As long as you know that the h1 tag is the most important to SE's and that it contains the page's most valued keyword then I don't think the structure (h1 before h2) matters. However your proposed structure is semantically incorrect and as we move towards the semantic web, you should adopt stricter structures.

RE: Hey guys! I was looking at adding the H1 tag lower on the page than the H2 tag because I want the top bit to be a call to action. Is this proper practice?

RE: Rankings going down and down. Help!
Hi Rachel,
What has changed between then and now?
Both off site and on site? Have there been any changes?
have you added new content or is the content static?
have you lost backlinks or have your competitors all gained links?
What is the quality of your link profile? are your links "spammy"?
Is your social engagement on going or "ok we got a twitter account, now what?"
are you adding links faster than you are losing links? There are just so many variables but these are just a few questions to ask yourself.
Word to the wise, keep tabs on your competitors, how many links are they adding on a monthly basis? are you actively competiing and beating their link building efforts? How often are they adding content? are you?
You know the joke about out running a bear or out running your friend? Well, same mentiality applies.
In SEO you don't have to beat the system, just your competitors. Whatever they do, you do, just do it better, faster, harder and with more quality and care. -
RE: Is it a problem to have too many 301 redirects within your site
That is assuming he is using apache. When using a webserver like nginx that has the rewrites in the config file the performance loss is neglible as opposed to reading from an.htaccess file at every pageload.

RE: Images and SEO
Thanks for the answer, but If we took pagerank out of the equation and just focus on whether linking to an image provides any type of benefit, would a site be able to rank based on a high number of backlinks to images as opposed to pages?

RE: Images and SEO
Maybe if they can't hotlink your images they simply link to you?
or steal your image and host it somewhere else?
It's a toss up. Obviously I would prefer a link, but realistically speaking, the chances of someone linking to your page because they cant embed an image from your site to theirs is pretty slim at best IMO.

Images and SEO
Hi,
I would like some opinions on the topic of using images for SEO.
I have come across a few sites that I see have very few backlinks, but have decent pagerank and seem to rank well for certain keywords. One such site I looked at had very little content other than tons of images (It was a joke blog that focussed on funny images, funny pics etc) and now I am starting to question whether hotlinking images assists in SEO? are there any benefits to having someone using one of your images (hosted on your site) ?
I do recall reading somewhere that someone hotlinking an image is akin to a link.
Any truth in this?

Using api to find likes, tweets and shares
Hi all,
I have a question regarding using the API to get data on a list of urls and not one by one.
I am not a developer so I might not grasp the API so well.
Basically I have a list of urls, what I need from each is the following information:
<colgroup><col width="98"><col width="89"><col width="92"><col width="111"><col width="99"><col width="50"><col width="64"></colgroup>
| Page authority | linking root domains | total links | Facebook Shares | Facebook likes | tweets | Google+1's |I found a google doc that gives me SOME of the data but not all (also it might be old as it uses the linkscape call (I dont know if thats changed))
Any idea how I can tune my googledoc spreadsheet to include the additional metrics?
Thanks

RE: How to structure your site correctly for optimal juice flow?
I'll go with the idea that less is more.
Less links on a page means more juice to distribute.

How to structure your site correctly for optimal juice flow?
Hello fellow mozzers.
I have a question regarding structuring a site for optimal link juice flow.
If you have an existing website that has for instance a contact page, we know its pointless for that page to have any juice at all. In a hypothetical scenario would it be ok to no index, no follow that page?
What happens to existing pagerank on such a page? for instance if you have a contact page with pr 4 and you no index, no follow it, I understand the pagerank will disappear from that page but will it be distributed to other pages on your site?
What would be the correct way of handling this scenario?

RE: I have evidence that product videos are hurting our rankings - How do I hide them!?
I would try a little experiment and try hosting a video on youtube and linking to it. I have seen videos on youtube in the past get a preference and it may work for you instead of self hosting.
Even if it's against your business model to use youtube, the experiment would be wonderful for the community to see if your listings would be affected with a self hosted or YT hosted video
