I'm working on a client's site and noticed a brisk drop in rankings.  In doing some digging I found that the homepage (domain.com) is 301'd to domain.com/home.html.  Here's my problem/questions: 1.  domain.com is indexed by Google 2.  domain.com/home.html is not indexed by Google 3.  both domains have some healthy linking 4.  Is the fact that domain.com/home.html impacting rankings? 5.  How do carefully handle this situation (ex. redirect domain.com/home.html back to domain.com?) 6.  See the attached jpeg for a visual representation of my debacle. hcIiPAs

Ok, I'm reaching out to all of you Moz'rs for some help with this one. My client's site has dropped off the face of google in a real short period of time.  It went from page 1 (avg rank 3 to page 6 (avg rank 50) and below in the matter of 2 weeks. Here's some facts: 1.  DA is a 22 and homepage PA is a 31.  It outranks all other sites in its competitive set. 2.  The homepage used to be the page that displays for keyword searches, now its the FAQ page, which has a lower PA of 23. Why has the home page seemingly vaporized?  And, why is the FAQ showing as the first result? What should I start checking.  I feel paralyzed, not sure where to start. More info: a.  There are no alerts present in Webmaster Tools. b.  For some reason the homepage (domain.com) was 301'd to domain.com/home.html.  Domain.com is indexed by Google, however, domain.com/home.html is not.  If this is the issue, what is the best way to handle it? This question might seem silly, but I'll ask anyway. We have an eCommerce site with a ton of duplicate content, mostly caused by faceted navigation.  In researching ways to reduce the clutter, I've decided to use Google parameter handling to stop Googlebot from crawling pages with certain parameters, like: sort order, page #, etc... Now my question: If I set all of these parameters so that Googlebot doesn't crawl the grids, how will they ever find the individual product pages?  We do upload a sitemap with all of the product pages.  Does this solve my issue?  Or, should I handle the duplicate content with noindex, follow tag? Or, is there an even better way? Thanks

I asked our development team to 301 Pop Up window URLs back to their complimentary product page as we've changed URLs for all of our Pop Ups. We have 100,000s of products on our site, so the number of rewrites are becoming unmanageable and slows server response times (their words). They want to kill these 301's after a prescribed amount of time. Should they just become 410s, leave them as 404s (current state), or insist that we keep them as 301's?

We haven't made any changes to the robots.txt file and suddenly Google claims they can no longer access the file. The site has been up and active for well over a year now.  What are my next steps? I have included a screenshot of the top half of the file.  See anything wrong? D3H5tgE.png

We moved from a .php site to a java site on April 10th.  It's almost 2 months later and Google continues to crawl old pages that no longer exist (225,430 Not Found Errors to be exact). These pages no longer exist on the site and there are no internal or external links pointing to these pages. Google has crawled the site since the go live, but continues to try and crawl these pages. What are my next steps?

I'm reworking most of the page titles on our site and I'm considering the use of the word 'Shop' before a product category. ex.  Shop 'keyword' | Brand Name As opposed to just using the keyword sans 'Shop.'  Some of the keywords are very generic, especially for a top level category page. Question: Is the word 'Shop' damaging my SEO efforts in any way?
