Ok, thanks. This is helpful. But I am still wondering if it wouldn't be better if the client only uses the .com domain and target with this domain also in the UK.
In this way you only have to build authority on the .com domain instead of on two domains?

Or does Google sent the authority build on the .com domain trough to the .co.uk domain with these codes?

I agree it is better to have the subdirectory.

But what if the webshop is not actually hosted on the same server as where the website is running.
When you have shop.domain.com you can virtually host the webshop on shop.domain.com with an DNS forward.
But it is not possible with domain.com/shop or is it?

A new client of mine has an .com and an .co.uk domain. Both the same content (and they don't have the capacity to make specific content on both domains).

I am thinking building al domain authority to 1 domain. In this case the .com domain. 
And forward the .co.uk to this .com domain.
In this way, the .com will rank in both UK as in other English speaking countries, right? Or not?
Or should I use the  rel="alternate" hreflang="x" tag?

I am not sure. But I do know big brands rank high in the Netherlands with .com domains (for example booking.com).

What if you have a blog and you want to add a shop to your site (like http://blog.com/shop) to profit from the domain autority, but... the shop uses a specific technique that needs to be hosted on an other server?

I know a solution when I locate the shop at http://shop.blog.com by changing the DNS settings, but in this case the shop will not profit from the domain autoriry.

So,.. is there a technique (maybe also with DNS?) to host the shop on a different location, but for search engines and visitors it looks like it is on the same server?

I hope somebody knows a solution...

I found out that in opensiteexplorer.org our Facebook likes counts zero, while my facebook account actually counts more than 600 likes. How is this possible? Did I not couple my facebook account correctly to my website? The address is http://www.onlinefietsonderdelenkopen.nl and the Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/onlinefietsonderdelenkopen

I am pretty sure Google+ becomes more and more important. But here in the Netherlands nobody uses it, except SEO marketeers How is this in the USA @Christopher Glaeser? And Luke, in your country?

I really would like to know if someone tested the importance of Social Media for Google rankings.
Are there some sites who build authority only by doing good social media? 
Ofcourse, I know it is all about the mix (content, linkbuilding, social media, etc.) but how important is it?  
I know many sites who rank good without any form of social media, but I do not know any sites who do only social media and rank high.

I hope there are some good cases which give good insight.

The job is done (for a while now) and the results are even better than hoped for.
In the beginning, there was a little (very little) drop, but within two weeks they climed up.

Now we have doubled the organic visitors!

So, it turned out great

Does anybody know if Search volume insight in Bing is more accurate than it is in Google?
Moz is showing Search Volume insight in Bing now (not sure about the reason, probably Moz has no access to Google? Or is it because it is more accurate?)
For some words I have my doubts about the Google Keyword Tool. I don't know about Bing.
For the first time I compare two words on Bing with Google I found out the ratio in Bing is very different compared with Google.

Example:
When you check out the words: espressomachine and koffiemachine
**Google, local search in the Netherlands: **
espressomachine: 6600
koffiemachine: 8100
Bing, local search in the Netherlands:
espressomachine: 549
koffiemachine: 361

So..., are Bing users typical kind of users who uses other search phrases?
Or... is one of these two more accurate?

A client of main has a specific domain for their webshop, separately from the brand the domain. The brand domain has much more authority (according to SEOMoz), so the conclusion in an other topic was that it would be better to move the entire webshop to the same domain as the branddomain.

Like moving www.webshopdomain.com to www.branddomain.com/webshop

Of course all categories and important pages will have a 301 to give through the build up authority.

Does anybody have experience with this? I believe in the end this will be much better because all authority will be build up at the same domain.
But I am afraid of a drop in the beginning. If there will be a sales drop, I really must give my client notice of this...

I hope somebody has done this before..

Will there be a big drop in sales first?

Because I have to warn the company about the risk and expectations...

I have never deleted bad links for any client (because I never noticed a drop because of bad links). Do you have experienced this? Google Webmasters Tools never gave a client of mine a notice/warning. Is it still possible there are bad links?

So, not to redirect the entire domain at ones, but redirect every category and maybe also some important productpages. Right?

I also do not kwow why there are 2 domains. This is also the reason why I want to change this...

A client of mine has a brand with a website for over 10 years now.
About 4 years ago the have opened a webshop on an other domain (like www.brandnamewebshop.com).

At this moment the brand domain has a seomoz authority of 45.
The webshop domain authority is 25.

The question:
Would it not be better to transfer the webshop to the brand domain because of the domain authority?

If so, how can this be done the best way? With a 301?
I also think: what a loss of energy of building the authority on the other domain.
Is it an idea to use both domains for a webshop and rewrite the content? Or is there an other way to still make use of the built up domain authority? Would it really help the other domain when I make a 301 redirect (and make use of the pointing links to the webshop domain?).

I hope somebody have some experience with this...
