Yes, it was a strange situation. Lets say I was www.example.com and someone got on a blog and put the link www.example.org so there were links to it from several sites. We owned www.example.org so I just 301 it to our current site. I hope this is what you meant

I had the same situation a few months ago and just pointed them to my site as some of them did have some backlinks

RE: Local Listings for a Virtual Product
I agree with Matt. I have an online store with a local pickup option. I ship all over the US but do not do local SEO in the city where I am based. If your product is specific to the region you should be allright with a local SEO effort.

RE: Dropped 50 places for Page Title Change
What do think about the large amount of words in the image alt tags? I am just curious. I cant help but think it may look a bit spammy. Am I wrong?

RE: Dropped 50 places for Page Title Change
I lost rank on a product page for too many of the same type keywords. I scaled them back and ranking improved a few weeks later. A program I use indicated this :Your Image Alt attributes seem very long . The average wordcount per Alt tag is 8.8 . Possibly too high.

RE: Dropped 50 places for Page Title Change
I would try rankchecker it spiders out to find your actual rank. Or Google the keywords and find your sites current rank. I believe SeoMoz does an update kind of like Semrush but not positive.

RE: Dropped 50 places for Page Title Change
Can I ask what you are you using for your rank check?
-
RE: Need advice interpreting these changes in my search traffic
Did you compare the data in Google Analytics? The drop doesn't seem that hard of drop. You may also check Google insights to see if traffic for those keywords have also dropped

RE: Title Tag & Ranking Improvement....
I like to test new title tags all the time. Matt had a great answer being specific helps. I usually try title tag tests on some lower pages as a safe bet. When you can narrow down the search you generally rank better. For example I sell products that are cooking related so in the title tag I include a popular use term in the tag. Avocados are used in guacamole so I put it in the tag soon I was ranking 2-3 for months. When I took it out the rank slipped to six. Hope I helped and good luck

RE: Looking for a rockstar SEO Specialst to join our team - Where should we look?!
Odesk, and freelance.com are pretty good to try them before you buy them. With so many people claiming to be good SEO's, may be great at a resume or an interview but cannot fulfill your demands. Quora is a place to post this question as well

RE: Does it really matter to set 301 redirect for not found error pages?
I would 301 the ones from links high ranking domains. We had some links that had a session variable that needed redirected. If you do not want to redirect a lot of links you can always do something clever with your 404 page. If the 404 has call to action on it you should be fine.

RE: Hi, we are considering a new site revamp to go live in 3-4 months. How much effort should we put into fixing what is wrong with our current site? We are a new SEOmoz user. Thanks
Personally I would put a lot of effort into fixing what maybe wrong with your old site. This will help you in the transition so you can launch with a good presence. Can you clarify what you think is wrong with your site it maybe be helpful for other people to help answer this question.

RE: New Search Engine.... Vanoogle.com
I use Google custom search to filter out a lot of things I do not need or want. You can put as many urls in that you want . Very useful in looking at your competitions SERPS.

RE: Social Media Gurus... What would you do, your industry has no presence?
I wouldn't consider myself a guru but here is my two cents
Plastic Manufacturing Show pictures of people using the products (toys, show kids playing)
Industrial Laundry: Nice scenic hospital picture and hotels that use the service or if it is uniforms show workers in hard working conditions
Tractor Trailer Wholesale: !8 wheelers rolling down the highway with interesting statistics on the trucking industry
Copper Mining Equipment: Show the mining equipment and some of the specifications on mining.

RE: 301 Redirect Questions
Intuit probably doesn't allow access to the htaccess. If you move your site to one that allows it you can then redirect them. I am not familiar with intuit but I worry that you are a subdomain of the intuit webstores. Storesonline uses this type of technique ( I am pretty sure) so no one every leaves in fear of losing rank and authority. If this is the case you may have some ruff waters ahead if you decide to leave. My personal not professional opinion is you will be better off if you move to another host and then within that host switching domain names. Check your site in semrush and see how many keywords you rank for and if it is far less than you thought this maybe the case. The site you built maybe good enough to climb the ranks quickly.

RE: Access to a Clients Google Places Account
Can you have them switch the email in which the account is attached? Example would be have them create a email for you like marketing@example.com?

RE: Did Google's Farmer Update Positively/Negatively Affect Your Search Traffic?
I have not seen much of a change. Actually if I have to say anything it would be things have improved. Not, working for an agency helps me because I only answer to one person. Reading about people getting hit hard I am curious if their clients have been blowing up their emails and phone asking about the condition of the site. Over optimized sites I guess were hit the hardest. My marketing department started having me get more content on the site prior to the updates. So maybe that had some affect on whether we got hit.

RE: How can I change the day my keyword rankings are updated?
I am not a 100% sure on this but here goes. I assume you created these campaigns on different days. You may try stopping and starting all your campaigns on a given day to reset the weekly ranking

RE: Page and domain authority 1/100
If you are a paying subscriber to Semrush? If you are Semrush has a backlink checker. But I would use Google custom queries to view your SERPs without scrolling through all the pages.

RE: Help with getting no conversions
I did load a little slow. I like the site. I would recommend using www.ranks.nl it is an easy way to find some quick fixes on your site.

RE: 301 Redirect Questions
I posted your last comment in another forum so maybe you can get some insight into this situation. I can share the forum with you if you want to follow it. As a person that has worried about 301s in the past I hope I can help someone else

RE: 301 Redirect Questions
Neil has a good point. Also work with a GOOD webmaster if you are not totally comfortable changing domain servers. I had a mess last year when my less than qualified IT department didn't pay attention to 301s. Good luck! Google webmastertools has some helpful advice for this.

RE: Slapped by Google update
Interesting on the link building. Do you guest post on blogs and forums? A lot of my products get in the news because of illegal uses of it LOL
-
RE: Slapped by Google update
If you want to see if something is happening in your niche. For example I got a huge surge in my traffic after the cinnamon challenge. I had no Idea why until it was already starting to die out. I would suggest setting up Google Alerts for your niche keywords. Google will scan for new posts and webpages with those keywords. So if your keywords hit the news you will be the first to know. -Great answer Zeph

RE: 301 redirect blog network to main site, good or bad?
@Geoff , so if the blog has content in it would the301 stop the crawl and redirect it? If this is true then the content would not be crawled? I have a friend with a similar issue. He is trying to improve ranking by redirecting his old site (which has content) to his new on.

RE: Bought old site. Two weeks later, rankings burnt... could this be why?
Webmaster tools will let you know if you have unnatural links
Crawl errors
It is easy to set up.
If you changes the URL's make sure you 301 them to the new ones
Did you switch domains?
-
RE: Bought old site. Two weeks later, rankings burnt... could this be why?
Do you have a google webmasters account for this site. It allows you to check your vitals of your site.

RE: Best keyword traffic analysis tool for long tail search terms?
This may not help with PPC as much. I use concentrateme.com it allows you to import directly from Google analytics and gives you a visual layout of keyword analysis. The program also makes recommendations for long tail keywords. Ranks.nl has a very useful tool for suggested keywords (it uses Semrush date)

RE: What are some good organizations an SEO company can join that are strong trust signals?
We use the BBB, personally I love it. Spending $400.00 is a small price for more trust on a site.
-
RE: 80% Bounce Rate.. Any ideas why?
I would say it is your layout. You may want to bring some text closer to the top that would captivate the visitor to keep reading and clicking around.

RE: Dropped 12 after following SEOMOZ Tips
I use rank checker for Firefox and sometimes it does the same thing, Big drops on keywords I didn't even touch. Where are you seeing the biggest drop I mean what rank tool? Unless you did something crazy your rank should not drop that fast. I would try a few other ranking tool. If you are using Semrush the update their database every month not daily.
