks for the advice.
On further looking there's more of 100 pages which have duplicate content.
The urls are similar for example.
/destination
and then
/destination/keyword
I have been told to keep the urls and put unique content on as i go on progressing the site. I just don't know what the best way to do it is, whether it is 302, canonical, etc.
-
RE: Help with Duplicate Content Issue for pages...
Well i might need the re-direct to be there for up to 12 months, There's quite alot of content to do.
-
RE: Help with Duplicate Content Issue for pages...
Well yeah i have a few pages which have been duplicated content and i dont want to get penalised for duplicate content. However I want to eventually write unique content for them and use the urls. As they are cached and indexed already I am wondering what the best solution is. I dont want a perm re-direct as i want to use the urls again.

Help with Duplicate Content Issue for pages...
I have pages with duplicate content, i want to put them on hold while i write unique content as i do not want to get marked down for it. I also want to keep the urls and use them again.
There are about 300 pages affected by duplicate content currently.Am i best doing 302 redirects as it is temporary? to the origional source of the content, or canonical tags no index?
The pages are currently indexed and cahced by google, i want to use the url in the future for unique content to get it valued by Google.
Any advice much appreciated.

RE: Query string in url - duplicate content?
Could you explain more please, i've not tried that before.
Kind Regards,

RE: Query string in url - duplicate content?
Thanks for that.
So mypage.php i will add a canonical tag which says mypage.php is the original page for the content.
This will then mean Google will only value mypage.php as the unique content - not any pages with a different query string in for example pages such as mypage.php?id=10&sport=football.

Query string in url - duplicate content?
Hi everyone I would appreciate some advice on the following.
I have a page which has some nice content on but it also has a search functionality. When a search is run a querystrong is run. So i will get something like mypage.php?id=20 etc.
With many different url potentials, will each query string be seen as a different page? If so i don't want duplicate content.
So am i best putting canonical tags in the head tags on mypage.php ? to avoid Google seeing potential duplicate content.
Many thanks for all your advice.
